Show me the video where you see the team's reaction to his screams, cause everyone I've seen they cut it off right at the end of the scream without seeing the players reactions.
I'm not jumping on the bash Joe for no reason tonight bad wagon, but I believe it was the last episode on Showtime where one of the other players was actually poking fun at him about it.

I think that we're making some fairly safe assumptions. As someone said before, the "Joe scream" does absolutely nothing for the team. Zero response. It's just the threshold of Joe's self gratifying leadership facade.

If I'm remembering the Schmidt-Tranquil dinner correctly, Tranquil says he can't wait for the joke this week, and they talk about the scream being followed by falling over. I thought in the previous videos that the scream was awfully contrived and one of those leadership things that are too forced to be genuine. However, that exchange leads me to believe it's more of an inside joke. Needless to say, I have no idea for sure, that's just my read on it.

No, you're not. You're being a presumtpive douchebag. Not everyone likes Joe but I've heard multiple players say something to the effect of him being the "greatest leader ever" and an incredibly genuine guy.

I have seen a few of the players in the locker rooms and the sidelines be like:

Staying on topic --- While I love the Tillery footage, I'd like to see more of the other freshman. As some have suggested, I bet the coaches are advising Showtime on which individuals are mature enough to handle the exposure.

Other players I'd like to get to know more are Fuller, Rochell, Cage, Schumate, and Redfield. We've seen a bunch of Fuller, but it's almost always directly related to his production on the field. Redfield, we have also seen, but he just seems like a pretty fascinating character.

Not saying it's not out there but I haven't seen it. And a few guys being annoyed isn't indicative of him being disliked or a douche. The only thing that I personally have been annoyed with him on is trick shot Monday. But I'm not even close enough to being around him to make a judgement on his character like some are asserting.

This would never, ever be cleared to go on the show... but I think it would be fascinating to get an honest narrative of a player where the academic side of ND doesn't come as naturally. Would be interesting to hear interviews on the administrative support, resources available, and how it's impacting performance on the field.

We all know there are smart dudes like Robinson and Tillery at ND -- haven't seen much classroom footage from guys that are really pushing their limits to get the elite degree.

Nah, I find Joe Schmidt's segments to be unwatchable at this point. I chalk it up to him being from southern California. Something about his charisma is just douchey. He's not the sort of teammate I would have responded well to in my youth.

Yeah that's my read on him, too. While some teammates were having a bonfire and bonding he was having a $39.00 entree with his mom and one teammate. He also seems like the only player who still rolls up his practice jersey for who knows what reason. Seems douchey. But hey, I could be totally wrong and he may be the nicest guy. Just my gut feeling.

Just watched this weeks episode and I really do appreciat this team more every week. I think it's pretty clear they identified some players they would focus more on. I don't get the Schmidt hate, just seems like a decent kid to me. I really enjoy seeing the player-coach interactions and the genuine happiness for Corey.
I really think there are a ton of great kids on this team. Kizer has impressed with his maturity. Liked seeing a bit more of KVR too. I'd also like to see a bit more of Rochell, I get a kick out of his facial expressions. I'm not sure I've seen him blink! Jerry and Day are hysterical too. Great interactions.

My personal top 5 favorite players based solely on the show:

1) Sheldon Day
2) Deshone Kizer
3) Malik Zaire
4) Corey Robinson
5) Terry Jillery

Honorable mention: CJ Prosise (because of the gf)

+1. Least liked for me are Schmidt and Chris Brown.

It kills me to think about the QB situation in the spring. Golson never really spoke to me as a personality so Malik v. Kizer is going to be much more difficult to watch than Malik v. Golson.

This obviously isn't applicable because Schmidt simply is not a good football player, but would all these posts still be made attacking his personality/charisma/etc. if he was productive on the field?

IMO T'eo had plenty of "douchey" qualities too (that I refuse to get into), but he was so damn good, nobody cared.

I don't think so. If you can plug the middle you can roll your shirt up and high five TDJ for all I care. Just win baby.

Good point and I agree with your post. I think a lot of posters realized that about Te'o as well but people didn't bring it up because A) he was freaking amazing and B) Schmidt has way more visibility than Te'o did because of this show and all the various media on the ND website.

I'm not going to hate on Schmidt as a person or a leader, because I clearly don't know him at all. All I will say is that he always seems to be a bit more aware of the cameras than others and it makes a lot of what he does seem phony. Examples of this are the pre-game screams, the Trick Shot Monday videos, and for some reason I thought that shot of him alone in the pouring rain after the loss to Clemson seemed a little bit contrived (especially since there were no teammates nearby and the cameras were all focused on him).

The episode that he was on the sideline phone with the coaches and said "who do I need to 'coach'" rubbed me the wrong way. If anyone needs coached, it's Joe.

I'm also surprised at the complete lack of cursing during games or in the locker room by both the coaches and players. It's probably just great editing by Showtime, but I can't believe Kelly hasn't dropped an eff bomb during a speech.

I think Joe dropped an eff bomb when he rolled into JJ in the first episode.

I guarantee 100% part of the contract we have with showtime is they're not allowed to show certain things... such as cursing.

An example of my point is Kelly's USC halftime speech. The episode showed the majority of it (or at least the beginning when he was fired up) and I am surprised at the restraint Kelly showed after that first half.
