The Manuel love on Rivals is very strange. There's an article on SI.com where they call him the perfect prospect. I can understand why they like him as he has great physical tools but they seem to be a little overboard in their affection.

As for Gabbert ahead of Crist, that should be expected. Rivals, Scout, and ESPN all rank Gabbert ahead of Crist. He's clearly the consensus #2 QB at this point behind Pryor. And I'm not sure how relavent the whole date of offer thing is. They just might not have evaluated him fully yet. Notre Dame offered John Goodman and Martavious Odoms before Julio Jones. I don't think I'll draw any conclusions about the staff's opinion of those players from that.

ND never did officially offer J.Jones. Goodman was the 3rd WR offered thought, and I've been told it was a very split descion weather to offer Buckner or Goodman as the 2nd WR.

I am actually surprised that Manuel is even getting recruited at all. I mean, he goes to Bayside, everyone knows that Zack Morris is the starting QB at Bayside.

Actually Slater was the starting QB, Don't ask me how I know that LOL.

dang you kids these days. Knowing this stuff makes me feel old. I have seen maybe one full episope of that show what ever it was, and that was on reruns.

Slater played QB for football and wore #3, was on the basketball team, state champion wrestler that got a full ride to Iowa, and was on the track team. Zack just played basketball, and ran track, but he did go to hockey tryouts at college, and Slater wrestled at college. Where their dorm leader was non other than Bob Golic.

Dayne recently competed in the Edison Passing Tournament where he once again proved why so many top programs wanted him. He showed how he can make all of the throws and his great poise. He destroyed Beau Sweeny (Cal verbal) in a head to head battle in an opening game of the tournament. IMO Dayne will leave ND as the best QB to play there. He has every quality you need in a QB - Size, speed, arm, accuracy, poise, and most important leadership. After this season he will be a 5 star lock for sure. We already know he is, but Dayne deserves that recognition from the recruiting sites.

If Crist is that good how do you guys see the whole Clausen/Crist situation working out? I just get a little uneasy about the situation since generally, guys with this much talent don't really want to sit and watch another guy play. Barring any freak incident such as Clausen suffering a career ending injury how does Charlie handle having two five star Qbs on his roster with only one year seperating the two?


And just to add to my ramblings, how does Clausen's elbow factor into this? If he does in fact take a medical redshirt then essentially Jimmy and Dayne will be starting out with equal eligability.

The reason is because Crist will be sitting behind Clausen for 3 years getting groomed by Charlie and not being thrown to the dogs right away, and that is what will make him the best IMO. Clausen will most likely start for a while and then when he graduates Crist will take over, but since Crist will be a JR it will be an easier transition for him unlike Clausen's situation. Also, by then the weapons ND will have at WR will most likely all be 4 and 5 stars so the playmaking ability he will be throwing to will be amazing. Crist will certainly compete for the starting job right away, which is a good thing, but won't see any real action til' about his JR year.

If Jimmy ever gets hurt, guess what? We have an All American coming off the bench. It's what seperates USC from ND.........but not for much longer.

This is exactly what I was thinking. I don't want to compare the young guys to Palmer and Lienart but you gotta love the way things are shaping up. I think in the end Crist will get that fifth star and pulling into two top rated QB's in back to back years is just nuts.

Say clausen's elbow is ok to go for this season and then we redshirt crist. thats 6 years of all american quarter back

USC has been winning National Titles w/ this formula, when they graduate plug in another one, and I am very happy to see the Irish going in that direction

nd will get to the point were we just reload like usc,miami (in the past),texas, etc. some people say that you don't need a bunch of 5 star players to win. i very much disagree. to be the best you need the best talent,along with good coaching,example again usc.you can win 8-9 games a year with good players,but with great players you will always be in nc picture.
