wow, this gets easier. You do know the definition of racism, right?

You post yours, I will post mine.

"But TRUMMMMMMMMMMMMMPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!" The go-to response to everything for some. Some of you really are incapable of discussing anything without whining about Trump. Get over it. Move on. Post Trump Stress Disorder is making you all dull and boring to the rest of us. Learn to form a rational, original thought and carry on a conversation again without crying about The Don. Seriously.

He wasn't silent on China. He sought to silence others on China lol.

He's an idiot who is very good at basketball. He does some good charitable stuff as well.

The NBA did some really bizarre things too, if I remember correctly they lost their minds when some of the GM/Coaches/Owners spoke up about it. Can't remember but the hush around the league is/was a joke.

and therein, reminiscent of the 45th president. Go back and read what you wrote. and then let me know if it applies.

"there is nothing to him but his noise."

Who was that written about

the four time champion (but never bankrupt) Lebron James

Adolph Hitler

the 45th President?

"convinced he has the solution to every problem and can't stop himself from pontificating about it."

Wow. So that is what it means to be "hoist by his own petard." OUCH!

We're talking about LeBron James not Trump. "I know I was speeding officer, but the car that just passed me was going faster".

Yes it was. I think it was someone on the Rockets staff that got canned because he spoke out.

Sports owner's will never sit well with me, the pillaging of city coffers to fund their private business venture, ties to shady dealings (China/Russia/Oil barons), and just your general corruption/coverups.

Well, when Tom Brennan taught us logic, that was called "Hasty Generalization." And it still is.

I'll give you Chesapeake Energy and OKC and the Thunder, but the Queen of Hearts routine is mildly over the top. But that is just one FRACKtion of the ownership.

You're talking about good Catholic Boys like Rooney and Mara, and nice families like the Hunt family (with kin in silver trading, I concede)

And what, with precision, are the oil interests of Mark Cuban, Steve Ballmer, and Paul Allen?

Green Bay's Owner?
\
\The late Gerry Richardson?

And "Pillaging of city Coffers" Well, that is the textbook definition of "Straw Man"

I witnessed up close and personally in Las Vegas the pathetic sycophant pursuit of the Mark Davis' Raiders.

The pezzonovante of the casinos had no money to spare for education (for a long time Nevada was in a Cage Match with Mississippi for worst high schools) but were falling over each other (literally, Shellie Adelson got stepped over) to redirect public money to the Raiders.

Kindly distinguish in future posts between "pillager" and "pilagee." Quid vide the move of the Colts from Baltimore to Indianapolis. Go ahead, grab a clipboard and survery the natives,
with their Art Donovan jerseys and those Bomo accents. You might have fun. Let me know how it goes for you..

I yet await your definition of "racism." Nature abhors a vacuum, so if you do not post one I will offer one.

Let the record show that, as this is a thread about "Racism" (not Overrrrrreaction) it would seem optimal to posit our definitions, even if they differ.

Virginia’s education secretary, Atif Qarni, likened Asian-American kids taking test preparation to athletes taking illegal performance-enhancing drugs.

Oh the irony.

Oh the irony.

Rivera, for example, sent a message to fellow member Alexandra Oliver-Dávila saying she was “sick of westie whites.”

“Me too,” Ms. Oliver-Dávila replied. “I really feel like saying that.” Committee chairman Michael Loconto mocked the Asian names of some of those who commented.

I would also add in two factors as causes:

1) The growing influence of cable news on political discourse. Similar to social media, but putting on extremist goons on TV to say outlandish things and widely promote sensationalist stories for the sake of ratings.

2) The rise of identity politics. Every inequity is analyzed through a racial or demographic lens and this trend has permeated into the mainstream of the Dem party.

Identity politics? There's a reason I voted for Perot in '92 and again in '96. I had to convince one of my genius Libertarian workout buddies that Perot even RAN in '96. He was dazzled by the kind of information that is available on the internet.

