I asked this question a week or so ago. Lax answered by saying that analytics has them as a top 5 offense. But he doesn’t think they’re as good as Bama last year or LSU two years ago.

If we make the playoffs and play them…..not gonna be pretty. Very much shades of Bama in the title game or Clemson in 2018. I understand that it’s an accomplishment to get there but dammit I want to win a big bowl once in my lifetime. That would mean almost as much as a playoff game to me.

There are no big bowls any longer. The CFP system ruined that.

Some of that is Coan's own doing though. He has concrete blocks for cleats ... one of the most immobile QB's that I can ever recall. Plus, he seems to never just throw one away. Sometimes it makes sense to chuck one up in the 3rd row as opposed to muddle around back in the pocket and take that 8-10 yard sack!

He threw several away yesterday.

I’m going to read up from here but shame on you folks who said there was NO chance to the party.

Shame on what? There’s no shame for being cynical about an inept playoff system. This thread becomes an echo chamber of spirit fingers and breath holding without a dose of doubt. Not doubt in the Irish performing well. Doubt in a selection committee that has the likes of Tyrone Willingham.

I’m sad to say Buchner looked quite like the freshman in his time in the game sans one big run and opening up the running game overall. His passes did not look good and makes the calls for more TB muted. More TB in the red zone with read options etc and if Coan is really stalling out like his first half in the Cincy game. Our game plan against GA would need to be uptempo offense with quick hits and doses of Buchner. Our D would need to be like the GT game. Swarming and opportunistic.

Holy Schitt! Ty is on the committee?! Condalesa Rice turn down the gig? She knows more than he does. TG we got rid of him when we did. His winless season at UW proved our decision to can him before his 5 year contract ran out was warranted. Talk about no offense!

r/cfb has now entered the anger phase when considering ND might get in to the CFP. As if their favorite team would fare much better against Georgia/Bama/OSU. So much salt.

If Bama lost to Auburn next week, but won the SEC championship, I'd leave Bama out of the playoffs. You can make a reasonable case that they're still a top 4 team if they lose a close game to Georgia. You can't make that case at all if they lose to Auburn.

If Bama lost to Georgia twice, there is absolutely no reason they should get a 3rd shot at them.

Polls are out I know they don't matter but at least they've already factored in Michigan falling behind us when they lose to Ohio St

All bowl games will continue to lose prestige as the playoffs go on. It’ll be much better to say ND has made the playoffs X amount of times than saying they won some bowl game that’s unrecognizable since the naming sponsor has changed 3 times in the last 5 years.

Yall need to prepare yourselves for Bama beating UGA in the SEC CG and the playoff being OSU, UGA, Bama and Cinci.

Yup. This is my thought too.

I think Alabama is a lesser team than Georgia this year, but that three-way pact Saban has with the devil and Dion Sanders is legit.

Agree. Bama is 100% beating UGA. We need Cincinatti and Oklahoma State to lose.

I don't see Bama beating UGA. In fact, I think UGA will win handily. Bama isn't anything special, and when they lose we'll get in. And yes, I'm well-aware that UGA will crush us in the semi-final.

Bama lost too much experienced talent from last year, has had too many key injuries this year, neither coordinator is better than fair, and the team just hasn't gelled. Anything's possible, but I don't think Bama beats Georgia in the SECCG either.

The Stanford game needs to be another complete domination by ND. At least a 30 point win to satisfy the committee so they will ignore whatever happens in the Big 12. We also need GA to come thru and finally destroy or at least beat Bama. Still an outside chance that Cincy loses to Houston and Wisconsin can win the Big 10. Could you imagine? If these things happen we are 2 and probably playing Ok St or Ok.

My gut is that Georgia wins, and fairly easy. If its a close Alabama win then expect them both in.

If Alabama Wins:

1. OSU
2. Alabama
3. Georgia
4. Cincy/ND

If Alabama loses:

1. Georgia
2. OSU
3./4. Cincy/ND

Cincy could very well fall victim to the "on paper" or "better team now" arguement.

Handle our business with Stanford (Remember they KO'd Oregon) with style points, 49-0 sounds about right.

So you're saying Saban is losing it?

I don't think Bama would be in unless it's a ~34-31 all timer. You don't have two losses and you're last impression is one of those and make the playoffs IMO.

You gotta remember, Bama with 2 losses is #4. They're going to just rematch them right away? No way.
