“Me and mom were just talking about Notre Dame last week,” said Gates, a 2017 recruit. “We were praying about everything. I had been talking to the Notre Dame coaches, they were following me on Twitter, so we just prayed about it. We said that maybe the offer is coming. Then it happened the next day. It’s just a blessing. You never know what prayer can do. It’s honestly a blessing to get that offer.”

“Well, Coach Denbrock was hitting me up on Twitter about a month ago,” said Gates. “He would send me some information on Notre Dame through Twitter. Then on Friday he started telling me more about Notre Dame and provided me some history on the program and the university. At the end, he told me I had a scholarship offer. It was wild.

“It was a blessing,” Gates added. “From everything I hear about Notre Dame, it’s a big school. I like Notre Dame a lot. I think I fit in well on their defense. Coach Denbrock also told me I could play on the offensive side of the ball. Wherever I fit in best, really. I’m honestly just blessed to receive this offer. It means a lot.”

“It’s going to have a big impact on me,” said Gates. “It’s also going to open a lot of doors. I know that other schools will reach out since Notre Dame offer. Really though, I have a whole lot of interest in Notre Dame. They’re already in the top group for me.”

“Coach Denbrock is a great guy,” said Gates. “He’s a great coach who makes me feel like I’m at home. He makes talking about the school fun. He makes the program sound great. He thinks I could have a really good impact at the school and I like what he has to say.”

“I remember C.J. Sanders,” said Gates. “I played against him when he was at Notre Dame [high school] and I was at Alemany. I remember tackling him. He’s a real nice player. I also know Equanimeous St. Brown’s brother Osiris St. Brown. I’m friends with him a little bit. I wouldn’t say I’m real close with either of them, but I know them for sure.”

247-goes on to say he doesn't have any dream offers but did play as osu in video games...lol

No dream offers yet you and your mother were praying that you would get a ND offer and after getting one you say it's a blessing. Like to see what type of dance ritual he is doing to get his dream offers then.

“It’s a great school, from what Coach Denbrock has been telling me,” said Gates during a one-on-one interview with 247Sports national analyst Ryan Bartow. “They have a history over there. They focus on making you a better person and help you with what you want to major in and get a degree in.”

“I’m going to take a visit up there on Apr. 1, which is my Spring Break,” said Gates. “Just talking to the coaches. They said they love my film and my game. Oregon is a big school, having a lot of kids going to the NFL Draft. I have a medium interest in Oregon. I still need to do my research though. Take my visits. It’ll help me determine my interest.”

*Buena Park (Calif.) defensive back Elijah Gates moved from outside the Scout 300 all the way up to the No. 73 player in the country. Gates is a player we liked a lot last summer and he went out and a had strong year in pads as well. This past winter, he has taken his game to another level. Now you can knock 7v7 and say it's not 'real football' but one position that does translate pretty well is corner and Gates has probably been the most impressive corner we've seen this winter. He's playing with a ton of confidence, looks bigger physically, more explosive and has great natural cover instincts. Oregon and UCLA look good early but he will visit Cincinnati, Notre Dame and Ohio State over the spring.

I have high hopes for this kid. Great looking prospect on either side of the ball. I have to agree with Scout on this on. They are so much better in the LA area than the other services. I wish Invasion would hurry up and get here.

4-star CB Elijah Gates Not Ready to Narrow List Yet - Football Recruiting - Scout

Gates, though, doesn't want to narrow his list done just yet, so he's not setting the other visits until that is down.
"I haven't narrowed it down, I just haven't had a chance to talk with my family to see what I should narrow it down to," said Gates. "I'll probably have a list soon, probably by when the season starts. I'll narrow it down to a top eight or a top seven."

Gates said that every school recruiting him is recruiting him hard, but said that he does here most from Notre Dame, Oregon and UCLA.
"Oregon, UCLA, Notre Dame, they all contact me the most, but I'd definitely say all are equally recruiting me," said Gates.

Saw this kid play last night and he is good. I thought he was better than the corners at Mission Viejo I saw in person earlier this season. Plays with flash and attitude which I like in a corner. Actually the whole Buena Park team did. Had some athletes for sure.
