First, you must have missed my post saying if he wants to live in Georgia then going to UGA is a more understandable option. I'm surprised that you went to Notre Dame considering your opinion on this issue. I don't think Notre Dame is a better choice based on academics than Georgia, I "know" it is. Have some self-respect for you degree and stop defending other schools based on nothing at all. You want to drop a Georgia Wikipedia list, fine. I'll see that and raise you this one.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_University_of_Notre_Dame_alumni

Again it's not about being impossible to succeed in life by going to UGA. That's obviously not the case. But you are acting like an ND degree and a UGA degree have the same expected value. Just not true at all. By the way, I have argued on the other side of this issue when someone compared USC to ND. So I don't have a blanket opinion about ND v. other schools. But Georgia is not USC.

You say "stop defending other schools based on nothing at all", but you clearly state you KNOW ND's degree is worth more than UGA...NOT TRUE...If it was, how can I without a doubt name 10 people (that I know) who graduated from UGA making more money than 10 people (who I know) that graduated from ND. All I'm saying is the person holding the degree has some input on how his life turns out...Regardless where you go. I'd like to think of myself as a pretty successful businessman, and when I'm hiring I don't care where you went to school when it's all said and done. I care if you are going to be able to execute the task I give you, and have me like you enough in the process. I met a guy at my sisters wedding who literally introduced himself by shaking my hand and letting me know he went to ND. My Dad said back when he went to ND, they called those guys rah-rah guys and threw them in the lake behind Stanford hall.

Dude, you're conflating anecdotal evidence with statistical facts.

For example, there are tons of millionaires who never went to college. But if I were to say "I know all these millionaires who make more than anyone I graduated with, therefor the not going to college is more valuable than going to college" that wouldn't make sense... and the statistics show it doesn't make sense.

It's also like saying "if global warming is true, how come I name days last year that were record low temperatures?" Obviously, that doesn't make sense either.

It is 100% proven that the average Notre Dame graduate makes more than the average Georgia graduate, and it's 100% proven that the median Notre Dame graduate makes more than the median Georgia graduate. This does not mean that every Notre Dame graduate is going to make more than every Georgia graduate, or vice versa.

It's also a fact that Notre Dame has excellent, 90%+ graduation rates for football players in meaningful majors with real classes. Georgia Tech has the second worst graduation rate in the ACC at 63% and it's even worse for African American players. They've also written articles about how none of them are allowed to do engineering and they're all pushed on the "M Train" of easy classes to stay eligible.

So it's not opinion that, on average, the ND degree is more valuable. And it's not opinion that, on average, the odds of academic success for a student athlete at Notre Dame are higher. It doesn't matter who you know and how well they're doing.

Not answering for LAX, but I'll hire the ND grad all day long. If you're a smart businessman, you know not everyone on your staff is going to be Father Hesburgh and you need qualified people to make your company a success.

True story.......I run IT at my current company. At my former employer I did the same. I used a consultant, who had a great technical skill set, but was a bust when working and communicating with people. He also fancied himself an expert and always has an opinion on most anything. Would always interject himself into conversations even if he wasn't invited. He could drive you nuts at times. Guess where he works now? Yep I hired him, even with his flaws. Why? Because his skill set helps me achieve my goals for the company.

I agree you can get a great education at a lot of public schools. The difference is ND or Stanford is going to make you get a great education.

I have several SEC grads and a few ACC and Big 12 grads that are rock stars, and a few are quite brilliant. Wouldn't trade them for Harvard grads

I don't disagree with any of this, especially what's in bold. I think we both agree (without a doubt) that the averages are in your favor, to do really well in life with a ND degree. But if one was to chose to go to anywhere other than ND, they have every opportunity to do very well also or even better. Sometimes I get the vibe (not from you Lax) that people actually believe that if these athletes don't chose ND... and football doesn't work out that they are F#$@#$. And that to me couldn't be more untrue.

I would be very interested in seeing what non-NFL athletes from various schools wind up doing. We've got lots of guys on Wall Street and obviously one starting a career on Capitol Hill. What's going on for your average Georgia guy who doesn't make the NFL?

I'm confused by your numbers, or is that the joke?

It's a joke. But I am living proof that one does not need to go to a prestigious school in order to be successful. Maybe it would have made the path a little easier through networking, etc., but then the satisfaction I received from "making it" would probably mean a little less to me.

There are en exceptional few who are driven beyond comprehension who will make it no matter what the circumstances. Operative root word being "exception". Maybe DRob is one of those people, but often times we don't know until after the fact. I think we can agree that going the way of an elite academic school with a superior web of networking would greatly enhance one's chances of success.

I have a ton of family, who I don't speak with, that live in Bowling Green. I remember as a little kid when my Grandma got her new double wide. Then 2 of my aunts moved in with their kids and a neighbor.. err my uncle x 2? Lol

Really poor understanding of value and comparisons, it's impossible you went to ND. Or perhaps we really did overvalue the ND degree. It obviously isn't some magical key that bestows brilliance on each attendee.

Can confirm -- not all attendees are brilliant.

I probably wasn't clear enough. My point wasn't that I would hire him because he was an ND grad. Just pointing out that I would hire the pain in the ass, if I knew it was good for the company.

Never said I went to ND, and you obviously missed my point. For being the smartest guy in the room that surprises me.

You are a prime example of why outside of our fan base we get looked at like douche bags. Hey, we haven't won a decent bowl game in over 20 years...But we are ND, and we're smarter than everyone...SMH

not like this gets us any closer to that point, however.
