Chelsea have decided to attempt to sign Lionel Messi in addition to Romelu Lukaku, per
@diarioas
. Roman Abramovich wants to meet immediately with Messi’s entourage to discuss a deal.

I’ll never see Messi being able to play in the EPL at his age and the way he plays. Too physical.

Messi remains the best player in the world to this day. He'd be fine lol

Lol. Not arguing his greatness but the quality and depth of teams in the EPL is way more than any other league. He would get roughed up every game for 38 games. No one at his age wants that. Admittedly the last time I saw a full game of him in a RPL stadium was the 4-3 comeback against Liverpool

His stats against the PL in Europe are fantastic and he had 27 non-penalty goals in Laliga last season. He's an absolute cheat code. Maybe he'd be a little less effective in England than Spain but would still comfortably be the best player in the league imo. City have plenty of slight players who have no problem with the physicality. Well never know though, sadly.

Citah signs Grealish. PSG signs Messi. Chelsea signs Lukaku.

UEFA's three headed dragon is alive and well.

I read that Barca is trying to get FFP to stop the Messi to PSG move lol

FFP is the reason he has to leave in the first place. He wanted to stay there.

How FFP is allowing him to move to PSG I can't understand, other than FFP is bullshit.

Let's face it. IF FFP gets involved, it'll be in three years. IF PSG wins one Champions League title between now and then, they will consider it a win, regardless if FFP hits them hard.

I'm sad for Messi that he had to leave. But Barcelona being made an example of is good for the sport. For years they've spent absurd amounts of money on transfers and wages for their team.

Exactly. And even with City appearing to not be out of the woods yet with their situation either, these titles have already been won on the pitch. It really would not matter in the grand scheme of things punishing them going forward.

PSG headed down the same path. Their current spending level is completely unsustainable. Like a star swelling up into a red giant right before collapsing in on itself. Makes me grateful for how well-managed Bayern is.

Messi had to leave due to La Liga's salary cap (and the league determined to actually enforce it) and not because of FFP.

Barcas problem was that on top of their outrageous wages for Pique, Suarez, Messi, and other 1st teamers, they THEN go out ant and way overpay for Coutihno, Dembele and end up taking out a loan to purchase Greizman. I heard Griezmans weekly wages were absolute bonkers. To have shelle dout nearly $250 mil on Dembele and Coutihno only for them to be part timers and then go ham on Griezman was irresponsible to say the least.

Yeah, Griezman's salary per year is pushing 31 million euros, which is about 594,000 euros per week. Outrageous.

Correct. It wasn't UEFA FFP. It was basically League FFP which I did not specify.

This is right, but the irony is still there.

The real transfer news of the day is Josh Sargent to the Prem with Norwich City.

Hopefully he gets a lot of PT and plays well. Because thus far, he's been disappointing for the USMNT.

Hopefully they don't get relegated again otherwise he might be on the move again, though playing in the England Championship might not be a bad thing, but he couldn't stay with Bremen in Germany's second division. Does his development zero good.

The grind of the Championship is something totally different. Alas, let's see if Norwich can stay up this time around. Still time this summer for Cantwell to move, but I think he ends up staying.

To put this in perspective, PSG is paying Messi (arguably the GOAT) 35 million euros a year. Two years, option for a third.

They've made some good signings with their funds from selling Buendia. Rashica, Sargent, and Lees-Melou are all good signings for them and they got Billy Gilmour on loan. If Cantwell stays they won't be bland in the attack like many of these relegation fodder sides are. Their CBs seem to be the biggest area of concern, and it doesn't look like they've done anything to bolster that area yet. For Josh's sake, hope they stay up, but a Championship grind wouldn't be the worst thing for him either.

Some of these clubs need to look at Barca and Real as a cautionary tale. You could be one stupid transfer window and one bad season away from being in the same spot. They ran themselves like shit and now they're going to pay for it for who knows how long.

Liverpool have built a new training grown, done one stadium addition, have a second one planned, have signed Alexander Arnold, Allison and Fabinho to new contracts (guys already on the books who have actually won things) and are at least making some kind of effort to adhere to financial responsbility. LFC Twitter as a lot of plastics who have just started supporting the club in the last 3 years and don't realize this isn't PlayStation. I am fine with the way the club I support is running itself. I'm old enough to remember the two idiots that nearly ran the club into the ground, one of whom was doing it to two teams on two different continents. I'd rather not go back there again. Let Everton fuck themselves financially.

And in general, overall.

Yeah I read the Liverpool tweets and Im just like.... ffs your understanding of where money comes from and how its generated by an English football team is hilariously bad.

These same fans complain at ticket price increases, complain about the extent or quality of stadium renovations, complain about merchandizing prices etc... then have the BAAALLLLLLS to say FSG sucks becasue they wont pay $250 mil for Mbappe... JFC. Iguess the expectation is that Liverpool can just shit out a few hundie millions at need.

My favorite was that FSG reproted a net loss of like $50 mil or something due to COVID ( im not sure) and someone invested in LIverpool for like $500 mil and all the fans immediately went... GO FUCKING BUY MBAPPE!!!!!!

It's the video game. It has generated more plastic fans than anyone could have imagined.

FIFA Playstation is not real life. It shouldn't need to be said.
