The D Zone: Camp Pride 2016 Offense Report: Top Performers

Our Co-Camp Pride MVP's were Ann Arbor Pioneer 2017 RB/LB Antjuan Simmons and Orchard Lake Saint Mary's 2017 WR/CB Kahlee Hamler.

It was a relatively short and sweet performance by Ann Arbor Pioneer 2017 RB/LB Antjuan Simmons, who worked out at RB in position drills and 1 on 1's. Simmons with a Class of 2017 high, 34 offers was the last person with something to prove on Saturday, but he showed up and touched up on his skills. Simmons is so quick and fluid in all his movements and with a frame that is filling up nicely for a high school Junior, the physical tools are there too. Simmons performed at RB in 1 on 1's and on most every drill was wide open on his routes.

only knock on him is his size. If he was 6'3, 225-230, he's a 5* player, because his tape and his play on the field are scary good. If he was Dalein Hayes size, forget about it.

Hard to predict or project a 6'0, 200 pound guy as a future college LB. Fortunately he's got a lot of time to grow.

Denzel Perryman comes to mind - that kid was a beast.

Awesome news. Hope he commits. One thing that has become very clear is our coaches are:
1. Excellent identifiers of talent
2. Not afraid to jump in the deep end once they see something they want
3. Very confident in their scouting...there have been MANY times they jumped in on a kid when nobody else was, only to watch the kid blow up and realize our guys really do know their shit, and were just ahead of the curve.

This kid's going to blow up, and the idea of him playing LB at 6'0 225 lbs with his speed, instincts and ferocity sounds pretty damn good to me.

He's in the process of blowing up. He's got all the Midwest powers on board and getting interest from the kid tier SEC programs as well. He remind me of the LSU OLB's.

kid is the best prospect in MI for 2017 and it's not even close. Getting him would be huge

in my mind yes, i think simmons is a can't miss prospect

To say that he's the best and it's not close seems like a stretch IMO. This kid is good, and maybe very good but there's not enough film to evaluate of him at LB to even make that claim.

I feel the exact same way about Hayes this year. How is the kid a 5* prospect on defense when there's so little film to evaluate of him? Because he killed it in camps with no pads on?

We need a little more film on this kid before he can be put into the "can't miss" category in my opinion.

No way. If he was Daelin Hayes' size, maybe. But he's around 200 pounds with a smallish frame. There is no way to know if he can add 30 pounds without losing the explosion and athleticism that makes him so great. There's just no way to know. Some guys just can't do it.

Brandin Hawthorne, a kid from Pahokee, FL that Michigan took under Rodriguez comes to mind. Hawthorne was same type of player as Simmons in high school, 190-200 played mostly LB/DE type role in high school. Got to Michigan had trouble getting up to and staying into the 220's, lost just a little bit of that athleticism that made him a problem in high school. Just that little bit was enough to throw him off.

Simmons is no sure thing.

DPJ is one of the best prospects to come out of Michigan in a very long time. He's a sure thing. Best player in Michigan, and it's not close.

Yup.

But this response seems to indicate they will be in it if they really push:

Antjuan Simmons Explains Why Michigan is Not in His Top 11 Schools - Maize n Brew

Hopefully we can get him locked up before UM becomes a factor.

well that's pretty stupid on Harbaugh's part IMO. Can't just assume a kid down the street from you will commit to you without really putting in the recruiting work.

Simmons is no sure thing bc of lack of size, but he's most definitely a take and a kid that you recruit. He's a good deal better than a lot of the recruits Harbaugh took early on in the 2016 class that he seems to be pushing out to make room for higher ranked kids.

had to cancel the scheduled visit to ND this weekend bc of some academic event apparently.

Got a call from new LB coach Chris Patrdige and RB coach Tyrone Wheatley, he'll be unofficially visiting Michigan this weekend.

I don't mind the presence of a skunkbear around these parts. Any Midwesterner can relate to that acceptance. The caddish faux elitism. A gaudy house built on sand. The Potempkin career of Bo swelling in your chests.

But this is a little much. Take that elsewhere.
