I'm very curious to see how our lines stack up against theirs. It should be a bloodbath in the trenches, and the definitive litmus test to determine if we are soft or not at those positions.

not confident with just an adams (backed up by dexter) at RB here and even if prosise plays don't think he can/will "prosise" people coming off an ankle injury as an rb.

If it's a high ankle sprain like I thought was reported, he won't be playing. If he does he won't be effective and stands a good chance of making it worse.

that's what I was thinking.

that was the year zibby took the field goal back before half after a couple laterals if I remember correctly right?

Hmmm I don't recall.

If anyone knows feel free.

I looked up the score summary below - but I couldn't find mention of zibby returning a field goal. But looking at the stat summary, ND scored before the half with 0:45 seconds to go so it's possible he had the big return to setup the score.

Scoring Summary
First Quarter
Notre Dame Fighting Irish 7 Jimmy Clausen 2 yard TD run (Brandon Walker Extra Point) 4:57
Stanford Cardinal 7 Anthony Kimble 1 yard TD run (Derek Belch Extra Point) 1:36
Second Quarter
Stanford Cardinal 14 Anthony Kimble 11 yard TD run (Derek Belch Extra Point) 2:54
Notre Dame Fighting Irish 14 Travis Thomas 1 yard TD run (Brandon Walker Extra Point) 0:45
Fourth Quarter
Notre Dame Fighting Irish 21 Robert Hughes 6 yard TD run (Brandon Walker Extra Point) 6:10

Stat of that game:

Notre Dame Missed FG
Player Length
Brandon Walker 44
Stanford Missed FG

Notre Dame dealing with further injury trouble after BC win

Matt Fortuna

Sunday, November 22, 2015 04:22PM

Notre Dame starting cornerback KeiVarae Russell will miss six to eight weeks with a right tibia fracture, coach Brian Kelly said Sunday.

Kelly also said that starting running back C.J. Prosise is doubtful for the No. 4 Fighting Irish's upcoming game at No. 11 Stanford because of a high left ankle sprain.

Both players suffered their injuries in Notre Dame's 19-16 win Saturday over Boston College at Fenway Park.

Russell has started all 11 games this season and is second on the Irish in tackles with 60, including 3.5 for loss. He has two interceptions and two forced fumbles as well. A fourth-year junior, Russell *started all 26 games in his first two years with the Irish, in 2012 and 2013, before missing all of last season as part of an academics-related suspension.

He suffered the fracture late in the fourth quarter when he hit running back Tyler Rouse hard, knocking the ball loose with 70 seconds left.

Kelly said Russell will have surgery Sunday night to insert a rod in his leg, and the coach said it is unlikely that Russell could play again this season any time before a potential national championship game, on Jan. 11.

"He's one of those kids you hate to lose," Kelly said. "He's given so much to the program. We'll have to regroup."

The Irish previously have lost seven players to what Kelly has described as season-ending injuries.

Prosise leads Notre Dame with 1,032 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, in addition to 308 receiving yards and one score. His 57 rushing yards against the Eagles put him over 1,000 yards on the season -- the fourth-quickest player to that mark in school history.

The redshirt junior, * who had converted from wide receiver to running back this spring, had missed the majority of the Irish's previous two games with a concussion before returning Saturday against the Eagles. Prosise was injured whenhis left foot got caught under defensive lineman Connor Wujciak as he was being tackled in the second quarter.

Freshman Josh Adams has filled in for Prosise in the past, tallying 589 rushing yards and four touchdowns. The situation at cornerback is less clear, as Kelly said that junior Devin Butler, sophomore Nick Watkins and freshman Nick Coleman will all get opportunities this week to take over the starting role.

Kelly also said that junior starting linebacker James Onwualu is likely to miss his second straight game because of a second-degree MCL sprain in his left knee, while the coach is optimistic that sophomore defensive tackle Daniel Cage will return this week after missing two straight games with a concussion.

Information from ESPN staff writer Andrea Adelson and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

First, this article pegs both Kei and CJ with the year available to return, which is consistent with everything I have heard. I have also heard that Kei has a shot at grad school if he wants, or should I say will not be excluded.

I have heard nothing else to say Daniel Cage won't be ready. I think Kelly is being cautious, and I wonder how close Jarron Jones is to coming back.

Also :

Will this be the game for real double tight end sets? More often and effectively used?

Who will step up this weekend?

Others have pointed out that Kizer has a nasty way of rebounding, when he feels like he has underperformed. I would bet on that for Saturday.

Will Jaylon Smith spy on McCaffrey all game long? Or will he be used to blitz Hogan? Hogan rattles, and McCaffrey has turned in his least productive performances with a good athlete in his face, all game long.

Bogs, I think it's safe to say not only Kizer, but Mr. Fuller as well, will be looking to bounce back from severe underperformance this past Saturday. A combination of those two being angry with their previous game is not a good sign for an opposing defense. Look for a pissed off duo airing it out all day on the way to victory for the good guys

biggest double edge sword in my mind for game...man because if hogan gets the pass off on a dump to mccaff there isn't a linebacker catching him like smith would.....but as u pointed out, hogan is prone to being rattled....hope BVG makes his money on this one

I really don't think we'll spy Mccaffrey. I think it'd be a bad idea.

If Northwestern presumably the only really good defense Stanford has faced? I don't watch any Pac 12 football.

their lowest scoring in a pac12 game this year is 30 pts vs Wazzu in a game they really should have lost. Leach's offense is terrible in the redzone and this cost him.

How good is Stanford secondary? With C.J. out, air raid may be the way to go. Kizer doesn't get too rattled in the pocket, so if the O-line can give him time, I'm hoping he can shred Stanford's DBs all day.

I'm really hoping we get the tight ends involved this week. short, sit down routes to give Kizer a safe check down. I don't think bombs and WR screens are going to cut it this week, we need long drives to keep Stanfords O in check.

The more points we put up the less they are able to just pound this game out for 4 quarters.

Count me in for some bombs.

Does anything bad ever happen when we launch it to Fuller? It's either a drop, a TD, or a pass interference. I don't think we've had any interceptions.

D Line needs to play 2 gap this week!
Backers need to get to Hogan fast and get him moving
DB's cannot miss ANY tackles and Shumate needs to rock the box

Statistically, NW and Washington are the only defenses on their schedule that are better than ND.

NW - 310 yards per game and 16.8 points per game.
Washington - 353 yards per game and 18.5 points per game
ND - 357 yards per game and 21 points per game.

They have played some awful defenses - Zona, Oregon and Oregon State.

Max too. He was laying some wood on Saturday but he needs to do a better job of wrapping up this week. BC doesn't have the RBs to make him pay but McCaffery sure as hell will.

That would be wonderful, but i refuse to expect anything from him anymore. If he balls out that would be GREAT! After all his disappointments it really bothers me when he gets in on a play and then borderline taunts the opponent...

The whole defense is going to have to play its best game of the year. I hope BVG lets the kids play.

I feel good about this game. For whatever reason we've had nice bounce back performances after a bad showing; GT after Virginia, Navy after Clemson, and Pitt after Temple.

We got the bad game out of the way against bad teams fortunately, and it's about time for the offense to click and look good again this week.
