Well, remember ND is not out of the clear with their academic fraud matter. I think the NCAA is assessing weather ND was at fault with benefits and using ineligible players that some have said could even lead to forfeits.
Way too early to be hanging Barnes without many facts known. The Vols have had lots of issues with previous BB players and coaches.

How quickly we forget lol. Hope Tenn doesn't have to go through another basketball issue. IMO the previous penalties were crazy compared to some of the other shit going down, and other penalties handed out.

ND is absolutely at risk of sanctions because the student at the center of it collected a paycheck from the school for part of the time making her technically an employee which could mean that her cheating on school work could, in a roundabout way, be considered an "extra benefit" provided by a "school representative."

We have a Longhorns fan here?

I'm quite familiar with Bruce Pearl and the Vols. That's one reason I was surprised they hired Barnes. Don't ask me to quote, but I remember hearing rumblings about Barnes character for a number of years.

So what you're all saying is as soon as ND starts out rollin thru the schedule magically the NCAA will come down with sanctions to keep us from the playoffs.

.... I can see it now, Malik becomes the guy in cfb... Greg becomes the best RB in Cfb... Multiple guys step up on defense,... ND goes 12-0 with the best average margin of victory in the country, everyone, even the regular haters buy in.... Then the hammer drops, we are forced to stay home, everyone goes pro,... .....

Seeing the NCAA has been sitting on UNC's academic scandal for a decade, which is far more egregious than anything another school could even attempt to replicate, I wouldn't be too worried, and 12-0 with a cloud or no could would be sweet.

I think the Miami scandal was way bigger. The NCAA's treatment of that was the biggest joke of them all.

NCAA justice is, if anything, unevenly applied.

EDIT: Holy crap the autocorrect, batman.

Concerned...

ND always seems to try and do the right thing. It seems the administration does not try and manipulate facts, nor threaten to fight decisions, or leak selected tidbits to the press to turn the public in their favor.

I think the NCAA is desperate to make a statement in an attempt to reclaim some semblance of an image of competency and control.

ND's "pliability" and the NCAA's desperation, and seemingly random application of enforcement are a little unnerving to me.

Not necessarily a Longhorns "fan", but I am pretty familiar with them since I live in Dallas. I was just trying to point out a couple things....first, ND still has its own issue related to possible academic fraud, and second, it's pretty early to jump at conclusions about Rick Barnes. Not defending him, but there seem to be lots of other "suspects" out there that seem to just click along in both FB and BB.
And, of course, Tennessee has a recent major issue that has left some pretty nasty scars.

Occasionally outspoken former Texas Longhorns quarterback Chris Simms made headlines on Thursday when he admitted to receiving improper benefits when he was a player.

In an appearance as the co-host of a CBSSports radio show, Simms dropped the following:

"They didn't pay me, but there may have been cash going around to some other players," said Simms. "I'm not going to deny that. I may have gotten a few $100 handshakes every now and then to sign some autographs for alumni.

"I don't care how rich your upbringing was. Yes, I grew up with a silver spoon, but if you give me a few extra $100 as a college kid, that's great."

I imagine those $100 handshakes go on everywhere, even ND. Pretty difficult for any school to keep alumni and others from hooking up players.

There's plenty of shenanigans going on all over, no argument there, but it reads like you're justifying this because "other" schools/coaches do it or have done it. Doesn't make it any less wrong.

No, you are interpreting wrong. I live in Dallas, so I do know a bit about Barnes/UT because they obviously are the 800 pound elephant. Not a 'horns fan, but would root for them over TAMU. I guess part of what I was trying to say was that in all his years at UT, Barnes never struck me as a slick Willie type. He produced some pretty good teams and was really hurt by great players coming in and playing one or two years and then leaving. Time will tell, as it usually does.
