If Drob wants to go to either Stanford or Notre Dame and the mom is totally against it because of her own selfish reasons that she wants him to be close to home is completely bad parenting - given that is the reason why.

You're talking Stanford and Notre Dame, c'mon man.

What about a mom that participates in her son picking a name out of a hat to determine what school he is attending?

Attacked? That sounds like a pretty harsh description of what happened. Truth is you don't know what reasons he may have for staying home - perhaps being close to family is important? All things considered I agree 100% that Stanford and ND are much better academic choices, but that's not everything that goes into making a college decision for these kids. That's all I was saying. I don't fault kids or parents in making decisions that is best for THEIR family and future. I think we as ND fans should be above casting judgment on others because they make a decision that you fail to see the logic in. It's not that it's an illogical choice, it just doesn't line up with your way of thinking. So why dismiss the choice and call it bad parenting?

No, he wants to go to Stanford or ND. It's his mom who apparently (at least at one point) preferred he stay in Georgia.

As for the general situation: if my son or daughter had the grades to get a free ride to Stanford or ND (or a school of similar academic background) and he/she was going to turn that down to go to a school like Ohio State for instance, you're damn right I wouldn't just say, "Ok, whatever you want to do." That. to me, betrays a complete lack of understanding of the importance of education. If others are ok with that line of thinking, are hands-off parents, and don't care where their kids go to school, that's fine. But I respectfully disagree.

Nope, I never said that. I was addressing the situation with Robertson's mom wanting him to go to Georgia over Stanford or ND (apparently his preferred schools) and questioned her judgment. I was suggesting exactly what bery was suggesting. Don't play the person with bad reading comprehension skills.

I was mentioning the time when you were "attacked." My reading comprehension is perfectly fine.

No, wrong again (please see post 1994 on this thread where someone calls me a "smug asshole"; I'd call that an attack). But keep telling yourself that.

Do we know he wants to attend ND or Stanford and that all other schools have been eliminated? Or we making assumptions based on a couple of cancelled visits?

As for the other: I have 2 children myself. I hope they have the opportunity to go to the most prestigious universities in the world. I understand very few kids get that chance and I truly hope that they take it. But If my kid has the test scores and intelligence to get into Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Princeton, ND, Duke, etc. I say do what makes you happy. Be yourself and don't apologize to anyone for doing so. I'm a hands on parent - I work hard for my kids and want everything in the world for them. But what I don't want is for them to work themselves into an early grave and not enjoy life.

You said you've worked in healthcare so I'm sure you've seen it - the 40 year old in great shape that drops dead leaving a wife and children behind. I've been in the room when that's happened, it's not a pretty sight. What's the point of getting that education and working 60, 70, even 80 hours a week if it makes you miserable? I'm not going to judge another parent just because they want their kid close to home with a college degree (something that 70 percent of the US population doesn't have) living a simpler, easier life.

It's my understanding that he has stated Stanford and ND are his preferences because of academics. That's what others have reported.

As for the rest of your post, I truly respect your thoughts on the matter.

Totally agree, but others will tell you otherwise. I got attacked for suggesting what you're suggesting.

Oh, yes. I totally attacked you for making accusations on a recruit's parent when we did not know the full story.

I know that Chris Brown's father constantly suggested Chris would stay in state to reporters in order to keep Carolina folk off his back. Everyone on the board thought Mr. Brown was then a loon and trying to force Chris to stay home even though he was just a good parent with good intentions which many found out after Mr. Brown joined the board.

Which brings me to my next point, though it might seem like Robertson's brother is pro-ND and his mom wants him to stay close to home... Let's not jump to conclusions about the character or actions of any of the parties involved in this because the fact of the matter is that we know hardly anything about this kid or what's really going on.

Stop this crap. Seriously.

Already asked for people not to question/attack some parents when we don't really know anything. Nobody knows a damn thing about his mom or how involved she really is.

There is no point in assuming and insulting a recruit or their parent on our very large, very public forum.

Those were my posts. Glad you survived that severe verbal lashing.

Once again, please refrain from questioning the parenting here until we know the whole story at least. Hell, it is now being reported that Robertson's mother PREFERS Notre Dame! So now you have been talking mess about someone who is in our corner. Bravo!

Did I say you specifically attacked me? Please see post 1994 in this thread. Maybe you don't consider that attack, but that's an attack as far as I'm concerned.

Which post? Post 1994 in this thread you mean?

Bro I'm just kidding, I didn't go back and read it.

This is a tough topic to get on about though. Obviously, knowing a little bit of the background with this recruit makes it easy to make assumptions. I don't think it is fair to do that though because we do not have any details. Who knows what led to the situation he is in, and who knows what is being sold to his mother by an array of coaches that will tell kids and parents anything to help get that kid to sign with their school? Let it play out, let's see if we can find out more information, and then we can form informative stances on the subject without putting a recruit's parent on blast without all the facts.

Agreed. I'm ready to move on from the topic.

Watch what you say, I'm sure when a person makes one of the most important decisions of their life, they consult anonymous strangers on a rinky dink Internet message board for help.

If his choices include ND and Stanford...sheesh. Seems like a good kid.

...I'm guessing he promised someone he'd wait for the test scores, and then decide. If so that'd make him a man of his word...

Hope he is Irish when its all over.

For Wiltfong to say that he expects him to be Irish before next Monday makes me think he heard something fairly rock solid that would make him that confident. Because Demetris's brother, Carlos, seems to think it could be multiple weeks.

I'd add Sanders to that list as well. I think he might be the best playmaker with the ball in his hands that we have coming back. Kid is going to be really good. If I'm BK, even if Sanders doesn't make his way into the starting lineup with all this talent, I'm making darn sure he has packages/plays to get him the ball. I want to see him get at least 5 touches per game.

I'm with this, obviously I want Robertson. But Sanders is no consolation prize. He's the real deal. His speed, plus moves (without losing speed) is absurd.

Give this kid some midscreens with the big wrs blocking... Watch out.

I agree, we are loaded at WR, I certainly didn't omit them as a slight. What's even better is that we have a couple QB's that can get em the ball too! Should be another fun year!

Could e an even better year if all the knuckleheads on defense could ever learn where to line up!

Lol, I was thinking that after I wrote what I did. I think we have a lot of talent on that side, but they had better put it all together or it will be more of the same. BVG is gonna be coaching for his job imo this year.

Perhaps a new thread is in order? Assistant coaches on the hot seat.
