Your numbers are off a little though because you just assumed straight distribution and counted it all from TV. From the first article the average team received a $32.3 million distribution with Clemson leading at $37. Notre Dame got a distribution of $10.8 to add to their own independent TV revenue. ACC TV revenue alone was $332 million split between 14 schools or $23 million a piece assuming none of Notre Dame's split came from that pile. Maybe I'm missing something?

According to this article from Forbes Notre Dame averaged $120 million per year in football revenue (8th overall), which was $24 million higher than the closest ACC counterpart Florida State.

My girls are pretty ethnically ambiguous,… we laugh all the time when people have no clue what they are racially. The whole family is sitting here saying, wow if you guys had a son he’d totally be Dave Aranda… lol yup

It's a bit different than that. If you add in ND to the ACC plus another team to even the divisions, the money goes up. And the numbers I'm talking about are not based on Total revenue - it's based on whether or not being in a conference which was what the original topic was about getting into the BCS Playoffs. I'm not including the Forbes numbers based on revenues from merchandise point of view. Not that I'm disagreeing with you in the total $ amount. I agree there is big money but, a tremendous amount of that revenue comes from other sources.

Your point is well taken though.

My dream finish:

Georgia, Iowa, Baylor, Cincinnati all win today.

1. Georgia
2. Cincinnati
3. Notre Dame
4. Baylor

I said this was my dream, screw Ohio State.

Baylor vs Notre Dame in the championship

Alabama would probably be #4 in this scenario.

Agree - would be the first 10-2.... now, if the committee puts the Irish 4th just to not have GA/bama play again back-to-back... there's the issue to discuss.

Perception matters. When the best win on the schedule is an 8-4 Wisky then we will likely be hampered by our schedule. For a playoff caliber team, what difference is there in beating VTech or Stanford vs beating Tulane or UCF? It appears not much.

Even in a chaotic year of upsets, in a conferece there will inevitably be teams which accumulate good records and thus thought of as being "good". A conference ensures you have at least a couple of those potential wins on the schedule every year. Whereas ND is at the mercy of a schedule crafted 5-10 years ahead of time.

I agree - it also matters when you have a team that is ranked early in the year, then falls because of losses - it becomes not such a 'signature/great' win... well..... duh, your team just game them one of the losses that created a drop in the rankings. Plus, you don't schedule FCS teams..... good point.

Use that logic for Alabama.

What difference is there in beating VTech or Stanford vs. beating LSU or Auburn?

The reality is that the SEC is down this year. Georgia is the one team that stands out as a cut above the rest, but Bama isn't their vintage selves this year and Ole Miss looks fine, but the rest of the conference is pretty darn average to downright awful.

Bama has a good win over Ole Miss, but then their next best win is escaping against 8-4 Arkansas and then what? 7-5 Miami or Tennessee?

So yeah, their best win is better than ND's. But they also have a loss to 8-4 Texas A&M who was using their backup QB. They've also struggled to edge out the likes of 6-6 LSU and Auburn. Now you can say that ND has struggled to beat teams like FSU and Toledo, but those were back in September. ND has been hitting their stride and killing opponents, in spite of missing several key players to injury.

Alabama's struggles with bad teams is as recent as last week. That perception matters, because how the team is looking like going right into the end of the regular season plays a crucial part. A close win against a bad team in September matters a lot less than a close win in late November.

If these scores hold its:
1. Bama
2/3. Michigan/Georgia
4. Cinci

5. ND
6. Ohio State
7. Baylor
8. Ole Miss
9. Michigan State
10. Oklahoma State
11. BYU
12. Utah

Not 100% sure on 6 through 10. But likely this would mean ND vs Michigan State or Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl.

God I hope Michigan wins.... any of US nutjobs wants the Irish in the mix of the top 4 is crazy.... enthusiasm and hope won't get the Irish through the first game of the playoffs

It's a strange thing, but I grew up in an era when we wanted to be the unrealistic underdogs.
Really understand the power of that, especially with a HC like MF.
I hope we get in.
(and scUM being our entrance ticket would be especially sweet)

Really gonna have to watch a CFP with Bama, Georgia and Mich in it…… Well I won’t watch it but still be annoyed by whoever wins it unless Cincy somehow pulls the miracle.

We just saw Bama basically lose to Auburn last week. Why wouldn’t we want to be in this playoff?

Uh.... because bama just scored again and... I would rather see Freeman win a NY6 bowl game than get boat-raced in the playoffs in his first game... that's why.

This is ideal, as far as NY6 goes. I wonder if Walker opts out too

I’ll say it again… we just saw Bama get taken to 4-OT by Auburn (who stinks and should’ve won in regulation) LAST WEEK. Why wouldn’t we want a shot at them? If you are waiting for the year where ND is the clear #1 team from a talent perspective then you will be waiting a lifetime my friend.

Their best player didn’t play most of the game and Jordan Hare is a weird place

Oh okay, Jordan Hare is wEiRd so let’s just give up and not even hope to play them in a down year. What a defeatist attitude.

I never said I wouldn’t want to be in this Playoff just because of Alabama’s talent, but you’re also mischaracterizing Alabama here

Brother - it's reality ..... I love thee Irish... but Bama or GA would be a clear fav.... I would be very happy with a damn good bowl win and start next year with Freeman... no offense and not mad at ya man... seriously... I'm just as frustrated.. but it is what it is.

There is only upside in the playoff and only downside outside of the playoff for ND. If we get matched up vs Bama or UGA the narrative will not change if we lose, but if we win it will move the program forward significantly and we may potentially back our way into a title shot.

Now if we lose to MSU in some NY6 bowl? That’s a bad look because we are supposed to win that.

I really don’t see how you guys wouldn’t want in this playoff when there’s only upside and we’d be playing against teams significantly worse than the playoff teams we’ve played in past years.