The false dichotomy of left right (What a massive CROCK!!!!!!!)
us them
republican democrat
is made for TV and political consultants and the maggot media of either extreme.

And the sheeple? they love it, and night, bay into their corrals, following each other for their nightly news and websites.

But that's the trick about freedom in America.

You have a constitutional right to be stupid, intellectually lazy and gullible.

Most would rather die than think-or read.

This is pretty much Lebron in a nutshell.

Okay, let's stay with Lebron James.

This is a definition of an "idiot"

An idiot, in modern use, is a stupid or foolish person.

'Idiot' was formerly a technical term in legal and psychiatric contexts for some kinds of profound intellectual disability where the mental age is two years or less, and the person cannot guard themself against common physical dangers. The term was gradually replaced by 'profound mental retardation', which has since been replaced by other terms.[SUP][1][/SUP] Along with terms like moron, imbecile, and cretin, its use to describe people with mental disabilities is archaic and offensive.[SUP][2]

Is it your position that Lebron James is a person with profound intellectual disability.

Because, if, indeed Lebron James is an "idiot." he is one of the more overachieving "idiots" of all time.

to wit.'

His company, on the SIDE, Spring Hill, was recently in the sale market (the market thirsts for content and it is a "content" company for $750 million. that may be puffery, or as we have seen with Tesla, crypto and Game stop, a market simply bonkers.

Second, he accomplished this:

[url]https://ipromise.school/

IMG did its school to recruit future business inventory, and yes, I said INVENTORY.

Does Lebron have a profit expectation from I Promise school? If he does not, is it THAT that makes him an idiot?

Now, Lebron is an American citizen. He played with the Cavaliers from '03-'10. He then exercised an American privilege, changing employers. For that he was pilloried in a Goebbelsian propaganda campagin by a man named Dan Gilbert (check HIS background) orchestrating burning of jerseys and vandalism of images, and a HATE LETTER that Gilbert KEPT UP on [/URL]the Cavaliers website until Lebron returned. You may wish to review the text of Dan Gilbert's letter and whether or not it comports with whatever understanding you have of the freedom of Americans to change jobs and locations.[/SUP]
Lebron had a high school sweetheart with whom he fathered several children
They met in 1986
He proposed to her in 2011 and they were married in 2013 No divorces. NONE

James was a star and producer in the Space Jam Movie, which early returns indicate earned $264 million in receipts, three days in.

Now, based on these facts are you comfortable with your endorsement of the allegation that Lebron is "an idiot?"

These facts alone would be great. But if we’re still talking about the guy who used his platform to target an Ohio police officer purely based on his skin color and the skin color of the person he had to draw a firearm on and other regrettable moments, then yes, I think he’s an idiot who is good at playing ball.

So you judge him by one statement. Good grief, man, I hope you would not judge me by the 50 stupidest things I've ever said or done, even in recent years For my own part I am glad that the most important human ever said what he said in Matthew 12:7

"Let he among you who is without sin cast the first stone."

Wow, I hope you inflict the same rigorous standards on ALL americans, regardless of their skin color and based on how much their statements are objectively wrong.

Because if you do not apply the same standard then you lack fundamental fairness.

And remember this thread is about racism. I didn't start, I just wandered in.

Here is a definition:

prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against a person or people on the basis of their membership in a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized.

I asked that Bama guy several times for a definition and he would not provide one

And let me just ask you, so I can better limn your standard, if this statement was IDIOTIC, however you define it.

" In the name of the greatest people that have ever trod this earth, I draw the line in the dust and toss the gauntlet before the feet of tyranny, and I say segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever."

Because the parents of these four girls did think it was idiiotic-And RACIST

Addie Mae Collins
Carol Denise McNair
Carole Rosamon Robertson
Cynthia Dionne Wesley

Are you comfortable that you shine your searing light of :"idiocy" on ALL people of ALL colors, in ALL Walks of life with the same even handed justice?

