Herion Ready to Compete at Irish Invasion - Irish Sports Daily

2017 quarterback Tommy Herion got a surprise from Notre Dame when he opened his mail a few days ago. The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder hadn’t spoken to the Irish, but they extended an invite to Irish Invasion in June.
“It came as a surprise,” Herion told Irish Sports Daily. “I came home and had something in the mail. I opened it up and it was a poster invite to Irish Invasion. It was pretty cool to get invited. That was the first contact I have had with them so far.”
Herion knows a decent amount about Notre Dame already, as he lives about two hours away from South Bend and his good friend and teammate, John Shannon, is a 2016 Notre Dame signee.
Herion is in the process of getting on the recruiting radar, as he sat out essentially all of the 2015 season after transferring to Loyola Academy (Ill.)
“I went to Notre Dame College Prep for my freshman and sophomore year,” explained Herion. “It just wasn’t a good fit for me and I didn’t like the atmosphere there. I switched to Loyola Academy, where my sister went to school, so it’s just a better fit. The ISHA rule for transferring Is sitting out a year, which is hurting me with recruiting, but it’s starting to pick up now.
“I have a little bit of film. Our coach scheduled a few non-ISHA games, so I would have some film for schools.”
Despite the lack of game film, Herion is still hearing from programs across the Midwest.
“I am hearing from Iowa the most,” Herion stated. “I have to go down there to throw for camp, but I have already visited the school. Miami of Ohio and a lot of the MAC schools are in contact. I may go out to Duke and camp there. My friend, Jake Marwede, is already committed there, so I might throw for them.”
Ideally, Herion would love to go to a high academic college and one similar to Loyola Academy. However, he is still open to finding the best fit for him. He is also aware of the quarterback situation at Notre Dame and knows an offer might not come, as the Irish have a 2017 quarterback in Avery Davis, but he isn’t turning down the chance to compete and learn at Irish Invasion.
“I am open, but I would like to go to a good academic schools that will set me up after I graduate college,” said Herion. “I will probably go to a school like Loyola, but we will see how everything goes.
“I love to compete and show what I can do. A school like Notre Dame would be pretty cool and tough to turn down. It’d be awesome to play with John.”
The Illinois native will also be showcasing himself at the next two regionals for the Elite 11.
“I’ll be at the Elite 11 in Columbus this weekend and then I will go the one in Chicago next weekend,” stated Herion. “I will be competing in those the next two weekends.”
