Please watch Nick Martin's head before he snaps it. Clear head nod. Clear tell.

Temple is that well coached. I am sure they picked up on it. I can only hope that the ND staff learns from it. And takes care of the problem.

I was much more concerned with the fifteen yard penalty that Nick pulled. I am not arguing whether or not he should have been flagged. He should know better than to do what he did. He has a 'C' on his chest for the second year. He needs to be better than that.

I'll take the aggression from an Offensive Lineman, trying to clean guys up off of his running back. As long as it only happens once or twice a season, it will probably be a net positive for all of the times that same aggression gets us an extra yard or two on a run. Especially on 3rd downs. It was unfortunate for sure, but I wouldn't be concerned unless it becomes a habit.

I think you are right. I will bet there was a lot going on in the trenches that didn't make the replay.

Watched the game. NMart kicked a$s all day, plus out hustled everybody. Played both center and guard, and stuffed people at both. Mayock is a friend of Notre Dame, but he has reason to praise Big Nick.

But of course "our Oline sucked."

He's definitely going to benefit from being Zack's brother since Zack has had so much success in the NFL. It's kind of like the Pouncey brothers to a lesser degree. Maurkice comes out the year before and has a great year in the NFL. Mike comes out the next year and is universally seen as a lesser prospect than his brother but still gets drafted in the first round and higher than where Maurkice was drafted. I don't see anyway that Nick gets drafted higher than Zack but I think it could have the effect of moving him up higher than where he would have been drafted if his brother didn't have so much success. I think Nick is more of a fourth rounder but I hope he proves me wrong and gets drafted higher. Just looking at the last few drafts, it seems that third round is where second and third ranked centres start coming off the board, so that may be where he gets drafted.

I agree with this. I figured Nick is a 4-6th round prospect, but would get pushed up a round or two because of his brother.

I'd be surprised to see him fall past the 3rd with a strong Senior Bowl and the pedigree. Couple that with his flexibility and he's a solid Day 2 prospect.

Nonsense. He's easily a top 75 player and it has nothing to do with his brother. The Pouncey comparison is silly as Mike Pouncey was considered just as talented as his brother Maurkice. He was a 1st rounder based on his own play.

What's interesting to me is how under-appreciated Nick Martin has been by our collective fanbase. I've seen a lot of negative on him over the years despite him obviously being one of the best centers in college football. He's not exactly a dominant run blocker but he was always consistently good at a very tough position.

Because of the value of centers relative to other OL positions I've always thought he'd be a third round pick and then probably play a half dozen years in the league. Given how he has shown out, I wouldn't be surprised to see someone with a need possibly reach for him in the second round. For example, the center position has been a disaster for the Redskins for a couple years now... would they draft him towards the end of the 2nd?

And looking forward to next year, replacing a captain at the toughest position on the OL might be hard. I'm very interested to see who gets the nod here, and I kind of hope it's Mustipher because I've always really liked him as a run blocker. In the little we've seen of him he's appeared very powerful.

Obviously everyone will have him rated differently, all you need is one team to think he's a second rounder and they can make him one. I don't think he's a top 100 player but who really knows at this point, that's the great part of the draft. Every team will come out thinking they did great and we'll have to wait a few years to see.

Did you pay attention to Mike's draft? He was seen as not as good as his brother and most people used his genetics and Maurkice's pro bowl rookie year as a selling point for him. He was definitely a first rounder (a lot saw him as a guard because he struggled snapping) and I wanted him as a Steelers fan but he wasn't seen as good of a prospect as Maurkice.

Having a successful family member will always help players get drafted or a chance in the NFL.

I haven't truly appreciated him until I started seeing draft reviews on him and what others unbiased opinion of him was. Too little too late and while I didn't view him as a scrub, I did view him as the 'little brother'. My fault for that.

As for Mustipher, I was listening to the ISD podcast a week or so ago and they mentioned a lot kind of has to do with what happens to Steve Elmer. One reason to go Mustipher over Hoge for C was because Mustipher has a little more experience as the C and Hoge is 6'4' so he might be better suited for a G. Anidea that was thrown out there was:

RT - McGlinchey
RG - Hoge
C - Mustipher
LG - Nelson
LT - Bars

For those advocating McGlinchey move to the 'blind side', Pro Football Focus has done studies on RT/LT and found that the RT position is just as valuable as the LT position so moving him might not be the best idea. Keep him at a position he is comfortable with.

I know for a fact Steelers were just as high on Mike as Maurkice and were even hoping to be able to land Mike.

NFL Events: Combine Player Profiles - Nick Martin

NFL COMPARISON John Sullivan

BOTTOM LINE Three-year starter who possesses the leadership, intelligence and toughness that general managers and offensive line coaches look for from their centers. A season ending knee injury in 2013 might have taken away some of his natural bend and athleticism, but Martin’s play strength and toughness should make him an early starter in the league at either guard or center.
