Read what he said about them about a month or so ago. Kid is serious. They have really recruited him well. While I do not expect him to end up there personally, he really thinks highly of the coaching staff there.

Glad we got rid of Coach Alford and can finally land FL kids.

All kidding aside, it's amazing how ND loses one of it's best FL recruiters but has been doing really well in that state this cycle. Perhaps Coach laid some amazing groundwork? Or maybe the new guys are just flat out killing it. (Helps have HH on our side for OL guys obviously).

In my opinion, it's the latter. I've said it before, and it may sound pompous, but I believe it to be true.

Notre Dame should be one of the easiest schools to pitch. Sure, you aren't going to get every kid and a bunch wont be academically accepted. But that is a small part of recruiting if you are a coach at Notre Dame.

We have the capabilities and message that almost no school has. We graduate more kids with better degrees that land the best jobs. We play on the highest level of the game and if you are an NFL talent, it will be impossible to be overlooked. Simply put... recruiting at Notre Dame is a numbers game.

The best salespeople aren't the "people person" or "shit-talkers" that most assume. They are the ones with the best time/task management that also understand their pipeline numbers. If you're the worst recruiter in the world and only land 1 out of 100 kids you pursue. Then the way you beat out the savvy coach that lands 3 out of 10 is simple.... talk to 301 players for every 10 players Coach Savvy does. Sales is about knowing your product, understanding your "close rate" and working hard.

Notre Dame has an elite product. Any smart and hardworking coach has no excuse but to recruit at a high level here. They are selling a superior product with the capabilities to easily get in front of more recruits if needed. If they are not landing good classes, it's simply because they don't work hard enough for their particular skill set.

In regards to FL - It's possible that it's all of the above. Coach Alford is very well-respected. I'm sure he built some great relationships. And like you said, ND is an easy sell. Guys like Denson, etc seem to be following in his footsteps. I'm pumped about that.

If I'm recruiting Parker my football angle is.... Clemson shot their load last year and had a once in a program OL haul. Do you want to be behind that and be known as "I thought you were in that class with Hyatt, Fruhmorgan and Green" for the rest of your life or do you want to be in an equally powerfal haul at the best OL program in the country that is, lucky for you, following a light year where the two major recruits we landed were the nation's best center and an OT that flipped to defense. It really is the perfect year to go Irish, especially for a guy who's gonna be a nasty guard at the next two levels.

The more I see this guy, the more he rises up my list. I've NEVER seen the guy smile - LOVE that! Dude looks like a cross between Richie Incognito and the "rich Biff" from Back 2 the Future. Nasty rotten, everybody needs a Conrad Dobler guy on their O line.

Alford was a very good recruiter, perhaps a tad overrated, but good nonetheless. Worked hard, sold ND really well, etc. Wasn't organized enough to be a great recruiting coordinator though.

Anyway, to your point, ND sells itself, and having someone like Autry is simply outstanding for that region. It's why I laughed when a since-banned-for-6-months unnamed member immediately (and typically) overreacted and declared that ND needed to fire Denbrock immediately and promote Alford to offensive coordinator, or else we were done LOL (ah, good times). Denson is doing the damn thing, as the youths say...

Possible, but it's no coincidence that hard working, young coaches come to Notre Dame and immediately become good recruiters. Guys like Alford, Denson and Lyght have a lot of tools in their belt, but the best one is a tenacity for getting after it. That is a trait that cannot be replaced with snake oil.

Yeah. That brings me to another point, which is a little off topic, but connects well. Great salespeople don't automatically translate to good managers. They are usually great with personal time/task management and have refined their approach. But TEACHING others to do so is an entirely different skill set (as I know you understand first hand). I think that was Alford's issue, managing a staff and leading them in a unified strategy was something he struggled with. But it was the first time he did it and i'm sure he learned a lot. It will certainly benefit him in the future. A future coaching A-lister, imo.
