I'm not there with ya Lion, on this one. At least not yet.
I was fairly critical of their handling of the QB recruiting so that's a known delta for me but I think we gotta give them some time here to get these guys on campus or for the ratings agencies to update their rankings.
I'll start with, I think it's a little misleading to say that is the best case scenario list. Merriweather's recruitment started as a top 2 of ND and Stanford. And he's coming on an OV in June so we'll see where it's at, at that time. I realize he's not talked about much but this is a young man that when his mother said he could take a trip (pre-covid) to a college campus, they chose ND in 2019. In February he gave an interview with Rivals about how he talks with Del daily. We continue to hear about Andre Greene's interest in ND. Nicholas Anderson is a 4 star WR from TX also coming on an OV. And Taylor Groves is a 4 star WR with interest in ND since his de-commitment from SCUM. Though he might want to play DB in college. So, the board at WR is a little more than what folks might realize. Plus, we'll still get a crack at all the top 3 RB's for OV's. Would it be the first time we made some surprise noise with OV's. Ring, ring, ring, Jordan Johnson is on line 1.
But, let's say none of that materializes, and we consider someone else's ratings like Jamie U (who gave out these ratings before some of them were commits). He has Angeli as a 92, Price 93, Williams 94, Raridon 90, and Staes a 91. That takes into account the services overrating Williams and underrating Price, pretty fair trade if you ask me.
Is that group elite? No. Is it in need of getting it's shit together? I don't think so. That language makes me think someone is close to getting fired and I don't see that at all. Heck, that group is probably in the top 10-12 nationally. If you add Merriweather or Greene then it's easily a top 10, probably better. A combo of Williams and Merriweather is probably top 5 WR combos in the country.
Lastly, I also think using that list for comparative analysis like above can be troublesome. I mean, Angeli is rated higher than Gobaira and Devin Moore the same as Donovan Hinish. That's the kind of stuff that makes the brain hurt, lol. I'd like to see more updates, film, and visits before I get too worked up.
