To someone who doesn't partake or read about any of this, how legal is it really? Can you really just be 21 and go buy in these states? Can you buy as much as you want? Can you use it anywhere? In public streets?

You have to be 21. Without a special license, which is really easy to get, you are limited to 1 quarter per transaction.

Duuuude I was so stoked to hear about Oregon legalizing........and then I remembered I wasn't 14.

In the immortal words of Daniel Tosh, "I think we should legalize marijuana in this country. Just so potheads have nothing to talk about ever again."

I was in Seattle back in April or so and my legal weed purchase was 32% THC Gorilla Glue.

It was nice.

Very nice. I've never had it but those I talk to say it has taken over most gardens, it's potency is unmatched and it still yields like a cash cropper.

Ha ha, somewhat agreed although it's still relatively new so those of us who do partake are excited to finally not feel like criminal for using a relatively innocuous substance. I will be happy when the discussion doesn't revolve around it being illegal.

Similar to alcohol you can't use it and drive. You also can't use it in public. So you can't walk down the street and smoke.

People think in Amsterdam you can walk down the street anywhere and smoke. You actually can't. There are designated areas in the city where you can smoke.

Can you use it in restaurants/coffee shops that allow it? I'd imaging there'd be a big desire to use it in coffee shops. Or is it "do it at home, don't let us see you, and it's ok" only?

No coffee shops or smoke bars. Mostly the latter of your post. But again it's legal to have on your person or in your car you just can't use it in public.

I can see it now. Koon deciding whether to buy windows for his new house or take a road trip to Oregon! lol

A road trip is a trip - on the road (again).

I've not stayed current with the No, Medicinal and Recreational states. I do know that MN now (with beaucoups restrictions/hurdles/oversight) allows medicinal use with scrutinized prescriptions.

Perhaps Mssr Koon could claim glaucoma, get a scrip and save the time and expense of a road trip to upgrade the windows and hire someone to check out his crawl space ... though I find it hard to imagine a "crawl Space" with a "Regular Door."

Is it a "Regular" Hobbit Door?

No matter. Head for Denver. A shorter drive. Less time, less gas; much more eco-friendly.

I'm in favor of legalization though I have never and will never indulge. Just not my cup of tea. But what has always annoyed me are those people that have to put it in your face that they smoke weed a lot. It just comes off brash and arrogant.

Just my $.02

I don't like the law but I understand it and I guess that i agree with it. I just feel that we americans no longer take pride in enduring anything. This doesn't make us stronger. We need to feel good all the time. God forbid we don't feel happy all the time. But we like to bitch about how entitled kids are today. We suck.

BTW...i have taken a hit when it's going around the room.

I just don't see it as any worse than booze. Would rather take the criminal element out of it, and tax it. I'm not a big smoker, but enjoy a few times a year when travelling. In addition, In my 45 years, I've never made a bone headed decision when smoking. Can't say the same about booze lol.

I don't think I understood the gist of your post. What does enduring have to do with marijuana legalization? Can someone who ingests marijuana still endure, become stronger, work hard and succeed? Are people entitled for wanting to enjoy a substance in their downtime that is less harmful than alcohol? Personally, I've never enjoyed alcohol the way I enjoyed marijuana. As a hard-working father & husband, I believe it should be within my rights to responsibly use marijuana.

Is there something I'm losing because of this belief?

This probably hasn't made the headlines down is the US, the Canadian federal election is happening this month and there has been a debate on legalizing marijuana. Our current Prime Minister thinks marijuana is "infinitely worse than tobacco." I don't care for weed all that much but am completely behind the movement to legalize it. Hopefully with a change in leadership that will happen.

It is tough to see all these states legalizing it or at least putting it to a vote

I thought Americans were for freedom as well. Freedom of choice. It's interesting that many of the same people who argue gun laws don't work (criminals will get guns anyway) are against legalization. Seems like the same rationalization could apply.

When I was younger (18 or so) it was much harder to get alcohol than weed. Drug dealers never asked for ID. I find it hard to see how someone could be in favor of legal alcohol consumption but not marijuana. I've never heard any compelling arguments.

For he record I've not had any in 15 years or so.

Thinking he went all in the other day on that Obama Kush, and is too paranoid to turn his laptop on.

Portland, Oregon has more dispensaries of herb than Starbucks or liquor stores.

True story. I'm going to make you google it though.

It will be interesting to see how many close because they couldn't compete with other stores.

Yep. That's what we've seen in Denver so far. Not to mention the manufacturing has started to be split between industrial space and outdoor greenhouses. Monster cut in expenses if you can remove the need for lights, air movement, etc. Buy the land, set-up a greenhouse and harvest a monster crop every year. Keep a small industrial space to fill in the gaps year round and run some extra "top shelf" stuff.

For those entrepreneurial types in Portland............

Why not combine two of the more "questionable" industries in the state? Open a strip club/marijuana farm. The girls can work in the fields during the day, staying active and in shape, and getting plenty of sun on the 5 days a year that it is out. Then they can dance at night. Win-Win!!
