in an article on 247....it sure sounds like HOLMES' dad played a very big part in keeping him at ND and understanding the role BK wanted for him but needed him to redshirt last year...he was kinda of pissed watching younger guys take his reps but it was part of BK's plan and his dad helped corey to see this and now is paying off

That was a great article. I think his dad redshirting at Syracuse and then doing great showed Cory it was okay to redshirt. The part of the article I found surprising was the decision to redshirt was made during fall camp prior to the start of the season. Has to be tough to practice hard everyday knowing you have no chance to see the field the entire year. Glad he turned it around and decided to make the most of it. Could have a breakout year in 2016.

From Loy @ 247:

Notre Dame receiver Corey Holmes speed translating to the field

Heading into the spring, most would have been slightly surprised to hear all the rave reviews about Notre Dame wide receiver Corey Holmes.

However, when head coach Brian Kelly talked about Holmes' and his 4.39 in the 40-yard dash, it caught a lot of people off guard.

Kelly spoke to the media recently and discussed Holmes' play this spring and why he could be in store for a big season with the Fighting Irish.

“There’s track speed and there’s in-line speed and then there’s, quite frankly, football speed,” said Kelly. “I think that’s been a struggle for Corey in the first couple of years is to get that to translate to playing fast and playing with confidence. I think he’s gaining that. He’s gaining the confidence, and we are seeing definitely a different football player. He’s not Will Fuller speed yet. Although he runs at the same speed, he is not playing at that speed yet. I think he is capable, but he is certainly not there yet. He is moving and trending in the right direction.”

Interesting. It seemed he was getting alot more involved towards the end of the year. I guess he feels the younger guys are gonna jump him next season.

Yeah. Especially against USC. But was hard to see him really breaking out with ESB and Stepherson in the mix.

I think a different poster had said that Holmes was on schedule to earn his degree early. Would that technically make him a graduate transfer with a year left and immediate eligibility. Rivals article confirmed.

We're gonna be a little thin at WR next year and very young assuming THjr leaves. I'm assuming it'll be ESB/Stepherson/CJ next year with a healthy disease of Claypool and Boykin. Not sure how this will all pan out. Hopefully someone really emerges. ESB should have another big year.

Best of luck to Corey Holmes-- I remember Kelly talking about him having a good spring, but then he fell off the map.

He's been retweeting friends on twitter and posting on his Instagram page a lot about Miami U. Would put a lot of money on it that's where he winds up transferring.

Kid could hypothetically get his Bachelors at Notre Dame and Masters at Miami in 5 years and not have to pay a dime.

Good way for CH to get a gig on the Weather Channel. Jim Cantore's getting too old for those hurricane assignments.

I thought he was coming along towards the end of the year. Dropped to many balls. Wish he would have stuck it out for one more year.

But only wish him the best going forward.

It's not a matter of his development. He has NFL aspirations and knows he has to go somewhere that he's going to get burn and preferably be THE guy. Per his own admission, he knows that's not happening at ND. Wish him best of luck.

The problem with his thinking is it doesn't really matter where you play. If you're not good enough to beat the starters on your team, being a starter on another team doesn't make you any better. Every year there are guys that light it up in college, but never make it to the NFL. If you can play, NFL scouts will find you.

That's the logic. Then there are guys like Dorsey Levens.

Buried on the ND Depth Chart behind backs like Watters, Bettis, Culver, Brooks, Johnson with Ismail at Flanker, and Rice and Mirer getting touches at QB, Levens took his injured knee to Georgia Tech. He set a record there for yds/carry, made All-ACC and was "found" by the NFL.

He played 11 seasons in the NFL rushed for around 5000 yds and scored over 50 TDs rushing and receiving.

I wanted Levens to stay at ND but with the other Brooks and Becton coming in touches would have stayed sparse for him at ND. Holmes didn't have anywhere near the competition at ND that Levens had to see the field. Levens averaged around 5 ypc at ND but there just weren't enough touches available with the talent that Vinny Cerrato brought in each year.
