Yes only if only on the merit of talking to reporters after the Rees, Calabrese incident where he essentially told the reporters to go pound salt.

Too funny - someone voted yes for Goodman and no for Manti.

This is gonna make for some interesting discussion this off season.

I voted yes for Goodman, and explained my reason. (knowing full well the nos would cave it in)

I don't think he is even close to qualifying, duh. But he was my high school teammate and is a close family friend so I feel obligated to choose yes. Eifert would be a much much better option.

But you also voted yes for Manti.

I wasn't intentionally being critical of the votes, I find it interesting and know it's going to generate some really exciting dialogue.

What is there against Goodman for not being a ND man? Was he like a big asshole or something? Or just not good enough of a player, I'm sort of confused on the criteria

The guy had 35 career receptions. If we gave the honor to every ND player that was a good dude, then it wouldn't be a very exclusive club.

It means that the Notre Dame Man moniker has become the new Heisman popularity vote of IE. I hope none of these former players stumble into these threads.

As Whiskey and others have mentioned, how in the world are we qualified to vote for anyone if football performance has nothing to do with it?

I graduated from ND and love the school to death but I haven't done anything remotely noteworthy with my life to be giving a special honor. This is supposed to honor the group of players who were a cut above the rest, on and off of the field. Otherwise there is no point at all.

The fact that this is even a poll... I thought it was a joke at first.

It's pretty clearly a joke. This whole IE hall of fame thing is pretty dumb if your not basing it strictly on Stats and awards. We barely know these kids at all.

So you just wasted a bunch of our time creating a thread as a joke?

cool.

I get it, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. Plenty of anecdotes and behind the scenes stuff filter out about players over the course of a season. You don't need to know everything about a particular person to get an idea of what their character is. We hear all the time how one player stepped up and delivered a speech at halftime to lead the team, or one player coached up another after his injury, or someone else started a charity after graduation to help the less fortunate. I have no problem with popularity votes, my biggest gripe is the fact we're using "Notre Dame Man" for this when the school/community outside of IE already had a loose definition of what that title entails. It's kind of breaking with precedent. It's somewhat like taking an established award, like the Doak Walker, but instead of giving it to the best RB we're going to give it to a Linebacker now. It is what it is I guess.

chill. If you spend this much time on IE voting in a internet poll that would take 10 seconds clearly isnt wasting your time.

Didn't John basically talk Weis into getting Eifert up for a junior day?

If my memory is correct, that's enough for a win from me.

Yep, Tyler really only had serious interest from lower/mid level D1 teams, before Goodman got in Weis's ear about bringing him up for summer camps. Remember, Eifert's dad was an all american basketball player at Purdue, and that was his first choice before the Notre Dame offer came in.

So what you're saying is you aren't a Notre Dame Man.

Haha, so true. I thought I'd have a little fun with it. Instead of voting no for someone that deserves it, I thought I'd vote yes for someone who doesn't. It cracked me up.

I thought this whole thing started over whether or not someone was a ND man or not... So is it just whether or not the player was good AND wasn't an asshole?

If Chris Brown who beats his girlfriend can be a Notre Dame man, the John Goodman who was hilarious in Lebowski and Arachnophobia should get it too.

Two people voted for David Eckstein for the Hall of Fame, anything is possible.
