I love that we're at a point with our quality depth on the DL that we can actually rely on a schedule like this with kids like this now.

Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk

And we’re still getting guys that can compete right away. They’re doing a solid job of balancing the two. The DL depth is just unreal.

Are we hoping an Ade Ogendeji type career?

F Red shirt
S back up
J key back up
S co-starter
S starter/captain/10 sacks
I have higher expectations for Onye. hopefully something like this.

F Red shirt (Play in 4 games)
S rotational backup in the 2 deep
J Starter
S Starter
S NFL

I can appreciate the optimism but who’s he beating out as a Sophomore, in that scenario?

Theoretical depth chart could look something like this:

Vyper: (5th year) Ovie and (Junior) Botelho.
SDE: (5th year) Justin A and (Senior) Foskey
3T: (Senior) Cross and (Junior) Mills.

Then you’d have other guys in the mix for PT in certain packages like (Senior) Nana and (Junior) Ehrensberger. Gotta include his classmate Abiara as well. That seems like a tall task.

First of all, I agree (tall task), but I also think Onye might be more body-ready or prototypical at 6-5 and 245 than some. And he still has another year of HS. Just looking through NDI's depth chart (assuming it's close),

Defensive End
9 Daelin Hayes 6-4 270 Gr. - Gone
94 Isaiah Foskey 6-5 255 So.
29 Ovie Oghoufo 6-3 232 Jr. - 5th?
17 Jordan Botelho 6-3 248 Fr.
Defensive Tackle
95 M. Tagovailoa-Amosa 6-3 286 Sr. - Gone
57 Jayson Ademilola 6-3 279 Jr. - 5th?
56 Howard Cross III 6-1 265 So.
99 Rylie Mills 6-5 259 Fr.
Nose Guard
41 Kurt Hinish 6-2 296 Sr. - Gone
54 Jacob Lacey 6-2 293 So.
55 Ja'mion Franklin 6-1 310 Jr. - 5th?
? Aidan Keanaaina 6-3 303 Fr.
Defensive End
91 Adetokunbo Ogundeji 6-4 252 Gr.- Gone
19 Justin Ademilola 6-2 248 Jr.- 5th?
18 NaNa Osafo-Mensah 6-3 249 So.
47 Kofi Wardlow 6-2 240 Sr. - Gone
98 A. Ehrensberger 6-7 247 Fr.

Ovie still looks undersized (232) so to me he might end up being a package guy. I'm not sure where Bothelho ends up right now in terms of DE (already same size as Justin and NaNa). Ehrensberger is a huge wildcard to me. And depending on Onye's body after this year and next (let's say he puts on 15-30lbs in 2 years), he's right in the mix at 3T. I'm excited about Mills at his size, but Cross's lack of height still concerns me a bit.

In short, I think it's way too early to slot him (and other 2021 kids), or some of the current FR/19 and SO/20s. I do like the potential though.

Mmmmm... Pretty sure Hamilton signed with ND.

On the roster next year, guys that could leave as true juniors are:

Austin - has the talent and had he been a great side kick to Claypool, he might’ve had a shot.
Tyree, Johnson, Mayer
Tremble
Hamilton

Recent historically -
2020 Kmet
2019 Love
2018 St Brown
2017 Kizer
2016 Fuller, Smith
2014 Tuitt, Niklas
2011 Rudolph
2010 Clausen, Tate

MTA does have a 5th year available if he wants it in '21

I completely forgot about that, even though I was happy that they were able to preserve a year back in 2018 when he suffered that injury.

Damn 2021 DT depth is something else.

Sinclair posted a picture of Jason working out recently and he's getting jacked. He's not nearly as lean up top as I thought or he looked from tape.

If someone follows him on insta, they could probably grab it.

Great article from Sinclair, and thanks/reps LL.

Dude has indeed jacked up and put on some great weight. I guess the quarantine has been good to some! Loved that he mentioned that he, as well as Black and Coogan play vid games on-line with Spindler. Also liked his comments on Elston, and about Croft's love for ND.

This came up because I actually saw a different picture of him (Freeman posted at ISD but it won’t embed for some reason from my phone) with Rocco, JR (basketball) and Blake Wesley (basketball). Onye has gotta be a legit 6’5 and big while still looking like a baby. He’s going to be a monster at some point. We’ll see if he can put it all together.
