247 is pretty high on his kid and some around there, including Wiltfong, have liked this kid for awhile now. I'll try and find it later but he performed pretty well at some camps where he outshined more notable players.

It appears to me that Nate has twice committed to schools, just to secure a spot. First it was to Purdue back in June when Purdue was his best offer and then to Michigan in December when they were his best offer. Both times he committed just days after receiving an offer.

He's continued to get other offers and interest from some top schools.

Volnation thread was claiming that Tennessee offered Nate as a Blue-shirt. I'm sure that didn't go over well. Don't know what Nate's response would be if the Vols offered him a regular scholarship

Just watched the senior film. This is a no brainer offer to me.

I just watched the first 2 minutes and my question is... Who should we offer first? Johnson or the QB??? That dude was dropping absolute dimes. This calls for more investigation because those two look better than Costello and Crawford on film.

I checked them out on Maxpreps. They were the undefeated big school champ and #31 on the national ranking That QB had incredible numbers in just 11 games (missed 4). Thompson had 1700+ yds this year and 27 TD's

Here's the link to Maxpreps.

Player Stats - Independence Eagles Football (Thompson's Station, TN)

His Sparq score was 111.39. JMc's was 117 for comparison.

40 = 4.60
shuttle = 4.03 - very nice
vert = 39" - very nice
power ball = 35'

Is he getting pushed out of Michigan? I see his CB is split between Tennessee and Vandy, although he's committed to Michigan.

Nate Johnson Recruit Interests

I doubt he's getting pushed out, he was a very late offer. He just committed like a month ago. The kids that get pushed out generally are ones offered very early on in the process and commit right away. Those BALLZ predictions for Johnson were all made before he committed to Michigan.

Like this kid and Dylan Crawford a hell of a lot better than Ahmir Mitchell or Brad Hawkins, who I think should both play defense.

I hate when they speed up the recruiting videos. Seems to have above average speed but not elite. I didn't really see him run away from to many people.

With that said, the kid runs great routes, cuts on a dime and runs tough after the catch.

you're dead on. He does have above average speed, but not elite. He ran a laser-timed 4.59 in the 40 at the Nike camp in Columbus. His short shuttle time was in the top 5 there at 4.03 and his vertical was 39".

He's explosive and can cut and he's cat quick, just doesn't have that top end 4.3-4.4 speed, which is fine honestly. Because he can get open and he can make stuff happen after the catch because of his quickness. Best to have both, but IMO it's better to have elite quickness/explosion than to have just elite straight line speed and nothing else.

He's now scheduled to visit the second to last weekend... so roughly 8 days from now. Doing Miami this weekend... then us... then Penn State. That's the current plan, he's clearly up the board of some pretty reputable schools.

Going to add him to the list when I have chance.

Visit must have went well enough that he cancelled his Vandy visit to come to ND on the 22nd.

I don't get why Michigan would push him out.

He reminds me of TJ Jones. I also think this kid could be a good corner.

He's not being pushed out, he just committed. His recruitment is blowing up pretty quickly and he's trying to see what else is out there in a short period of time. UM fans don't want to lose this kid. I also agree that he could be a nice CB. I'd start him on offense but I can see the feet, hips, and change of direction you want from a CB.

Denson visits Michigan commit - Notre Dame - Scout

On Thursday, the first day of the January contact recruiting period, Notre Dame assistant Autry Denson paid a visit to a Michigan commitment.

Three-star slot receiver Nathan Johnson of Thompson’s Station (Tenn.) Independence met Denson for the first time and learned the Irish were considering him as a potential offer candidate.

“Coach Denson talked to me about the type of place that Notre Dame is and how he thinks that I would love it if I visited,” Johnson said. “They haven’t offered me yet, but he said they were close. He said he needs to talk it over with all of the other Notre Dame coaches and the wide receiver coach.”

Jones, who committed to Michigan in December while on an official visit to Ann Arbor, has plans to take visits to Miami this weekend and Penn State on Jan. 29.

“I definitely want to visit Notre Dame if they offer me,” Johnson said. “It’s a school with a lot of pride and a school that you want to be associated with. I’m still 100 percent committed to Michigan, but I want to compare schools to Michigan and see what else is out there.”

Johnson was scheduled to visit Vanderbilt on Jan. 22 but canceled that visit on Thursday.

Notre Dame is still in the mix for uncommitted receivers Damian Alloway and Demetris Robertson but may soon expand its wide receiver board with new offers.

The Irish would like to add 1-2 more wide receivers in the Class of 2016.

Doesn't he needs to visit before the offer is official?

Hope this isn't indicative of our chances with d rob

I think you take both at this point. Johnson would make a great CB too if he can't break through at WR.

Always cracks me up when I read this. If you're 100% I don't think you visit.