By the way, the constitution protects the rights of all idiots to remain idiots, and all racists of ANY COLOR to be and remain racists.

It's constitutional and legal.

But doesn't make it any less idiotic or RACIST.

I Promise School is pretty cool, and we need more of them.

I am cynical by nature so when I see anyone worth 500 Million+ start a nonprofit that helps anything or anyone my first thought is how it helps them. Lebron has surrounded himself with some very smart people. I know people with less that do sort of the same things. They own businesses and do the non profit stuff as a huge tax loophole and marketing play to some extent. Sure they help people but would they be doing all of this without any sort of tax savings?

Lebron has shown he cares about his wallet. He refuses to "shut up and dribble" when it comes to causes he cares about. If those causes started costing him money he would probably "shut up and dribble" just like he told Darrel Morey. He essentially told Morey to "Shut up and dribble". His exact words. In regard to Morey "He was not educated on the subject and spoke"... "So many people could have been harmed, not only financially but physically, emotionally, spiritually".... "We need to be careful what tweet, say and do"... Lebron is very quick to blast Trump but when given the opportunity is quiet on China. Thats a great financial move but foolish if you indeed care about social justice. Lebron is sold out on China and sold out on the victim narrative in the United States because both are lucrative.

So, if I read you correctly, you are saying that Lebron acts in his financial self-interest, and picks and chooses his political traction points based on the likelihood that it will affect his net worth.
Fair enough. And I believe that your data is correct.

And yet, that distinguishes your articulated position from alleging that he is an "idiot."

Your allegation if I may attempt a paraphrase is that he is "slippery" or "duplicitous" If so, that is a far cry from an allegation of idiocy...
One would be racist one would not.

The China thing fascinates me. The company founded in Bentonville Arkansas is a particular case study, with between 70-80 percent of its merchandise made in China, while the clan Walton lives in a cone of silence about China. Similarly Apple, Nike and a host of others.

China is something of a pinata, of great interest to certain folks. It is worth examining where much of the negative rhetoric originates.

And in the United States, people come unglued about China, while turning the "blind eye" to Muhammed bin Salman's murder of a journalist working in America, and Recip Yayyip Erdogan's attempt to extradite Fethullah Gulen and what US person he chose to be Turkey';s henchman.

Thank you for saying you are "cynical by nature." For my own part I am "skeptical by nature." There are reasons.

My position is LeBron is a fraud and a hypocrit as well as not educated on topics he uses his platform to make comments about. We rag on Presidents for making comments because of the audience they have. But give people like LeBron a free pass for just simply being successful. He’s good at basketball. He’s made a lot of money putting a ball in a hole. He and his people have made good financial decisions that, at the end of the day, put more money in all their pockets... therefore you deem him unworthy of being an idiot. I never called him an idiot but I’ll just say he’s been smart enough to pay for smart people... because at the end of the day I’ve never really heard him say very smart things.

Just so I understand what we are talking about here, and him "not educated on topics he uses his platform to make comments about"

is this the kind of thing you are talking about?

.Harmful disinformation is being weaponized to block the voices and votes of Black Americans — but we have the power to stop it,” said the co-founders, Andre Banks and Ashley Bryant.“Through this partnership, Under Review will urgently flood the zone with the facts we need to counter the targeted attacks coming from bad actors at home and abroad.”

In a phone interview with The New York Times, Mr. James discussed the importance of voting, and how he sees his evolving role as both an athlete and a social activist. Mr. James, who as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers recently won his fourth N.B.A. championship, framed off-the-court activism as a key part of how he views his legacy.

These are edited excerpts from the conversation.

The latest push from More Than a Vote is about combating misinformation targeted at Black voters. Why was that something you all wanted to get involved with?

It’s simple. We believe that Black people, our community, we’ve been pushed away from our civic duty. We’ve been fed misinformation for many years.

