Yeah this one stings bad. He’s going to be elite. It’s still going to be a great class by Styles could have made it an all-time class.

This kid isn’t a safety long term - definitely grows into an OLB. With our 2021 LB class + Drayk Bowen, this is probably a group we could afford a big miss. Corner and Safety would be a different story.

This could actually help ND with Nwankpa since Ohio St is logjammed at safety.

Huge loss. Didn’t see this coming, at least not now. He was just on campus with Bowen. Bummer.

I'm so angry right now.

I mean, good luck to him, but couldn't be more disappointed in his decision.

I really don't get it either. If Styles was a corner, then it'd make sense, but O$U's linebackers have been pretty average for a while now, while ND has done pretty well at developing them.

Average in what sense? Ohio State is consistently putting their starting/star linebackers into the league.

Since the 2016 draft, they've had six linebackers drafted no lower than 105th overall. Averaging one linebacker a year.
  • Darron Lee, 20th overall - 2016
  • Raekwon McMillan, 54th overall - 2017
  • Jerome Baker, 73rd overall - 2018
  • Malik Harrison, 98th overall - 2020
  • Pete Werner, 60th overall - 2021
  • Baron Browning, 105th overall - 2021
Since 2016, ND has had three linebackers drafted
  • Jaylon Smith, 34th overall - 2016
  • Drue Tranquill, 130th overall - 2019
  • JOK, 52nd overall - 2021
Yes, Lea developed Coney into a freaking stud but in terms of NFL Draft comparison, ND is developing NFL linebackers at half the rate as O$U

I'm bummed out by the news. I thought all the staffs tremendous work and effort in Sonny's recruiting would pay off in the end.

Good news is that its only Nov 2021 and early signing for 2023 recruiting class is more than 13 months away.

And we have also added some beastly linebackers in the 2022 class, all with some versatility and varying skill sets. They should be fun to watch in time.

After we lose Hamilton and Griffith, ND won't have a single Top 200 recruit in their entire Defensive Backfield next year. I have high hopes for Devin Moore but That is an issue.

Its just so early that I think there will still be some more twists and turns in this road.

The Styles’ just don’t strike me as wishy washy, I think they both made a commitment and that’s that. Hope I’m wrong n Sonny’s case

Just because Houston was a top 200 doesn't mean anything. He has not been a good player for this defense just a liability.

I think he is a bit overrated.

His football tape is hard to evaluate because he plays in such a small class in Ohio. He must make up for that in camps.

We can't win them all. And it's not over yet.

Pickerington Central is in the biggest division in Ohio. They played 1 team this year that was DII, which is the second biggest of 7 divisions, and that team is currently 11-2 and will be playing in the regional finals next weekend. The rest of their opponents were Division 1.

Really? I thought that I read differently, but you would know better than I would tbh. In the film I watched the team he played against looked little. As I said, I trust you on that one.

*Edit* They've got both classes AAA, AA, A and Divisions III, II, I ???

I do believe Ohio used the AAA, AA, A class system at one point but they've been using divisions as long as I can remember. Division I is the largest, and until maybe 10 years ago there were 6 divisions for football. They added a big school division for football at that point and there are 7 currently.

Edit: 1980 was the first year of divisions for Ohio.

His dads an OSU alum, he lives in Columbus, and he committed knowing that OSU is going to hire a new DC. I'd say a flip was possible... if he had committed to Notre Dame.

1. Was Lorenzo heavily recruited by OSU?

2. You'd have to think his brother has told him everything there is to know about ND.

3. Maybe the brothers aren't particularly close, and the idea of winning a title together is an idealized concept for fans.

There is also a chance Lorenzo transfers to OSU with the new rules. Haha.

I agree with you but it is not outside the realm of possibility that his brother continues to excel, Marcus Freeman seems more likely to not be moving on to a head coach job as quick, and maybe Suckeyes make a lack luster hire. Also I just refuse to be crushed by a recruit two cycles out. Too much can happen in a year. I mean i could have my years all off but Losing Justin Hilliard maybe caused the quick circle back to Tranquil or maybe it was Coney so in the three seasons from now when that matters, between maybe getting back in it for styles or someone else who performs at or near Sonny, it’s a greater than negligible chance that it works out fine. Also I think if freeman is the one recruiting the “instead of Sonny linebacker” that it will be a pretty impressive prospect.

Thanks for the clarification.

That being said, Sonny will make a fine DL some day.

Some kids want to go to a place where they can win big, party and get lots of tail.

And I can respect that.
