I will say, if this is in fact true, many have the same sentiment and have not acted. "Mass" (in quotations because they are getting arrested as quickly as they can) protests are popping up all over Russia. If this drags out does Putin seriously risk a coup attempt? Scary thought for a country with so many nukes.

The heroism of the protestors is admirable knowing they are all going to get arrested.

The funny thing about Trump calling it Savvy or whatever... He isn't wrong from a war fighting prospective. It is tactless and ass clownery for him to say it, but strategically, unfortunately, he isn't wrong.

Love that you don't even know how crippling a cyber attack could be. This could be a great step by our country in helping Ukraine...

Our cyber security expert that doesn’t even know how to quote a reply properly. 🤣

After vetoing and filibustering tough sanctions for months, Biden is still pushing a weak-ass response. I hope we have some people on the ground helping point the good stuff at the bastards. Not sure why Biden wouldn't answer- why won't he sanction Putin? Even the stinkin' journo asked what Putin must do to get a sanction.

This is a joke. Also reassuring he didn't know if Putin would invoke a nuclear war.

4 years of Trump:
- Invested in military equipment like never before
- Brokered peace in Middle East
- 1st in 20 years not to start war
- Kept Xi/Putin/Kim in check

1 year of Biden/Harris:
- Discharged soldiers for not getting an experimental shot that ended up not doing anything anyway
- Got a dozen soldiers killed
- Stranded 100s of Americans with terrorists
- Left $85,000,000,000 of military equipment with terrorists
- Deemphasized physicals training in military and replaced with studying "isms"
- Has us on the brink of WWIII

Yeah - your "heart goes out to Ukraine..." but did your vote?

The rest of the world has been consistent that the invasion wasn't happening. It's only the dream team in DC that keeps saying otherwise.

This is a pure lie to set up a press conference to claim they deterred Russia and ended Covid.

The fact that Kyiv has shelves stocked better than Indiana and the complete normalcy there, tells me that nobody thought it was going to happen. My Russian neighbors who lived in Soviet Ukraine for 40 ish years told me nobody they know over there thinks anything will happen and the Russian news they watch is all about Biden's family and corruption. I think this is like mask science, a response to the polls and an election strategy.

Here's a Russian Embassy Twitter account mocking Biden's Feb 16th invasion account. Hard to believe this State Department would be wrong on anything.

This thread is going to get hot. And given that it's a geopolitical event there are certain to be political opinions. Just try to be as respectful to others as possible. If people can't, we'll give short "timeouts" from posting in the thread to cool off.
Yeah, dude, if it's cool I'm just going to take my left wing warped world view back to the sports stuff. Stick to sports, they say.

I despised Trump but gave credit where it was due.

I despise Biden and I give credit when it is due. So far, his response to this has been weak and he looks absolutely lost when trying to answer questions after his speech. I thought they'd at least go after Russia's SWIFT status or do something truly monumental for such a monumental invasion of a sovereign country.

I believe the big hang up is that Germany and Italy don't want to touch Russia's SWIFT status.

This is the problem with Trump, even if what he says is factually accurate, it's dumbAF to put it out there and let it be dissected.

It's like watching Hitler use gas chambers on the Jews and tweeting, "Man, that is a brilliant strategy to end life enmasse. I mean, I don't support it but really, really smart use of resources."

It's just beyond dumb to give superlatives to someone who is threatening World War III but it's also not surprising after watching him threaten nuclear retaliation over twitter.

No doubt but at some point, you gotta say fuck em. We're going to put pressure on you to get this done. He shoudl call out the countries by name if needed or at least threaten in the discussions.

I mean, I really expected us to drop a fucking hammer since we can't intervene militarily. Instead we're freezing some assets and putting in measures that may prove effective 18 months from now (microprocessors, etc).

What war related move did you not agree with Trump on? Because the results sure were peaceful.

Good news is that we know that Biden will be monitoring the effect of the sanctions and should know more in a month or so.

From what I've read, the announced sanctions were pretty much along the lines of what Biden previously alluded to. So Putin knew what the sanctions would be before invading. He made a calculated choice, he knew the "consequences" and he just gave Biden the middle finger. Now that the sanctions are announced, it would seem that they will not likely have any impact in the immediate future, if ever.

Oh about 97% of my problem with Pres. Trump. A lot of his policies/things ect (same as Obama/Clinton/Bush/Regan et al) were really smart/savvy if you will. He is just such a DBAG about it. Like I said, I don't agree with what he said and think he should keep his yap shut, but from a strictly warfighting prospective. He's right

C'mon man. His post doesn't mention any disagreements with Trump, just a critique of his Twitter commentary.

Quite fishing for a Trump/Biden debate. Take it to another thread if you have to have one.

Id say ending SWIFT is the "nuclear option" of nonmilitary options.

Russia's GDP shrunk by a quarter in the wake of the Crimea sanctions. Today the MOEX lost 14% of its value and the central bank is liquidating a significant percentage of its assets.

I suspect the real motive here is desperation. The downside of a regime lasting decades is that they can't disown the actions that led to this nexus and all their problems look like nails because all they have is a hammer.

EDIT: Oh, and Russia's population shrank by just a hair under a million people last year. The domestic issues there are probably placing an incredible strain on the government.

Wait to see what the gas prices are going to be now

Why the heck did Biden cut off our energy independence on his first day? This is going to be a heck of a ride.

China is going to infiltrate Taiwan next. Book it

And the USA won't do a damn thing

I read the other day Putin knew sanctions were coming and pulled back a lot of money in anticipation, so the effects of a sanction(s) won't be felt for a long time.

A cyber attack against Russia could be devastating if done correctly. They could shutdown all types of communications leaving the military and government people clueless on what to do next. You could also shutdown the banking systems for several days if not longer. You're basically freezing everyone's ability to act. Russian citizens would not be happy about that.

From what I've read, I wouldn't count on it. They've been flying planes in Taiwan airspace for a while. China's interest in Taiwan is the chip fabs., but Taiwan's military is pretty beefy and they are prepared to keep the fabs out of the control of China.

I'm just glad Drayer is ok, I figured since his neighbors were clearly Russian plants spreading disinformation they would have to eliminate him for outing them.
