We will be a stereotypical ND team of the last two decades. Lots of guys chucking up threes and zero presence in the paint. A much more athletic and capable version but still bound to be a fire and ice show.

Vasturia disappearing at the end of the season was very concerning. Conversely, VJ lighting it up and creating on his own a bit was encouraging. Not sure what we will do to counteract lack of interior players on defense - on offense it really doesn't concern me. Any level of consistent play is very hard for me to imagine but I suspect we will have the ability to beat anyone on any given night (and likewise lose to anyone any given night).

I'm excited to see what Temple Gibbs can do at PG. 247 Composite has him #75 in the country, so he's one of the better recruits Brey has ever pulled in.

No offense to Farrell, but I hope he's not a starter. Can be great off the bench, but he'd have to take a big step forward for me to be comfortable with him getting big-time minutes next season.

No clue what we're going to do at Center. Any lineup with Colson at the 5 seems like it can only be used in short spurts. I'm not sure how realistic it is to expect Geben or Mooney or Burns to play a big role....would love a transfer or late big man recruit to come in.

PG: Gibbs/Farrell
SG: Vasturia/Pflueger
SF: Beachem
PF: Ryan
C: Colson

These 7 seem assured of playing time. I think Beachem/Ryan give us enough height that we can get away with playing 4 guards and not get completely killed on defense. We need another big man to emerge. I think we can be a fringe top-25 team if we get that. Losing DJ/Auguste sucks, but every other player on our team should take pretty large step forwards.

Honestly? Probably not that good. Unless some unproven guys really, really, really step up.

I'm not worried about guard play...even with DJ leaving. Vasturia and Farrell (who impressed me late in the season) should be a fine starting tandem with Pfluegler and, likely, Temple Gibbs coming off the bench. I think Bonzie and VJ starting with Matt Ryan coming off the bench will be able to hold their own vs most teams as well and could score a lot of points...especially if VJ and Ryan continue to improve their all-around game and become more than just jump shooters (which VJ started to do late this year). The area we will get absolutely destroyed will be inside. With Auguste leaving, there are no big men returning with any experience. Geben showed nothing this year to say he'll be able to contribute next year. Brey is all-in on Thon Maker at this point. If we can sign him, I think this team is a tournament team again next year and could be very dangerous. If not, we might be lucky to make the NIT. I have become a big Brey fan the past couple of years...but the lack of recruiting big men the past few classes will be inexcusable if he can't land Maker.

What about Martinas Geben at Center? What is his deal? Haven't heard much about him, but he's our only other big guy left for next season.

I'd expect something similar the this year's BC team.

I know nothing about Gibbs but he needs to be good because Farrell isn't.
Vasturia is a good player but was awful in this years tourney.
Beachem will have to be the star on the team next year.
Ryan I think can be good but this will be his first year with significant playing time.
Colson is so inconsistent it isn't funny. One game he plays lights out the next he can barley rebound.

I understand the acc is losing a lot of good players this year to the draft but the players Duke,UNC, and others get are players we could only dream about.

Does anyone do basketball recruit profiles? I'd be willing to start if someone told me how to do it

That would be awesome. Much more interested in a Thon Maker bump than a Demetris Robertson bump, honestly... no idea how to make them though

No one has done them since I have been on here. There is just a general BB recruiting topic. I think it would be cool though.

I just watched a few high school videos. He seems like a good player but I wouldn't say great. He looks to be a team player. He gives the ball up a lot but he needs to be more physical in the paint. He does shoot well though.

The last good class we had was 2013. You would think that the total success of the program would help in that Dept. So do that mean Brey blows as a recruiter?

Matt Ryan, Rex Pflueger, and Elijah Burns isn't a good class?

Don't sleep on the 2016 class either. Temple Gibbs is the highest rated recruit Brey has landed since DJ and with the little size we have in the front court, John Mooney could be playing a lot of minutes next year. John Mooney and Nikola Djogo are also both borderline 4 stars

Mike Brey has always brought in mostly 3 stars and some 4 stars. He recruits kids that fit the program and it has worked very well.

Acc ranking 7th. National ranking 44 And I understand that ranking isn't everything but it does have value.

Gibbs is probably going to be playing big minutes this year and maybe even a starter.

Hoping for a big uptick in recruiting starting with next year's class. College basketball recruiting is so accelerated (and last year's ACC Championship and Elite 8 could have seemed fluky), that I don't think we have seen the benefits of the last two seasons yet on the recruiting trail.

Recruiting has always been like that though and it will stay like that until kids want to start playing school too. Brey will always be at a disadvantage where he has to work harder to develop his players than other coaches like Calapari, Self, and Coach K.

For example, Jerian Grant (a member of #51 overall class in 2010) and Pat Connaughton (member of the #47 overall class in 2011) were 2 points away from beating the 2nd best UK team ever (IMO) and advancing to the final four. Yeah, having an occasional top 20 class would be sweet but we have all seen Brey doesn't need a top 20 class to be successful.

Also, it doesn't help that Notre Dame basketball takes a back seat to Notre Dame football. If Swarbrick spent half the time on the mens team as he did with the football team, we'd probably see Notre Dame make a few final four appearances.

All very good points. I also thought being in the acc would help us recruit some. Who wouldn't want to play some of the best UVA,UNC,Duke?

Don't forget that the big East was the premier conference when we were there. So, while it could help, expecting a surge was/is probably unlikely.
