Does it annoy anyone else that 247 always says they have been hearing about this for weeks whenever they break a story like this? If they supposedly heard the rumors a few weeks ago then why aren't they telling the subscribers? What are we paying for again?

I really struggle to see the value in these recruiting sites 90+% of the time.

I don't get this nearly as much at ISD, which is why they get my money.

Sounds like a few posters on a certain message board.

Is that a lame NDNation reference?

I'm not upset about it, nor do I particularly care that Beal decommitted because ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

I'm just observing that a lot of the "premium content" on these sites is completely worthless, especially if the reporters are just sitting on info only to reveal it after the news breaks normally. Another 247 example is the Tunnel Vision feature they ran a few weeks ago - tons of great info in there that would have been nice to know during the cycle when it was actually relevant.

Honestly, IE has better coverage and almost as good insider access as most premium sites.

Right on. Funny enough, I just cancelled 247 this morning. I find out just as much here as I do over there. Plus I've never really gotten into the boards at 247. They weren't mobile-friendly enough for me.

I'm sorry, but I don't think Notre Dame should be in the business of package deals with non-athlete siblings. If she'd get in on her own, absolutely. But otherwise, it's too small and too selective a school for that. Start down that road and next half the recruits are bringing a posse to town (speaking of which: Ari Gold is one of the great characters of the last decade. The rest of Entourage, meh.)

Also. This sister is a senior and Beal is a junior, yes? So even if we let her in, then what for the next year? He really wraps it up? Really? And what if she gets homesick? It's just not a good idea.

Defensive staff. A lot of those guys were on board before the BVG era.

For the love of God. The guy was just hired in Dec. of 2013, meaning this year is his second recruiting class. "When has he ever............."?

Last year, BVG's staff landed 4*s:

Mykelti Williams
Jerry Tillery
Shaun Crawford
Tevon Coney
Asmar Bilal
Tevon Coney
Josh Barajas

This year, they landed:

5* Daelin Hayes

and 4*s:

Donte Vaughn
Troy Pride
Julian Okwara
DJ Morgan
Julian Love
Khalid Kareem
Jalen Elliott

* ratings are from Rivals.

WHy couldn't we? Part of the issue is I think we need a new Defensive Coordinator. But I'm not read to write BVG off yet because the last two years have been brutal with injuries. But it's sad when we can't even land kids who have a connection to the program already. Cage's brother, Haskell Garett, Younger St Brown who hasn't decided yet. I mean have you seen the offers going out lately? All i see is a bunch of kids who aren't ranked at all or not highly ranked. This class is supposed to be small.

You do realize that kids don't like to walk into the shadow of their older brothers all the time and their family impacts their decision too.

If you think ND having the #1 class hedges on Notre Dame getting a new defensive coordinator, then I don't know what to tell you, other than you are going to be disappointed when BVG leaves Notre Dame. Bob Diaco had a good defense and Notre Dame made a National Title appearance and didn't end up with the #1 class.

The other thing you are missing is the brothers of current Notre Dame players actually get to know the program better than any recruits, so they are making more of an educated decision than those not affiliated with the program. They know the positives and negatives of the school, so if they chose not to go to Notre Dame, then it's probably for the best.

The recent offers going out are to some damn fine football players. If you watch the film, you would see exactly why Notre Dame is offering them. There hasn't been an offer to a kid I would lump into the project category other than one and it's at a position where they can afford to take a chance bc of depth.

Good grief. Now we are attacking our own defensive coordinator, while families and recruits read this board, because a 2017 recommitted already. Like it's totally ND's fault. Gimme a break guys.

Don't bring any logic or facts into this discussion. We lost a 5 star recruit. This is all about emotion. lol

I think it is fair to say people may not be comfortable with ND (or any program/school) for reasons that have to do more with their own values and goals. It is hard for an 18 y/o to articulate those things, and so they will often provide a reason that is easy...or may not provide a reason at all.

I am really happy with the players the staff is identifying and recruiting. I think they are doing a good job of developing the talent, and this program continues to be more competitive. The trajectory is right. As well, if you must boil it down to average stars, keep in mind that BK has had a pretty good career because he can do more with less. Not saying you want him too have to do that all of the time, but I am saying he is going to put up some really good win numbers, and that continues to raise the profile of your program, and that helps the star power continue to improve.

Yes there are questions about the back end of the defense...things are easily ironed out...I believe. But can anyone argue with the development of D lineman...PARTICULARLY over the last 2 years. I have very serious doubts this kid changing his mind had anything to do with the D...and if he says so, he is looking for an easy way to say...I don't think I'm comfortable on the ND aisle.

I generally agree with you but it really depends on how close she was to getting in on her own. What if she was a 3.8 student with a 30 ACT score. While that is slightly a stretch (by ACT she would be in the bottom fourth of students at ND) I could understand pushing it through. If she had a 3.0 and a 24 of an ACT (or something similar) then not accepting her completely makes sense.

A 30 ACT is bottom 25% for ND admissions?

I had a good friend who had a 32 ACT and a 4.0 in school and didn't gain admission.

Pretty bummed. He had the athleticism to be a great coverage DE.

Coverage defensive end?

No one can prove to me since it was brought up yesterday that he is bigger than 6'2" and 215 lbs.

If you believe differently and want to show that I am off base, please, only provide certified measurements, not propaganda.

Looking back, every picture I have seen with M. Beal standing next to someone listed as 6'4" he looks a couple of inches shorter. He has great length (arms) but looks slender.)

With his speed I think he would make a great linebacker, a rush specialist like you see in the NFL.

But remember, yesterday in another thread, a number of posters were skeptical that a 220 pounder could play linebacker at ND!

Obviously, this guy is a take all day, because of his level of play. But I still feel strongly we don't need to insult him, or our coaching staff with libelous posts, that are ridiculously false.

For all we know, this whole thing may not be attached to his sister. Maybe he just wanted to look around and make sure, and the coaches said fine, but they had him role back his commitment until he decided, with certainty. Why couldn't this be the scenario?

Because nobody looks bad?

I believe that the 75th and 25th percentile is 34/32 so that would make someone with 30 in the bottom 25% (not that they actually admit people with a 30 though I would guess that some non-athletes with great profiles and an ACT of 30 could get in).

I was just making a slight at BVG. I can't stop thinking about Sheldon Day and Trumbetti being in middle coverage. IDK what size Beal is, and I no longer care. We'll sign some 3-star that was a 'steal' and I'll forget about him.

A lot of people know my feelings on BVG so i am not going there. I have really been following recruiting for about the last years. One thing is consistent every cycle is and that is we are slow on offers. Maybe Cage doesn't want to take the same path as his brother same with St. Brown.

We got smacked in the mouth again in a big bowl game by a team we do a lot of recruiting against. And don't for get some of the offers ND would never give due to grades and test scores.

Loy may be one of the bigger douchers in the business but I highly doubt Wiltfong is allowing him to put down quotes that aren't legit. Loy quoted someone close to Beal as saying this. Now could that be his mother, father, football coach, etc. That we don't know but I highly doubt this is made up considering, we heard about this when he committed. This hasn't been created out of thin air.
