Harbaugh has to hate going to family events only to hear how great his brother has been, and everything he’s accomplished. I would imagine he feels like he has a lot to prove on the NFL level. Still think his brother is the better coach.

Eliano potentially is a better coach but Coombs is a recruiting loss for them.

I'd love for ND to hire Coombs as an analyst and replacement for Kerry Cooks role.

Kerry Coombs on our sidelines and recruiting for ND would be amazing. His passion for the game is so strong. I'm shocked he's out at OSU.

Analysts can't recruit.

Analysts can't recruit.

It's considerably odd how I've heard this maybe one other time than your post... yet that's all analysts do is analyze players - everyday..... and they analyze them from Frosh in HS to College to possibly the NFL.....

Coombs is a potentially interesting case looking at Elston thinking about it now. Coombs was beloved as the OSU CBs or DB coach whatever title he was and gets the DC job eventually upon return. Dude was flat at awful from the drop as a coordinator. Stubborn and trusted his previous position group way too much. Now spoils is ending at OSU somewhat and you got Fansided writers not realizing how good he was. Hope Elston doesn’t reach a similar fate but some guys are just better position coaches than coordinators.

Yes.

He's wired like a frigging Neanderthal and lost his only Super Bowl appearance. To his brother.

The NIL and transfer portal could have him reassessing just how worth it being a college coach might be. He can get back into the League, go for that Super Bowl and his boy Vic Fangio can be his DC since the Broncos just fired him.

Does Elston join scUM if Harbaugh is headed to the NFL? This was all leverage IMO

I had the same thought when I saw the news about Elston today. Some coaches excel as position coaches, but just aren't cut out as coordinators or HCs. I guess you don't know until you try, and you'd kick yourself if you never took a chance at the big bucks...but the truth is some just aren't meant to be one or the other...or both.

Sure looks that way, but it could be that Harbaugh doesn't want to raise suspicions by leaving a position open. Would be a douche move if true, because Elston could find himself looking for a another job if scUM hires a new HC.

Fansided is like 2005 Bleacher Report. Opinion from a freshman at OSU probably haha.

Coombs is a fantastic position coach recruiter, particularly to OSU and potentially Cinci now. Just wasn’t a good coordinator at all.

Coombs, Mattison, Al Washington.

Snagging all the unemployed scraps from Ohio State's table seems like a winning prospect.

I don’t see where I suggested hiring Coombs. We already have Mickens and Mason so that doesn’t make sense. Kerry Coombs was a good CB coach, it’s not really a controversial take. Good points tho you could probably write at Fansided too

Nah, it would be a significant pay cut, but appreciate the vote of confidence. The Athletic was looking good until the NYT takeover. I'm looking forward to the many op eds coming on the Economic Anxiety of Ohio State fans.

You didn't suggest it, and I will make that clear here, but I'm seeing his name come up in this thread and others. Buying low on a bunch of guys who have all been let go by Ohio State would seem to me like the wrong direction for this program to go if they intend on winning a championship. Al Washington just got let go from ND and people want to hire him to replace the guy we can't possibly replace? Seems odd.

From what I have gathered among Ohio State fans out there, in addition to the horrible link I provided from this wretched place called Fansided, is that they were ready for Coombs to go and appreciate his time with the program. I'm sure losing to Michigan for the first time in thirty years has Ohio State fans ready for some change. They've been through so much, having endured a two loss season and all.

Anyway, sorry for the misunderstanding. I doubt we see Mattison fleshy manboobs on ND's sideline or anywhere else. Cheers.

I would think that the DC hire is going to come before the DL hire at this point, right? It is a bargaining chip to a potential DC hire. You can pick your DL coach but Freeman can veto it.

If it is Belk I would think he brings Early.

You'd assume.

They knew they needed a DC before they knew they needed a DL coach.

Belk and Early would be fantastic. Sign me up.

Texas expected to hire Gary Patterson as D analyst. Wonder if he was ever considered for any of the D positions at ND.

Todd Graham resigned at Hawaii after two seasons. Once his son entered the portal, you could guess he would not be staying. Is it mistreatment or just a different generation of player?

https://www.espn.com/college-footbal...eating-players

The guy is a complete jerk. His wife is a piece of work, too. The things he was being accused of doing and saying were very specific. It wasn't just general accusations that could be misinterpreted. In most other professions, he either gets fired or sent off to some kind of side project at best.

Comparing Hawaii to a third world country because they didn't have Dr. Pepper in vending machines is incendiary.

He had to go in front of the state legislature and answer questions about how toxic and dysfunctional his program has become. Nobody needs that kind of drama.

Making that comment isn't the brightest idea and not a way to endear yourself to the Hawaiians, but is it a fireable offense. Also he is a state employee so guessing that is why the state legislature is involved because they would be liable.

One of the players who was interviewed that had quit the program main problem was Graham didn't even know his name. Isn't that what players said about Brian Kelly a few years back? I don't know or have followed Graham's career, but what they are publishing seems to be making a lot about nothing. If there is more, please let me know. Having a coach tell a player he is worthless is pretty much what most have experienced at some point playing a sport.
