Selling copyrighted material on the site seems like something to be frowned upon. Not to mention, against the law.

Yeah, gonna delete these in a sec. HBO also doesn't mess around with this kind of stuff.

Alternatively, as a paying HBO customer, does anyone know how I can get the final 3 episodes while in France?

Bro, you can buy and sell digital copy material anywhere. Check eBay. It's my personal ownership...like selling a dvd

Everyone that watches Game of Thrones either has HBO Go or HBO Now so they have access to all the episodes already.

Really? I guess I'm ignorant here. So that's different than, say, "copying" the digital copy?

Yeah if it's something like a unique code, you should be in the clear. My Xbox One came with a digital code for Gears of War and I sold it no problem.

Not so. eBay has distinct rules on this. As does US copyright law. HBO shows clearly post that their material may not be reproduced without written consent. I suggest Rizzo actually read their rules on this and make sure it fits the criteria. Simply pirating the show and giving it a unique code does not give people a free pass to sell their material.

Replicas, counterfeit items, and unauthorized copies policy

Regardless, I don't think it's fair to the mods to make them try to manage that.

What are you talking about? He didn't pirate or copy anything. Interestingly, that eBay policy says it depends on how he acquired the digital copy. If he purchased it himself, he can sell it. If he bought a physical copy that came with a digital code, he cannot sell that.

Allowed: Movies to which you own the rights
Not Allowed: Digital copy only discs or codes (originally sold as part of a Blu-ray or DVD combo package)

How did the code come to be then? They clearly not that the following is prohibited:

Digital copy only discs or codes (originally sold as part of a Blu-ray or DVD combo package)

Explain to me how he owns the rights to the materials? How did HBO transfer ownership? If all you needed to do was have a unique code, then what's the point of having a copyright to begin with?

I don't know how he bought it, he didn't share that detail with us.

But I can go on Amazon right now and buy a digital-only copy of Season 1 for $38.99.

Indeed you can. But you can't reproduce it, create additional copies and sell it. You can transfer ownership of your copy, but you can't simply make copies and start selling them on a football forum. He clearly noted that he could provide multiple copies. Unless he's purchasing the rights individually and selling them, but let's be real... That probably isn't the case.

Again... It's a grey area without specific details. Either way, I don't see how it's fair to make the owners of the site complicit in possible copyright infringement. Nor making the mods monitor that. If he wants to sell them, post it on a site with the functionality to weed out illegal material. Post it on eBay and post the link. Don't just tell people on the site to contact him for the purchase of digital copies.

These are my own personal movies with my own personal digital copy's. I have ownership.

1) I had no idea this was going to create a fire storm
2) The digital copy isn't pirated material. It's the movie/episodes that comes along with the purchase of Blu Ray / dvd
3) The most frequent sites / players are VUDU - Rent, buy & watch HD movies and TV shows on-demand and Disney movies anywhere.
4) Always have and always will have tons of respect for Lax
5). I have sold multiple on eBay because I 'own' the digital copy material. (Just do a simple search on eBay. There's tons for sale that eBay allows)
6) You can remove my original post if you like. I can sell on eBay. Just trying to help out I.E. Family.

The way I understand it, "Digital Copies" according to eBay refers to a digital copy that requires both a disc AND a code to unlock. Like, you have to put the DVD in the computer and then enter a code to get the digital version. This is generally not how digital copies work anymore, which leads me to believe that eBay needs to update/clarify their policy. Most digital copies now do not require the disc to access.

Selling a digital access code that does not also include a disc is cool. You bought an item (Blu-Ray/Digital combo pack), and are now selling part of that item (the digital half), as is your right since you purchased the code and own it.

Uhh... One post above you and the op. Get outta here with that shit.

No worries, Rizzo. It's always gonna be a weird situation with that stuff and I was just looking out for the site. I just don't think it should be their job to protect the site like that, and I know HBO don't play around when it comes to copyright infringement. It's also a topic that the site had an issue with in the past.

Again where did he "clearly note he could provide multiple copies"? He didnt. In the post right before mine, even though it was posted after you made that stupid claim, he's clearly talking about different digital copies. You think eBay would be cool with him selling copied pirated files lol.

Semantics. I am pretty sure that even Rizz would admit the offer for multiple people, which means multiple copies. If you're going to pick a fight for fights sake, then pick a better topic. He and I aren't even in an argument, you're the only one still talking about it. So beat it.

He didn't make an offer for multiple people. He said he has season 2 and season 3, meaning he'd be making a deal with two people at the most.

He never offered multiple people he was offering a copy of season 2 and 3. You're the one that accused him of illegally selling copyrighted material.

Edit: Wwiz beat me to it.

He just said that he has sold multiple copies on Amazon and you are both just being antagonist. He didn't claim to only have one copy either. I made the assumption that there were multiple copies, which his last comment stating he has sold multiple copies, pretty much confirms.

Either way, everything was cleared up and the issue is resolved. So there really isn't anything to see here. What exactly do you want from me?

If you have HBO you can stream it anywhere with the HBO Go App if you put on a tablet or mobile device. If you have comcast you can watch it on their app as well.

You think figuring out copyrights on DVD's is hard? Be glad you don't have to deal with Microsoft and their million different ways to license software. I've went through two different audits with them over the last 5 years.

I'll take, "What's was the only form of torture that was banned at Guantanamo Bay for being too cruel for $100, Alex".

I'd imagine working with Microsoft is a nightmare.

I work with copyright on academic materials of all types at my institution... there are "rules" about "Fair Use," but they have to be the loosest, most unclear guidelines of all time. There is always some loophole or different argument about copyright infringement/fair-use that makes something either okay or not okay, and generally it can become a fight that loops back into itself the opposite direction.

Generally, I've learned that every type of reproduction for any material in an academic setting is both okay and not okay*. There are fullproof arguments from both sides about every situation. It's so dumb.

*The only exception being "Blatant Plagiarism," which is also surprisingly defensible in a sad way
