Per PANDA via 247 in the 2017 Master thread

Deon Jackson-goes to Pace w/ Thomas...he is a 3 star running back that is coming up for the invasion...if he performs well expect an offer...basically would put us in the driver's seat-247--his parents are coming to invasion along w/ Thomas's parents

Kid has got some pop. Fluid tough runner with good speed. I would not be upset if he got an offer.

Runs with purpose with very little extra/un-needed movement. Reads blocks well. Reminds me a little of TF. Not too shabby on Defense as well.

I thought he looked pretty good in the videos that I've seen. He blew away the Duke staff in a private workout recently, ran a hand timed 4.37 40. Won the offensive top performer honors at the above mentioned Sound Mind Sound Body in Atlanta, and might be close to getting an offer from ND.

We told him that we're going to watch the tape from the event and he's hopeful it leads to an offer.

Scout: Deon Jackson gives Invasion high marks

Three-star athlete Deon Jackson has over 20 offers. After Irish Invasion, he explains why he hopes to soon add Notre Dame to that list.

Athlete Deon Jackson made the trip to Notre Dame last weekend for the Irish Invasion with highly touted teammates Andrew Thomas and Jamree Salyer. Both those offensive linemen already hold Irish offers. Will Jackson join that group? The versatile back might need to wait a bit longer to find out, but it seems he improved his odds on Saturday night.

“I liked it a lot,” Jackson said. “It was pretty good. I like walking around campus and receiving the tour. It was really nice.”

Pace worked out at running back at Irish Invasion in hopes of impressing Autry Denson and Brian Kelly.

“I had talked to coach Denson on the phone, but this was the first time in-person talking to him,” Jackson said. “I enjoyed him a lot. He’s a really good coach. He’s a pretty down to earth and knows a lot.”

The Atlanta (Ga.) Pace three-star prospect spent time with Kelly in the moments that followed the two-hour workout.

“After the workout, coach Kelly talked to me and my mom,” Jackson said. “He told me they were real close to offering. They wanted to go back and watch film from the camp first.

“They like that I can play both (running back and receiver) and that I have good hands and good routes out of the backfield and can line up in slot or whatnot. I actually started high school at wide receiver and moved to running back my junior year and did pretty well. But I have a wide receiver background, so I can bring a lot to the table. Basically the schools that are recruiting me hardest, I’m playing running back and slot. They say they want to get the ball in my hands as much as possible.”

Notre Dame’s academic pitch stood out most to the 5-foot-11, 206-pound athlete.

“One of my favorite parts was with my teammates when we received a presentation at the Mendoza School of Business,” Jackson said. “That was huge for me. They went over all the classes we would take. That was pretty big for me. Education is big in my decision.”

Duke, Louisville, Missouri, Oregon State, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin have offered Jackson.

“I can’t say yet if I have favorites,” Jackson said. “I need to take these last two visits this summer to Louisville and Missouri before I have a final list.”

Jackson listed Georgia and Florida as other schools that could be nearing pulling the trigger on an offer. Should Notre Dame offer, the Irish would be a top contender.

"Yeah, they would be up there definitely,” Jackson said. “I’m definitively going to take some more visits before I make a decision this fall.”

Pace is a fantastic school with inredible academics. One of the more elite schools in the ATL area. We did their technology in their new wings a few years ago. Very impressed with their commitment to both grades and sports. I'd be happy with just about any kid from their.

I think ND needs to offer this kid right now if they decide they want to take a 2nd RB or not. Sounds like Georgia is about too

Even with Toniel Carter, Cam Akers and DeAndre Swift on their board. Shows how good Jackson really is

I think with Holmes being a Theo Riddick type back why not just bring Jackson in as a pure RB? I think McIntosh is also in the Riddick mold and not a pure RB so just Tony Jones lately. Wouldn't hurt to bring Jackson in IMO

Question, as I remember him from over the summer, are they offering as a RB, WR, or S??

You remember correctly, he visited for Irish Invasion and showed well. Really like him as a prospect, good combination of size and speed. Might have the most NFL upside because of those two factors. A little more of a pro style RB, IMO, but what do I know.

Though I like the player, it seems odd to bring in another RB at this time. I don't see either Adams or Williams leaving early and we'll be at 5 RB's (6 if McIntosh moves back there) for next season. Either the staff knows something we don't or feel like he's a big time player. Also, we already have Stepp for next cycle. Plus in the mix for some other high quality RB's. Does this allow us to still go after Pledger? A lot of questions here, but like the player.

Can CJ play Safety? That'd be sweet.

Certainly could and some, UM, recruited him as such. However, he wanted RB and we recruited him as an RB. They are a good compliment but I'd be a little disappointed if we didn't give CJ a chance at RB. Can't pull the rug out from under the kid like that, he's on campus this week.

i would be PISSED as a fan and for cj....so BK better not or PANDFAN is coming off the top rope w/ the flying elbow

Like this kid a lot if he really has been able to get up to 200+ pounds while also increasing his speed. He still looks like he has room on his frame for another 20+ pounds. Great build and appears to be in line to become a tremendous do-it-all back.

If he wants to play RB let him play, but I'd like to see them (assuming they consider him a DB option) approach him and say 'you can play RB or DB here and we have no problem with that, but the depth at Safety is way thinner if you want to make an impact sooner'. He can choose what's best for him then.

And I think that's fair. Unless we move players currently on the roster, seems like we will with Elko changing some things, but since we haven't yet, the freshman S's are going to be taking a significant amount of reps in fall camp.

Anybody hear anything about tony jones during the season? As in how he was doing on the scout team?

The only thing I. Remember hearing is that Kelly said he was really impressed with him in Fall camp. He picked things up really well especially picking up the blitz and catching the ball out of the backfield.
