They're not, they're in no way comparing Badgers to ND or Graham to Mertz.

They just had higher expectations of ND, or perception of ND, than ND fans do.

The point, that you keep missing, is that they should have no room to talk while Coan performed at a Top 30 level, as I told you yesterday. You and "Bucky" can go complain about Notre Dame together next season, your schtick is getting old.

You do not need to be upset that I watch many ND games, including the Bucky game, with my Badger friends and they constantly made jokes about Coan being ND's QB.

I promise you, you don't need to be triggered by what my friends say.

Coan finished 27th in QBR, and 17th when considering only the passing component with low-leverage (i.e. easy or meaningless) passes excluded which is how ESPN does it.

Mertz was 76th, and not even rated in the top 125 when considering the passing component. Truly one of the worst QBs in college football.

Is what it is, Coan was far from perfect and severely hindered ND at times, but I was very impressed by his "unshackled" performance in the Fiesta Bowl which makes me optimistic about Tommy Rees. Kelly was clearly holding the team back on the side of the ball, which is no surprise to anyone who has followed ND under his leadership. He was carried by the defense virtually every year except 2015.

I know it's like 3-4 vocal people, but am I getting this straight...is the latest "I hate Tommy" movement because Driskell or some other talking head thinks we can't land this Dante Moore? Is that where all this is coming from? If so, ya'll can be some serious drama llamas over recruiting sometimes, I swear. The kid is a Top 10 recruit, our chances of landing him are slim regardless of who is OC. Pretty sure this is why I dialed back my involvement in recruiting for the last 5 years, the whole game is bonkers.

Yep. Kelly's philosophy was to play defense, and minimize mistakes (turnovers and penalties) which typically improves your odds of winning. I go back to the Wiscy game with the KO return for a TD. After the game he said they normally don't call a return to the far side of the field as it increases the chances of a penalty, but Polian convinced him to change it up and the rest is history. Kelly might have been the reason why we didn't throw deep very often and why you saw Coan open it up in the Fiesta Bowl.

No. It's because 3 of the last 4 QBs he's landed include:
  • Brendan Clark
  • Drew Pyne
  • Steve Angeli
And the jury is still out on our only hope of an elite QB on the current roster...

There's certainly been a concentrated movement in this thread the last week though, so something spurred on the discussion. Early signing period was over a month ago.

Was more Arnold/Vizzina than anything with Moore.

Yep. It’s possible to even like Rees’ play calling and development of QBs and also think our QB recruiting has been subpar.

Yep. I think Arnold committing to OU and Vizzina supposedly favoring Clemson is what spurred it on.

Also, the Irish Illustrated podcast kind of shit on QB recruiting which contributed.
