ND offer last month.

Per Scout, ND a likely OV this fall

13 CB's to Ohio State including Wiltfong back in March

BUT

The Editor at Bucknuts went cloudy on his CB a few weeks ago.

Going to OV at UCLA and Oregon plus it looks like ND, OSU and Florida right now are the other 3.

Scout: Hansford high on Irish

BEAVERTON, Ore. – Three-star Aaron Hansford ranked among the top outside linebackers at The Opening and remains one of Notre Dame’s top prospects.

BEAVERTON, Ore. – The Opening let more than 160 of the nation’s top prospects test themselves against elite competition. Three-star outside linebacker Aaron Hansford shined in that spotlight with a pair of interceptions and inclusion in The Opening’s all-tournament team. He also picked up positive feedback from coach Chris Gizzi, a former NFL linebacker.

Hansford helped his Superbad team into the 7-on-7 semifinals.

“My confidence is through the roof right now,” said Hansford, a 6-foot-2, 210-pounder from St. John’s College High School in Washington D.C. “It really is up there. I can’t wait to get back to St. John’s and ball out and try to win a championship.”

“I learned a lot. Coach Chris Gizzi taught me a lot at the outside linebacker and the Mike position that I didn’t know. I kind of cleaned up my weaknesses of looking at the quarterback and looking more at my man and playing your zone and stuff. He taught me a lot and what he taught me helped me get those interceptions. I can’t complain.”

Matching up against the nation’s top prospects challenged Hansford to improve his own game.

“It was great competition and showed me the level it will be when I get to college. I had a lot of fun here,” he said. “I did pretty good against the matchups here. I got two interceptions on (Thursday) and I played some lock down at outside linebacker against the tight ends and wide receivers. I think I matched up well and can’t wait to get to college.”

Where he’ll play his college ball should become clearer in the next several weeks.

Hansford, who holds offers from Ohio State, Oregon, Notre Dame, Georgia, UCLA, Penn State and several others, hopes to identify a top 10 soon.

“I know Ohio State will be on that list and Penn State will be on that list,” he said. “I know Oregon, UCLA, Florida and I know Notre Dame and some other schools out there like Maryland and some others.”

Notre Dame assistant Scott Booker has remained in close contact with Hansford, who also has had some regular communication with Irish head coach Brian Kelly.

“They said they’d use me as a field backer or outside linebacker that covers slots and gets the majority of the field to play in space more,” Hansford said. “That position has a lot of speed and athletic ability and they see me at that position.”

The Irish have something else going for them as well.

Hansford’s father is a lifelong Notre Dame fan and the two are eager to visit South Bend.

“I love the academics at Notre Dame and the tradition of football,” Hansford said. “My dad is a big Rudy fan. When I was a little kid we’d watch that movie every day. I promise you every day we watched that movie. I’d like to go out for a visit up at Notre Dame. I’ve never been to South Bend, Indiana before. It will be a good experience for me.”

Scout.com ranks Hansford as the 35th best outside linebacker in the country.

I love student athletes that love Notre Dame. This kid would leave it all on the field.

Aaron is a prospect that I have a much greater appreciation for after the Opening. Not only did he blow up some of the combine numbers he just moves so well in 7 on 7 play. Fairly hard for LB's to impact those game but he was able to. Liked his junior tape but I have bigger expectations for him going forward. Probably more like a top 10-15 LB.

Have a hard time believing this guy could have made the semifinals in the 100m at the 2012 Olympics.

Regardless, do want.

In person, he is really thin, like really thin. Good prospect, but weight would be a concern on his end.

6-2, 210......excelling against the pass at the Opening 7v7 as a LB......runs a verified 4.47

Sounds more like an NFL Safety. A fast NFL safety.

247 raised his rating to 91 and the #23 OLB, #260 OA from an 88 / #32 / #416

Rivals moved him up to the #19 OLB from #38.

I'm with Lucky, I bet he ends up around #15. If you have to chose, who do you want: Him or Jonathan Jones? I like Hansford long term. I think Jones could see the field quicker but is there an immediate need at OLB from the class of '16? Plus, 4.47 (if legit) isn't something you get in the weight room your redshirt year.

He's no thinner or skinnier than Asmar Bilal was. In fact at the same points in their careers he's 5 lbs. heavier. He's a long extremely athletic kid that could play a 4-3 OLB role at 230+, I have no doubt in my mind about that.

When Washington (D.C.) St. John's College High four-star linebacker Aaron Hansford arrives at Notre Dame this weekend for his official visit, he'll step foot on campus with more than just a general idea of what he wants in a school.

