This. And they do a really cool video montage that hits home with parents. Basically, what it means to you that your kid is at ND. That personal experience resonates well with recruits and their families. Since his mom and aunt will be there, it's a huge plus.

I hope this years video at the banquet has has a profound effect on Jaylon :)

Time to play devil's advocate for a second- would you rather Jaylon for one more year or Caleb's commitment?

Tough call...I'd pick Jaylon for another year. We could get another Kelly when we have a "two-time Butkus Award winner" leaving. Although kelly is my biggest want left for sure. We need play makers on D.

Just taking into account the production on the field it'd be Jaylon as if he came back that'd go a long way in us getting the playoff and taking home the whole thing next season. However, taking into account other things like Jaylon's best interests, I'd say Kelly as Jaylon should probably go to the NFL, though I'll miss watching him on Sundays.

Caleb's in a heart beat. 3-4 years vs. 1.

I disagree. All due respect to Caleb, any HS prospect is never a sure thing. Having Jaylon back there next year would be as if we're playing defense with 12... In hypotheticals, I would trade Kelly to have Jaylon lead us to the playoffs next year. Now let's get back to earth and let's get both damn it haha.

Jaylon all day everyday. Jaylon would be the best defensive player in college football next year. Odds of Kelly reaching that are slim

I'm in agreement with everyone else as long as we can guarantee we get him healthy all year.

If that's the case it's not even close.

I think you guys are nuts. You're basically asking if you'd rather have Jaylon for 1 more year, or Jaylon for the next 3-4 years, granted he'd gradually get better. This guy is an elite recruit and talent and runs like a GD deer.

No guarantees of that. One would think that you have been following recruiting long enough to know that much...

How many 5-star front 7 guys have we had not pan out in BKs time? We're also assuming Jaylon stays healthy. Different assumption, but still. I'll take 2-3 years of elite talent vs 1, even if that 1 is marginally better.

Aaron Lynch
Eddie Vanderdoes
Max Redfield
Davonte Neal
Steven Filer
Gunner Kiel
Tee Shepherd
Greg Bryant
Dayne Crist
Ishaq Williams
Ben Councell

I don't really need to keep going do I? These were all highly recruited players that did anywhere from nothing to meh while at ND. So, yes I'd rather take the best LB in the country for next year versus hoping this guy lives up to the hype at ND. With that said, I really like him as a prospect but at this point he's just that, a prospect.

I filtered my QU to ask only about front 7 (IDK if there is that much to to choose from to be honest).

So would you have taken Teo for his senior year or Jaylon for his 3 years if you could go back? That's actually a tough one since Teo got us to the NC.

Not to get another debate started here, but Nyles Morgan lol? Jury is still out on Nyles, but I think he's going to be just fine.

Different question, Jaylon is a better player than Teo was as a Junior and was a better HS prospect than Caleb is right now. Caleb would be 3rd on this list of players coming out of HS.

That's a good call.

Barely. I know it changes year to year but this is a 5-star who's as much a freak athlete as anyone IMO.

Jaylon was the #2 recruit in the country behind only Nkemdiche. 247 has composite rankings back to 2000. Jaylon is THE highest rated LB in their rankings history. Literally a generational talent. There are 5 star linebackers every year but one as gifted as Jaylon is extremely rare.

Teo's senior year had him in the discussion for the Heisman trophy. That year he had a unique combination of tackles and game-impacting interceptions that you seldom see in a linebacker. So based on their best single season, I'd take Manti in 2012. But if you're talking a guaranteed one year for Manti or a guaranteed 3 years for Jaylon, I'd have to opt for the three years of Jaylon. Jaylon had three excellent years, but none with the impact of Manti's 2012 season.

I think you're nuts. Bird in the hand........

First time seeing that clip. That alone should go a long way in helping the decision process. It sends a strong family message to the recruits as it features all of them and not just the starters or leaders of the team.

Yes, Koon is a chronic masterbater, but he has a point about Kelly and multiple years vs. just one. It's all moot, anyway. Jaylon is getting drafted by the Eagles next year.

Well last year we lost power to an alleged fire and locked the Cali kids out in the freezing cold for 20 minutes, nearing frost bite. So they have that to look forward to.

Well thank god for El Niño then. It's 60 degrees and sunny today. Ha