And I’m in a position where I can educate people and, through More Than a Vote, educate people on how important this movement is, and how important their civic duty is. Not only to empower themselves, but to give back to their community as well.

It’s something that we’re very passionate about — that I’m very passionate about. I’m happy and honored that I can have these athletes and these influencers and the people that want to be engaged with me as well.

Each of More Than a Vote’s issues has been targeted at Black communities. Why is that racial lens important to your political involvement?

It’s authentic to who I am. I come from the Black community. I understand my Black people and what we go through on a day-to-day basis. I understand that we’ve not been given a lot of information along the course of time, and I understand how important our vote is.

I listen to my kids in my hometown of Akron, Ohio, I listen to my kids in my I Promise School, and one of the things that we always talk about is how we don’t get a lot of information, or we feel that we’re not appreciated, or we feel that our vote does not count.

So, you know, not only am I trying to to engage with my kids at an early age — third, fourth, fifth graders — but also the ones that also have the opportunity to vote now: the 18-year-olds, the 22-year-olds, the 25-year-olds, the 40-year-olds.

Because a lot of us just thought our vote doesn’t count: That’s what they’ve been taught, that’s how they’ve been educated, that how they’ve always felt. They’ve felt kind of institutionalized. But I want to give them the right information, I want them to know how important they can be.

Last election cycle, you campaigned for Hillary Clinton in Ohio. This time, you've focused more on issues rather than an individual candidate. Can you explain to me the thinking behind that shift?

I don’t want to say it’s a shift. It’s just what needed to be done at this point in time.

We’ve been talking about voter suppression, we’ve been talking about police brutality, systemic racism. We’ve had so many things going on, and voter suppression in our communities happens to be at the forefront. So that’s something we wanted to educate our people on.

What is most important to you come Election Day? Is it greater participation from Black voters? Is it the removal of President Trump, who I know you’ve had some back-and-forth with?

I define success by our people going out and voting.

You know, there’s so many stats out there, you can see it every time. Who didn’t vote? What counties didn’t vote? What communities didn’t vote? And a lot of that has had to do with our Black people. So, hopefully, we can get them out and educated and let them understand how important this moment is.

I don’t go back and forth with anybody. And I damn sure won’t go back and forth with that guy. But we want better, we want change in our community. We always talk about, “We want change,” and now we have the opportunity to do that.

The N.B.A. had a work stoppage this summer after the shooting of Jacob Blake. When you look back at that fraught moment for the league, a political one also, how do you think it handled it?

I think they handled it great. And the great thing is the partnership. The understanding — I don’t even want to just say understanding — them listening to us. They listened to the players.

Like I said, we want change. To be able to have action and to have change, that’s what is important to us.

This is not where you were at the beginning of your career, in terms of off-the-court activism. How did you transition from LeBron James the basketball player to embracing your role as a social leader?

We all have moments in our lives where we know who we are and we know what we’re about.

And it’s about growth. I’ve grown over the course of my career. I’ve grown over the course of being an 18-year-old kid that came into the league in 2003, to a 35-year-old man that’s a husband and a father of three kids.

I’ve grown to know who I am and what I stand for. And it’s not just about me, it’s about my people. That’s why I’m leading the charge.
Perhaps you find this objectionable. I do not.
And it may have to do with my kin, my progenitors and how they felt about immigrating to this country and their right to vote.

I definitely don't carry water for the WASP experts and partcularly not for someone from Mr. Jefferson's (aka Sally Hemmings boy toy) university.

I don't care how long Lebron continues to dribble.
But, just speaking for me and my mine, I hope he never shuts up, and instead increases using his voice.

and I hope he keeps going with the ipromise school. I assure you I have some involvement with not-for-profits and have seen what hypocrisy they can commit (tax fraud/grant fraud, executives stealing computers for their kids/accounting fraud)

But I think Lebron and his ipromise school, based on my diligence is different.

and I'm not expecting Tish James to shut it down anytime soon.

