I think you're both being over the top. Yes, interior Lineman is almost impossible to be great at as a true freshman. But downright disruptive I wouldn't use for any of our DL besides Day this year.
I said "at times." I don't think he's consistently blowing the doors off, but he's had flashes of brilliance amidst some more freshman-ish play.

Let's hope he picks up his play then.

He's ahead of the curve for a true freshman. I think he exhibits the kind of personality and drive that will compel him to work harder than most everyone else, and I think he has a VERY high ceiling. Him picking up his play is not something that I would worry about.

Caught up on the show last night, powered through Clemson, Navy, USC, and bye-week episodes.

1. Where in the hell was Joe Schmidt eating, and how can I find this place and eat a sword's worth of meat?

.

Corndance Tavern in Mishawaka. It's 5 minutes east of campus.

You can't be serious. He's a true freshman and he's been downright disruptive at times in a position that relies (possibly more than any other) on a college strength and conditioning program.

I am serious. kmoose namedropped three of the best college players of all time. Let's see him turn into an AA type before we proclaim him a future legend of the game.

I just said that I hope he turns into a legend like them, not that he reminded me of them. I never compared him to them at all. And I never said that I thought he would become a legend of the game. I said that I hoped he would, because I think he seems to be such a good person.

For fvck's sake.......... have we gotten to the point where we don't even read what people have written, anymore? Where we just read keywords, and fill in the blanks with our own ideas of what someone is saying?

That giant cardboard cutout of Sheldon Day's head on his mom's cubicle wall is the funniest thing I've seen all day.

I plainly remember you saying that Jerry would be a four time 1st team AA, then go on to be All-Pro for 13 seasons while winning six Super Bowls and being inducted to the HoF immediately after retiring. You also said that after football, he would become President and after leaving the oval office would serve as pope for 25 years.

Got to imagine the recruits are digging this program, imagining they could be the next Terry Jillery on TV.

I am actually listening to a local sports show here in Nashville that (for some odd reason) started talking about ND recruiting. May be because of Vanderbilt - why I don't know.

Anyway, their statements included such the like - (paraphrased)

- When the Irish beat Temple Saturday night, the flood gates of recruitment will overwhelm Penn State/Rutgers/Boston College when kids turn away from those programs to go to ND if they academically qualify

- The SEC, specifically the Gators hurt because of the ND presence (recruitment) in Florida

the one I loved the most:

Look out for the Irish in 2016 and 2017..... then a quick snap from Braden Gall from Athlon Sports - there's still 2015 to worry about (irish) them

made me smile :eek:grin:

It was interesting to see Sheldon playing against high schoolers. Although I could have sworn he went to Warren Central, not Lawrence Central.

He did. I was confused when I saw him at LC in the episode. My guess is he went to LC and transferred to WC, or maybe one of his old coaches is at LC now so he stopped by? 247 has him from WC and his pic on scout shows him in his Warren Central uni.

Swarbrick gave an interview about the project with Tim Prister. Some selections:

TP: So you do have some editorial input before it goes on the air?

JS: Not in a sense of, ‘This week’s show will be about…’ We don’t do that. But I can give you a host of things on a weekly basis that we’ll pick up.
Say there’s a shot of a white board in the background with play-call information on it. We’ll say they can’t use that shot. It’s one of my unique preoccupations, but I want our kids in Under Armour. So if a kid’s got the wrong apparel on, I don’t want that shot in there.
And sometimes they just get things wrong. One of the rough cuts this week had a guy identified playing the wrong position. So it’s that kind of stuff. The stories they choose to cover, we don’t play any role in that.

TP: The situation that arose with Ronnie Stanley and being denied captainship that was used as part of a promo. That couldn’t have gone over real well.

JS: No. We were really mad about that because something that was not to be in the show wound up in a promo. That just can’t happen. The (Showtime) crew here wasn’t putting together the promos, which was the essence of the problem.

Notre Dame is very fortunate to have Father John, Brian and Jack. Competing at this level with real students who are athletes is an amazing accomplishment.

It's going to suck when they go to a different school because 1) version 2.0 is likely to be improved, and 2) they'll paint kids at other schools as student-athletes (instead of just athletes) and Notre Dame won't look as unique. Every program can find six guys who know where the library is, they'll get the air time.

I doubt Showtime is interested in producing propaganda pieces for other programs. The series makes us look good because our team is legitimately full of exceptional student-athletes. It would be very different at a football factory.

Here's a snippet from Swarbrick:

It’s been really positive. Very, very positive, and it goes to the reservations I had. The decision to do it for me was about principally one thing, and that was in the national debate that’s going on about college athletics, the level of cynicism that has emerged in this debate and the one-sidedness of it from my perspective, I thought it was really important to have a voice in that discussion through this show. To be able to say, ‘You can be as much of a cynic as you want, but these are real students having this experience at our university.’

“I was very motivated to create for people – not just Notre Dame fans – but people across the country to see this. Every day is another story about something college sports is doing wrong, and I sort of viewed this as almost an obligation we had to tell the other side of the story.”

True, but he also said this:

Scout.com - College Sports, Football Recruiting, NFL, Fantasy Advice & More Front Page

JS: What I hope a lot of people say is, ‘Gee, I wonder how many other programs are like this?’ because there are a lot. There are a lot of schools that are committed to doing this the right way, and if we can get people to understand that, all the better.

We’ve seen that in some of the dynamics in the show with our opponents. Navy is the obvious example, but there is a lot of mutual respect and a lot of guys playing against somebody they knew from high school.
