"Notre Dame has great academics, which is what I'm looking for in a school and it also has great football. We have some alum from [Kingswood Oxford] that go to there right now, and it seems like a great place to be," Quansah said.

"It's just a humbling feeling knowing that I have the opportunity to attend a prestigious academic school, while leading [defensive coordinator] Brian VanGorder's defense to the playoffs."

born in Ghana. He scored a 1390 on his SAT a few months ago (He said he's retaking because he thinks he can score higher)and also holds offers from Duke, Wisconsin, Harvard, Yale, Boston College, Michigan, Northwestern and Vanderbilt

He says that one of his teachers/coaches has family in the area and is willing to drive him up for a weekend. If that doesn't workout, he wants to take an official.

wow if that ain't a slam dunk for a commitment idk what is.

He might be a "Smarty Jones". That's a kid who skips where he fits athletically to go play at a greater academic school. Usually that kid goes to Northwestern, Rice, Vandy or Duke (football only obviously) But when Harvard and Yale are listed, you have to keep an eye on those 1400+ (old scoring) players.

LOL, we got beat out by Duke...wow.

He had plans to visit Duke before ND even offered. He's a high academic kid and Duke has always been at the top of his recruitment.

Simple, he visited Duke and we waited to long to offer.

One thing I've noticed about this staff that bothers me is the timing of offers. A lot of times, if they feel they hold the upper hand early in the recruitment and if they offered a commitment would be almost immediate, they wait.....and wait. It happens year after year and we end up losing recruits we shouldve had early in the cycle. The bigger and better fish deal has got to be balanced out better IMO.

straight from Coach D...He was never a "lean" to Notre Dame despite what else was put out there. Quansah didn't have a commitable offer, despite reports of him "leaning" to Notre Dame.

They wanted him to visit, like they want about 15 other LB's to visit. But he isn't in the top part of the ND board right now. So this isn't a "loss" and if ND wants him in 3 or 4 months and actually makes a push, which they didn't do, they can get him.

Just because he has an ND offer, doesn't mean he is an immediate take this year, does it?

Earlier in this thread, some commented that he was too slow. Others had similar criticisms related to his athleticism.

I have no idea whether this kid is the next LT or not. No idea whatsoever.

But I find it interesting that with the blinding speed ND has been successfully recruiting, (or building,) at linebacker [hyperbole is mine] that we would throwdown the cards and invite a kid that was reminiscent of the average speed of a Weis linebacker. [Note : nothing against anyone that played for the Irish, but there has been the most massive of transitions at that position, from the days of Ty through the tenure of Diaco.]

In other words, and feel free to correct me; but isn't the line currently blurred between strong safety and linebacker? Don't we have kids recruited at wide receiver and safety playing linebacker? And don't we have a few kids clearly recruited as linebackers rumored to be slotted for a shot at safety?

Look, this is a good kid, with a goal. He made the choice he felt best for him. I wish him the best, and hope Duke beats everyone on their future schedule instead of the Irish.

And on the flip side, I really tend to trust this staff and their recruiting, they are getting what the Irish need :

  • Incredibly solid offensive linemen, class after class.
  • Skill players that fit the "system" more than ever, and more than not.
  • More kids with a better mental makeup for the challenges of ND, (higher rate than earlier classes.)
  • Speed.
  • Particularly "big skill," and "skill" kids with incredible versatility, [the rate has really jumped since Onwualu and Prosise.]
  • Tall receivers and "more length" at many important positions.
  • The ability to accurately judge, and fill at positions of need.

After all, this kid is playing a position that was thin when Diaco was here, but has talent on the bench that would start at a lot of other programs.
