The announcer bow says they would get in as a 2 loss SEC champ over a 1 loss ND or 1 loss Stanford.

College Football 2015

It's happening again on Dish Network:

Iowa-Maryland is on ABC
Iowa-Maryland is on ESPN2 (instead of them flipping that to Clemson-NC State), and when you click it on that channel, it says (program not available in your area).

WIZARDS WHAT THE FUCK? THIS IS TWO WEEKS IN A ROW THEY HAVE DONE THIS!!!

*talked to two people at Dish, both more or less told me to go pound sand

Same thing happens with my DirecTV, except there is an ESPN alternate channel located right next to ESPN2 that carries the other game. Look around your guide.

100% true... SEC champ, even with two losses will get in over a 1 loss team.. only way they don't get in is if there is 4 undefeated conference champs

I would disagree on that. Depends on who the one loss team or teams are. A team like Iowa or Okie State... maybe. But Stanford, ND, etc... no way.

I have no clue who is announcing this Ole Miss v Auburn game, but the dude just said he'd expect Ole Miss in the playoffs if they win out.........they have 2 losses. He also said they would be in over a 1 loss Alabama and 1 loss LSU being they got to the SEC championship game and won.

I'm pretty sure if Ole Miss wins out they would be the SEC West champ

Gawja is embarrassing. I know Richt has plenty of support but at some point I don't know if his good character is going to save him.

This was supposed to be the year UGA won the east and had a chance at the playoffs. I think Richt has to go after this season.

Just left my optometry appointment. The doctor was a USC grad, and his son a Clemson grad. It was slightly awkward.

And your kids are UM and MSU fans. You have it rough brotha.
To be fair they will pull for ND too. That just comes 2nd. However, I have the 5 year old on the right track. He's all ND.
I'm just worried that he'll e sure my prescription is wrong and I'll be blind. Kidding. Kinda.

I lived in the great state of Georgia for nearly 8 years and I know the routine. UGA will probably run the table and beat some middling B1G team and save Richt's job. Richt has knack for coming up big when his job is on the line. Richt recruits extremely well (although it is very spotty and he only recruits certain positions at differing times well...it is very confusing) and is a "good Christian man" (or at least perceived to be) and that goes a long way in Georgia. A long way.

UGA doesn't really have a strong tradition of elite winning. They have 1 consensus national title and maybe 1 or 2 more that they credit themselves for and that is it. Most UGA are content with beating Auburn, beating Florida a few times a decade, and going to Atlanta a couple times a decade. Do they want more? Yes, but it isn't that hard to do a lot worse than Richt and it is hard to do better. Saban and Meyer don't grow on trees. UGA gets to double digits most years for wins so it is a tricky thing to let him go.

I just want to say though, as a certified UGA hater I hope they never let him go. He has hit that sweet spot for me to where he wins enough to massively inflate UGA fans egos, but he always breaks their hearts in the most delicious fashion with some of the most head scratching calls at the worst times. People like to question BK's calls, but Richt would have been run out of South Bend by an angry mob a long time ago with the decisions he makes sometimes.

I agree with pretty much everything you posted. But the right coach at Ga would be very dangerous. Who that would be is the question I guess. I like what Richt stands for... but man, he has way too much talent to be an afterthought most years.

Is this true? Irish Insanity, you've failed those kids. Someone needs to call child services!

Funny story, my grandparents own a cottage on Lake Erie at Catawba Island. There's a guy that lives on their road that they call "The Mayor." He's a nice enough guy, he's always stopping by checking on everyone's business so he's one of "those" guys, but he's as big a Michigan homer as you've ever met. My grandpa routinely would make a bet each year for a case of beer on the ND/Michigan game, and I think the Mayor would squelch on the bet in years they lost. In any case, the Mayor's daughter ended up marrying an ND grad, and now all their grand kids are Irish fans, much to the Mayor's sadness. It's hilarious.

That gives me an idea. Because I'd seriously consider getting them involved if it could straighten my daughters allegiance to UofM out.

He's the white, college version of Lovie Smith. All the ingredients are there but he can't take them over the top. The right coach could be dangerous but Mark Richt might be the best recruiter in the nation. There's no guarantee that the new guy can recruit like him. Richt is routinely the "most trusted" coach for recruits and their parents. Georgia is a talent rich state so the UGA coach would always do okay, but Richt pulls in a lot of talent, A LOT. UGA doesn't have a blue blood history or winning tradition to fall back on and Athens is okay but nothing to fall in love with.

Former Illinois coach Tim Beckman 'does not believe in hamstring injuries,' disregarded player health

Beckman said he "does not believe in hamstring injuries."
Beckman would call a player "pussy," "sissy" or "soft" when they left to get injury assistance from trainers.
Beckman pressured trainers to prematurely clear players from injuries.
On one occasion, Beckman said, "I don't care if you're hurt, everyone is practicing when we get back. No one cares if you're hurt, I don't care. Your family may care. Northwestern doesn't care."
Beckman got in the way of a potential life-threatening injury: "Two physicians confronted coach Beckman during the 2012 season after a player went down with a potential spinal injury. The sports medicine staff evaluating the player report that they did not want the player to move as they were stabilizing his spine and holding the player's head still, but coach Beckman reportedly inserted himself to tell the player to turn his head to look at coach Beckman so that he could tell the player that he was going to be fine."
Beckman also disregarded concussion protocol: "A team physician recalled taking a player for evaluation who was stumbling around and confused after a big hit in a game, and coach Beckman interjecting before the evaluation was complete stating to the player "hey, you're ready to play, you're okay."