"Idiot" has been used as a pejorative term for as long as I can remember. It transcended from the medical field and into "pop culture" many, many years ago. To use it in its original medical meaning now doesn't fit the discussion and trying to get everyone to stop using it is a lost cause. As I said before, James has done some great things and we should be thankful for those, but to think that he should get a free pass because he's done these things is wrong. Like him or not, appreciate him or not, he has always had a huge ego and likes to feed it. Thus some "idiot" statements like crucifying the policeman saving a woman's life or his silent refusal to address China.

No, I used that one as an example. It's a good example because it's recent and demonstrates who he is. Nobody has ever argued he has done some good things for poor people and the black community with his money. I'm pointing to the broader picture for why I don't personally care for him and also don't believe him to be intelligent.

Stuhldreher, Hesburgh, Notre Dame, racism,.

Harry threw the potato:

Notre Dame students confronted the Ku Klux Klan in 1924
It was May 1924, and the Ku Klux Klan wanted to showcase its power and cement its sudden grip on Indiana politics by holding a picnic and parade in South Bend, the most Catholic area in the state.
About 500 University of Notre Dame students showed their objections by storming downtown and ripping the hoods and robes off surprised Klan members. As the Klan arrived in trains, buses and cars, the students roughed members up in alleys and stole their regalia for battle trophies. They chased the rest to the Klan headquarters downtown at the corner of Wayne and Michigan streets.
A “fiery cross” made from red light bulbs shined in the office’s third-floor window. By a stroke of luck, a store selling groceries on the ground floor had barrels of potatoes outside. The students began launching the potatoes, breaking the window and then all of the lights but the top one. Their arms ragged, no one seemed to be able to reach the last taunting bulb.
The crowd called forth Harry Stuhldreher, the football team quarterback who would be immortalized five months later as one of the Four Horsemen. He reared back and let loose a potato from his cannon of an arm. The crowd leaned in as it traced a perfect arc … and went wild when the light bulb exploded in a shower of sparks.

Then much later, Hesburgh threw so much truth at Nixon that Hesburgh got fired.

Hesburgh served as chairman of the U.S. Civil Rights Commission from 1969, when President Nixon appointed him to the leadership position, until 1972, when White House aides asked for Hesburgh's resignation. His dismissal from the commission in 1972 followed a series of disagreements between Hesburgh, the commission, and the Nixon administration about civil rights policies. Hesburgh objected to the president's slowdown policy on school desegregation, opposed Nixon's anti-busing policy, and advocated for the renewal of the Voting Rights Act, which the Nixon administration wanted to amend. Hesburgh publicly explained that he believed the primary reason for his dismissal was due to the commission's report on minority employment in government.[SUP].

Politicization of sports is great when you agree with it, I suppose. Ratings are down compared to pre-pandemic numbers, but up from the DNC sponsored mess last year.

ESPN has been comical lately, especially with the Rachel Nichols stuff. Even Stephen A Smith getting called out. You see them on TV calling out whatever social justice routine they want to trumpet but we later realize its just show.... like most of the social justice trumpeteers.

Now that is a remarkable bit of scientific method. Causal analysis, isolating the variable, the usual claptrap. Given your mastery of the area, can you explain the Causation of the decline in World Series viewership contained in the following article from Wikipedia?

I wait, with bated breath. Dazzle me with your acumen..

And, this just in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The NBA finals game ratings doesn't surprise me. You have a young superstar that most normally don't get to see because Milwaukee is rarely on a national broadcast. Add in the aging and popular Chris Paul trying to finally get a championship and there you have it. I could be wrong, but I think this was an anomaly rather than an indicator of things to come.

If the Yankees get to the WS, I would bet the ratings would jump considerably.

we each have our viewing choices, but both DATA and FACT based items IMPEACH, with extreme prejudice, the poster who ascribed TV ratings in sports to the DNC

I grew up baseball, and find it tedious, slow.

we each move on, in our own pace and time.

Change happens......
