Per Anna, Clemson should not be a factor. His mom supports the teams that believed in him from the beginning. ND still the favorite

Seeing a meltdown beginning to percolate, Big23 swoops in and calms the restless natives.

I too have heard the 'Clemson is not a real threat' banter. I hope it's true, but it is in his backyard.

I love the higher star guys because it's a good look for the program and makes other big time recruits take ND seriously, but the more I hear about Pride, the more I feel like I want him over any of the remaining DB targets, Fuller, Hamlin, and Long included.

And he's looking like the only one we will get

So, this is second hand info. I have a lot of confidence with who I got it from, but don't know about the chain it came from.

The coach for the HS where I live said Pride's coaches have said that the family actually wants him to leave the state. They believe it will be better for him and his football career to leave SC. TIFWIW.

Clemson is putting together an exceptional defensive program. They lost the majority of the #1 D in the country last year and all they do is put this D on the field likes it no big deal.

This makes me excited to land Pride now that they offered

Being a defensive player in the SE and not in Bama/LSU, it'd be damn hard to turn down Clemson. I like the sound of the report but will personally not count them out if a visit happens.

Loy saying its an ND/UNC battle with ND having the lead.

Just looking through the commit lists, I'm not sure why a high caliber player would want to join a pretty mediocre class at UNC over what's being put together at ND. Unless he's a fan, the better opportunity seems to be ND, and he would have the opportunity to earn playing time if the recent reviews are accurate.

Anna: May take other visits if Troy wants (mom sounds settled). Family will discuss this coming week after the Shrine Bowl.

We usually win with the mothers. The big question is how much will he listen to her?

I hope he isn't listening to anyone. I hope he makes up his own mind for or against ND. We know how well it's worked out in the past when a player listens to their parent.

Hopefully he sees the opportunity ND presents.

Told NC State Scout he hopes to decide this month, ND sticking out front

Pride talks Clemson offer

PARTANBURG – Greer cornerback Troy Pride got word of Clemson’s offer on Thursday night when Will Young pulled him aside.

After talking with his head coach, who’s serving as an assistant on the Shrine Bowl staff, Pride contacted Clemson defensive backs coach Mike Reed.

“(Reed) really just said he wanted to be my coach the next couple of years,” Pride told TCI on Friday morning. “He said he wanted to ask my mom’s permission before it, so I think I’m going to try to get her on a call with him later on today, so we’ll see how that goes.”

Clemson is now in the mix with several schools, including South Carolina, Notre Dame, UNC and NC State.

“It’s big. For them to come on board now, it’s obviously a blessing,” Pride said of Clemson. “All of my offers are a blessing and I’m grateful and thankful for all the schools that have decided to believe in me and extend thousands of dollars for me. That’s always a blessing and I’m always grateful.”

Despite their late arrival to the party, Clemson still has a shot at landing the former Virginia Tech commitment.

“Like I said, when my recruitment comes open, it’s open,” Pride said. “I’m not snubbing anybody. As late as they came, it’s fine. I’m still going to look and see if it’s the best decision for me.”

Notre Dame had him on campus for an official during the fall. NC State hosted earlier this month. Pride hasn’t scheduled any for January.

A myriad of factors will be considered as Pride weighs his options.

“I’m looking at total packages. I’m looking at depth chart. I’m looking at coaches. I’m looking at how well I fit into the scheme. I’m looking at all kind of things,” he said. “I’m just weighing everything, to make sure it’s the correct decision. What I want to study, things like that. I’m putting it all in the pot, to help find the best one.”

Clemson’s status as the No. 1 team in the country helps their cause.

“It does a little bit, because I always want to contend for championships. I like big rings,” Pride said. “Their success, it’s great. They’re having a great season, in the playoff. They’re doing their thing, and that contributes in some aspects. I wouldn’t say that’s a main focus…moving forward, I want to win. I’m a winner.”

FWIW, Anna talked to Troy's mom very recently but his mom hasn't really talked to Troy because he is at the Shrine Bowl. Sounds like the family will discuss post Shrine Bowl. I think ND can get him

Think there was speculation 2 or 3 pages back that ND was taking him or Hamlin and preferred Hamlin.
I see, I see. I'd have to think the staff would take a definite Commitment from him now over a possible Hamlin commitment later.

No doubt. I'd take both if it was up to me!

Same but TP said it was likely poor wording, as he didn't believe the staff was currently blocking Pride from committing. From what I understand, he'd be welcome today if he wanted to join this class.