This Week In Schadenfreude, in which Michigan State needs to leave for the ACC - SBNation.com

Some comments this week taken from blogs after their teams lost include:
I feel bad for my son
He is 5 and he already loves Pennstate football. After the wildcat play on the last offensive possession, he turns around and says "I am so sick of Pennstate's Bullsh**!", which I know he picked up from me. My wife starts laughing hysterically, but the only thing i could respond with was "Get used to it buddy, that's what being a Pennstate fan is all about."

For over 55 years, I have been a faithful fan of Aggie Football. Thru thick and thin, I have remained steadfast in my loyalty and support for the coaches and athletes.

How have I been rewarded? Mostly with anguish and disappointment. Every time it feels like we are close, we fold. We are truly the Charlie Brown of major college football. Lucy will always pull the ball away.
(Texas A&M fan)

F*** it
I'm raising my son to be an Alabama fan. He doesn't deserve to ever feel like this
(Ole Miss)

Holy sh** I just screamed so loud I made the dog piss the couch... f***!
(Florida fan after made field goal to win)

Why can't LSU just recruit a cracker with a brain to play Qb?

Btw my 6 and 8 year old boys where crying about the Injustice at the end of the game.
Literally crying. I had to reassure them that everything is going to be okay. (Although I'm not so sure myself)
(Michigan State fan)

Former Illinois coach Tim Beckman 'does not believe in hamstring injuries,' disregarded player health - SBNation.com

Sorry, I couldn't let this one go!

Usually when a mid-major like the University of Toledo has a coach hired away, there is sadness and consternation. Not with Beckman; not at all. Though there was no dancing in the streets, the "Sorry to see you go" sentiment was delivered with remarkably calm demeanor. The calmness turned to whistling and smiles when he was replaced by Matt Campbell. I wouldn't have smiled, had I known what shitstorm the Illini were in store.

From his Wickipedia Article . . .
Timothy David Beckman (born January 19, 1965) is an American football coach and former player. He is the former head football coach at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. He was hired on December 9, 2011, by Illinois athletic director Mike Thomas, after coaching at the University of Toledo for three years.[1]

Toledo[edit]

Beckman's teams at Toledo saw consistent improvement. The 2008 team he inherited went 3–9. In 2009, his first year as a head coach, his team improved to finish 5–7. In the following year, his team finished 8–5, 7–1 in the MAC, earning a berth to the 2010 Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl, which they lost 34–32 to the FIU Golden Panthers. In his final year at Toledo, Coach Beckman finished 9–4, 7–1 in the MAC to be West Division co-champions with Northern Illinois. This team earned a berth to the 2011 Military Bowl. However, Beckman left after the regular season to become the head coach for Illinois.

Illinois[edit]

At Illinois, Beckman went 12–25 in three seasons, and only won four games in Big Ten play. In his third season, the Illini managed to qualify for a bowl with a 6–6 record, but lost 35–18 to Louisiana Tech in the Heart of Dallas Bowl.

On August 28, 2015—just a week before what was to be his fourth season—Beckman was fired after the preliminary results of an internal investigation substantiated accusations of gross player mistreatment. Most seriously, the investigation found that he'd forced players to play through serious injuries and had the medical staff clear these players too soon. [6]

In a statement, Beckman called his ouster a "rush to judgment" that violated the terms of his contract, and stated that he intended to "vigorously defend both my reputation and my legal rights."[7]

Head coaching record[edit]

Toledo Rockets (Mid-American Conference) (2009–2011)
2009 Toledo 5–7 3–5 4th (West)
2010 Toledo 8–5 7–1 2nd (West) L Little Caesars Pizza
2011 Toledo 8–4[n 1] 7–1 T–1st (West)
W Military Bowl
Toledo: 21–16 (17–7)
Illinois Fighting Illini (Big Ten Conference) (2012–2014)
2012 Illinois 2–10 0–8 6th (Leaders)
2013 Illinois 4–8 1–7 5th (Leaders)
2014 Illinois 6–7 3–5 5th (West)
L Heart of Dallas
Illinois: 12–25 (4–20)
Total: 33–41
More than Brady Hoke, this is an example of a coach that met with some success that was pushed way past his highest level of competence, by a program looking to take a shortcut.

But Hoke is an affable Fred Flintstone kind of guy, when Beckman it seems is much more like Skeletor!

You joke, but I just wouldn't be very surprised if a class with these requirements existed and was aimed at athletes...

How about Dabo Sweney? That Clemson team was demolished by injury, NFL, and random off the field issues, and he just chugged along to an undefeated season with some big time wins and a good chance at going 13-0, winning the conference, and being the #1 ranked team.

Hats off to that man. We talk no excuses and he looked every obstacle in the face and whipped and nee-need right past it.
