Just because he has an ND offer, doesn't mean he is an immediate take this year, does it?
Earlier in this thread, some commented that he was too slow. Others had similar criticisms related to his athleticism.
I have no idea whether this kid is the next LT or not. No idea whatsoever.
But I find it interesting that with the blinding speed ND has been successfully recruiting, (or building,) at linebacker [hyperbole is mine] that we would throwdown the cards and invite a kid that was reminiscent of the average speed of a Weis linebacker. [Note : nothing against anyone that played for the Irish, but there has been the most massive of transitions at that position, from the days of Ty through the tenure of Diaco.]
In other words, and feel free to correct me; but isn't the line currently blurred between strong safety and linebacker? Don't we have kids recruited at wide receiver and safety playing linebacker? And don't we have a few kids clearly recruited as linebackers rumored to be slotted for a shot at safety?
Look, this is a good kid, with a goal. He made the choice he felt best for him. I wish him the best, and hope Duke beats everyone on their future schedule instead of the Irish.
And on the flip side, I really tend to trust this staff and their recruiting, they are getting what the Irish need :
- Incredibly solid offensive linemen, class after class.
- Skill players that fit the "system" more than ever, and more than not.
- More kids with a better mental makeup for the challenges of ND, (higher rate than earlier classes.)
- Speed.
- Particularly "big skill," and "skill" kids with incredible versatility, [the rate has really jumped since Onwualu and Prosise.]
- Tall receivers and "more length" at many important positions.
- The ability to accurately judge, and fill at positions of need.
After all, this kid is playing a position that was thin when Diaco was here, but has talent on the bench that would start at a lot of other programs.
