This whole southern accent thing is kind of silly. I had to listen to his speech 3 times to figure out where the accent took place. It was one word. I think he tripped over himself as he dealt with the echo of the stadium. You would think if he was really gunning for the southern accent thing it would've been a lot more prevalent.

Don't get me wrong, I kind of think it's funny that the viral video is making him look bad. LOL

You're wrong, but besides there will be no reasoning in this thread. All so called reasoning for BK can be done in the revisited thread. In here he gets the smoke.

In my mind, I feel like LSU was butt hurt over losing Freeman to us and them getting Kelly was them thinking they were sticking it to us....

Sure but at the end of the day, BK is either going to win or lose. LSU gave him a 90-100% fully guaranteed contract based on how he's fired. So they really stuck it to us if he flames out after yr 3 or 4 and they're stuck paying 60 million dollars plus a new coach

Hard to imagine they'd drop that kind of coin on a petty grievance. Seems like LSU identified Riley and Kelly as two successful coaches they could potentially poach by offering an absurd amount of money. They thought they had Riley sewn up, but got outbid by USC at the 11th hour. Kelly was their back-up plan, and he jumped at the offer. Simple as.

Maybe there can be a Kelly sympathizers/deniers thread somewhere. This is not that thread.

So before it went viral a few days ago when it was originally released, I watched it on YouTube. I heard the slight drawl so I wanted to see how LSU fans perceived it. I looked at the comments & it didn’t take long for an LSU fan to notice “Wait did I detect a slight Louisiana twang from the Irish guy from Boston?? LOL. Go LSU”. All the LSU fans responding to it were hyped…go read for yourself on YouTube. Whatever he was selling, they were buying. Remember FAN is short for FANATIC.

That’s not true at all. Literally the entire speech sounds like a high school kid reading lines as Rhett Butler in Gone with the Wind for the first time.

I understand we’re piling on, and it’s hella fun, but that sounds nothing like I’ve heard come out of his mouth over the last twelve years.

It’s legit terribly unauthentic. If you don’t think the people of the Grate state of Loosiahna don’t see through that, you are fooling yourself. That performance earned a Bless His Heart from my wife

My uncle is a native Hoosier who matriculated to Greenville, NC in the late 70s after college. He’s lived in Pitt County and worked at East Carolina ever since. He married a local Carolinian. He STILL mostly has a Midwest accent after all those years with just a hint of an eastern NC twang. You can absolutely tell my aunt was born and raised in the coastal Carolinas.

I’m not going to say I was offended by it, but I think if my aunt heard it she may feel a bit mocked. I wouldn’t go as far as to say it’s cultural appropriation, but I think you nailed it by calling it “unauthentic.”

SIAP but apparently BK was also interested in the Florida job but Napier was Florida's first choice.

My wife was born and lived in the city where the Confederacy was brought to life. I have lived in coastal Carolina’s for over 30 years and we both feel gross about that. Just greasy shit from him.

I vote that we no longer refer to him as coach Kelly or BK or whatever,… rather that he, from this day forth, be referred to as ‘the South Park shrimp guy’

Are we allowed to reference South Park in the woken age?

I can't deny enjoying City Wok with my son way too much.

My son in law plays basketball with a group of guys. One of them has a family member with a boy on the team. Apparently they were ecstatic about Kelly's departure when they got the news. Amazing the team performed so well if these stories about Kelly are true. I guess that's a testament to the coaching staff.

Of course he did. There's nothing unique about LSU. There are like a dozen different southern schools that offer the same level of commitment to football. If he wanted to leave for a football factory he was going to.

LSU fans will get used to it honestly.... hell, you heard Ed O talk.... hell, you could barely understand what he was saying most of the time!

LSU has a tough road draw next year. Under Kelly given how good ND has been at home I’d expect Death Valley becomes again an extremely difficult place to go to. So starting off with a tough road draw + Bama is a home game is a rocky start potential. Really just coordinators will tell the story.
