Brey likes to stick to a 7, sometimes 8, man rotation. Still cant figure out why.
Brey likes to keep the best players in and playing together. He wants the offense to remain consistent at all times.

I think it's fine for big games, but a whole season like that is a lot of miles on legs.

I think it sucks - find a hot hand and ride it. Brey never even gives half the team a chance to get hot. He lives or dies on the big names, go to players. If they have an off night we are screwed b/c Brey thinks he can keep forcing them the ball. Defensively, they have to defend soft b/c they have been ingrained with the idea that the team cannot win without them. For fouls alone you need to use the bench so your top guys can stay aggressive.

If guys know they will get their shot every game, and get minutes for production, they will put up more effort. Also think it is better for recruiting when minutes are spread around more. No reason Torres couldn't have been plugged in for 5 minutes a game last year to rough up the post players and grab boards. VJ had games he barely got on the floor. Colson only got his initial chances out of pure necessity - and Brey was still slow to find him minutes he more than earned. Size of the game doesn't matter, Brey thinks he can win with the best five players and nobody else. Offense doesn't have to lose "flow" when you swap out a few guys, they have all played together enough to more than figure it out over the course of a season.

And screw Bo Ryan - hate the Badgers. He probably is just pouting about losing 5 seconds on the shot clock.

If you want to see a team choke a game away, go back and watch the us vs IU today. 14 point lead and we blow it. We absolutely get tight and choke the game away. IU wanted the game way, way more than us in the second half. Just and absolute but whooping in the second half. Out coached, out played, everything.

Bad, bad, bad. Our offense had no Idea what to do in the second half, and rebounding was a ghost.

Too bad, maybe a good learning experience. The problem is, what happens when we start playing actual good teams??

Just a very disappointing game.

One of the more frustrating ND games I can remember. So early, but this team doesn't seem to have any of the "magic" that past teams have showed.

We need to at the very least take care of the bottom and the middle-of-the-road teams in ACC play early to get some confidence.

14 point lead and we blow it.

16 point lead. Outscored 19-4 in the last 7:25.

The team has not defended well from 3 at all this year. Teams regularly shooting 50-60% against us.

Even though they were draining 3s, and we couldn't get a rebound, the massive FT disparity didn't help at all.

And yeah, it was a "road" atmosphere, but you don't want to blow that large of a lead against the Crean and crimson.

1 point and 2 rebounds by Zach Auguste in today's loss... This is in addition to getting abused by Virginia's big men. With Jerian and Pat gone I was more optimistic than most I talked to about this year because Auguste was coming back, but they are going to struggle if he has efforts like this.

Jackson is in a little bit of a slump but began to break out of it in the second half. There were solid contributions from the other starters as well and while Virginia is an excellent team, the team is going to be a middling bubble team unless they either get closer to the offensive execution of last year or more bench production. Defense has regressed quite a bit too.

Damn!! Fire everyone and pull all of the scholarships for anyone who missed a play. Wait. Sorry, thought I was in one of the football threads.

It is hard when you lose a 1st and 2nd round NBA Draft pic, and both were your leaders.

But, without much height defense and rebounding is showing.

Love Coach Brey, but it will be a building process this year. He will get it dialed in for the talent available.

Very frustrating performance in the 86-82 loss to Pitt. Annoying to see the team come out flat at the start of the game (Pitt scored the first 10, and we trailed 28-10 at one point) and then, after cutting the lead to 6 by half, coming out flat again to start the second half. We were clawing back all game.

The defense is awful, as everyone knows. The 3-pt D is especially bad. Teams with more or less talent (UW-Milwaukee, Loyola Chicago, and now Pitt) have drained 3s on us at home. Laughable.

Also, 9-14 (64%) from the line. Missed FTs really take the air out of a comeback.

I love how even last year, with our best team in some time, we still lost to old BE foes Pitt and Syracuse (even though we were the better team) even while beating most of the class of the original ACC (who were also the better ACC teams last year).

Hopefully things are improved in time for a GT team that just beat UVA.

Really frustrating game but a couple of things:

1) Pitt has one of the best offenses in the country and they were on tonight. Even when we played great defense, hand in the face, etc. they were draining everything.

2) Random aside but the crowd was fantastic tonight. Best I've seen since Duke last year. Students not there but the place was rocking as we came back. Nearly every seat taken. That's really good to see.

You guys look at the negatives of this game. Pitt came out strong and their main 3 pt guy had the game of his life. Yet, our boys still had a shot to win this game. They have talent, and yes the defense is sub par, but I think by the ACC tourney they will be much better.

Are they a championship team? Not at all. But they can make some waves in the tourney

Battling with Duke in Cameron. Bonzie is playong out of his mind! Duke really, really hurting us with the 3 ball. DJ has been great, Vasturia solid. Auguste struggled early with easy misses. VJ has been a nonfactor.

Yeah if Auguste would have finished on just half the layups he missed we would be in good shape.