Hansford, who was offered by the Irish back in June, has a checklist of what he's looking for at the next level, and based on a quick conversation with his father, it appears that Notre Dame could be a program that's more than just a fit for the family.

"We want him to have an opportunity to chase his dreams and get the best education that he could possibly have to go along with the best football experience that he could possibly have," Hansford's father, Adam Hansford, told Blue & Gold Illustrated on Tuesday.

"We definitely believe going into this with Notre Dame that they are a first class institution and we just are looking forward to learning more about them on the visit."

While strong academics and strong football program might seem like somewhat of a given for a prospect that's also considering Duke, Oregon, Ohio State, Michigan State, Penn State and Maryland, there's more to it than just that, and that's why the family is headed to South Bend to see the Irish face Georgia Tech.

"I think one of the most important things for us, is that every school is different," Adam Hansford said. "Academically, it's about what they have for the kids, because they have so much to balance with school and sport. It's a lot of demand. But the most important thing is we want him to be surrounded by good people and that he has the opportunity to really do well in the classroom as he prepares for his life."

Notre Dame, traditionally, has placed a strong emphasis on academics, and Adam Hansford noted that as one of the reasons why his son is excited to see what type of support staff is in place. But the course load isn't the only draw to the program. The lure of playing for a storied school like Notre Dame is a factor, as well.

"Aaron wants to be part of a program that's pursuing national championships, pursuing BCS bowl games, and are in the running to be the nation's best, because that's what he wants to bring to the table," Adam Hansford said.

"He wants to contribute to something that's legendary, and we know that Notre Dame offers that."

But so do some of the other schools chasing Hansford, and that's what makes this weekend's visit more than just important.

Notre Dame is set to return just six scholarship linebackers next season, should junior Jaylon Smith declare for the NFL Draft, which means depth will be at a premium in the middle of the defense. Hansford is a prospect that's near the top of the board at linebacker, and given his desire to find a school that is sound in both academics and football, he's a priority.

"We're not in a hurry," Adam Hansford said when asked about a possible timeline. "We want to take our time with this, because it's the most important decision at this stage in Aaron's life that he's going to make. This is a half million dollar decision in terms of the quality of his education because it's going to set him up for the rest of his life.

"We want to do this right the first time," he added. "We don't want to have any regrets or any remorse later that we didn't look throughly at things and consider all the options for him. Right now it's all about positioning him to have great success, and I'm not going to rush that process. When we feel like it's time for him to make a commitment — whether that be in a month or sometime in January — we'll know when the time is right."

The 6-2, 210-pound Hansford is an Under Armour All-American and is ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 14 outside linebacker in the country and the No. 148 prospect in the nation. He took an official visit to Michigan State this past weekend and also plans to see Oregon at some point during the process.

"I can just tell you as a parent, this is a great honor," Adam Hansford said. "We're really grateful that Notre Dame has offered Aaron and wants him to be a part of the program. We're thankful that they want use to visit and we're anticipating a great experience."

See this is the garbage that gets me. "Academics is a must" yet he is visiting a garbage academic school like Mich St, where you only go if Mich wont let you in. Oregon? Really? Sounds like this is about football and not academics. So why even spout this crap?

#14 OLB shouldnt be planning a pro career but how he can prepare for life after college. If academics are a big deal, I would think they would have mentioned Stanford, Vandy, etc not those two garbage academic schools.

scUM will let anyone in if they play football well...it doesn't matter if they have anything going for them academically or if they commit crimes before or during their time in AA...that school has a history of letting players slide...your line may apply to regular students (or at least that is what UM students always say), but does not to apply athletes at all

Just hadn't heard much about him and thought other guys might be higher on the board.

Guys like Caleb Kelly are probably higher but this is a really good prospect, IMO. A lot has been made about his weight but our current SAM (JO) was 205 when he was a senior and Aaron is currently 209. I have no doubt that he can get to 230+. Like Pandfan said he's a really fast LB but most importantly was what he looked like in coverage at the Opening. I saw some of the recruiting guys say that he was the best coverage LB since Jaylon Smith in that setting.

to piggy back this...i read somewhere that he was able to go toe to toe w/ the fastest and most athletic wr's/rb's at the opening and had NO ISSUES and locked people down

So why isn't he rated higher? Recruiting ratings are funky.

I wouldn't put too much stock in rankings, he's a solid 4 star prospect. Again some concerns over weight and frame. I think Rivals was the only site that actually changed their rankings of him post Opening. So, I think some are behind on this. Regardless, solid 4 star prospect is pretty darn good. Basically saying that there are only 20ish better OLB's in the entire country is, again, pretty darn good.

Also, the ratings above aren't accurate. He's #148 overall and #14 OLB. At 247 he is #262 overall and #22 OLB.
