Oh I'm kidding, I love TES, too. Played since Morrowind and the only reason I didn't play Daggerfall was because it was so buggy. They're huge and there's so much to explore, I love it.

But, man, Fallout, especially the 1st 2 and kind of New Vegas, they are just about perfect to me. Love almost everything about them.

I have a deep dark secret.... I never played any fall out games until Fall out 3.... and I never even beat it... But i did enjoy what I played. I'm just not dedicated to this series like i am with others, so thats why, i guess...,im just not that hype on this trailer.

Some here may appreciate Fallout 4 as a "new shiny thing" in the gaming world. Some may not be into the whole post-apocalyptic nuclear wasteland theme. That's perfectly fine.

The reason some of us are literally geeking out over this is because the Fallout games were analogous to Duke Nukem in that anticipation has lasted years (without the shitty games). Those of us that played Fallout (1997) and Fallout 2 (1998) were immersed in a landscape of imagination when games were very simple, yet we found a world to freely explore with questionable morality at best. It was unprecedented. Combined with a fondness for the 1950's-esk style, it's a charming World's Fair gone horribly, horribly wrong set to the tone of early vinyl recordings.

I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea, but if you ever made it back to Vault 13, you'd understand.

War never changes...

I've only ever played New Vegas (been meaning to play Fallout 3....just such a time commitment), but can't wait for Fallout 4. The layout of Boston I think will make the game pretty awesome, too.

I played Fallout 3 for a total of 20 minutes, and I'm excited for this game lol.

Very well-made trailer.

Check out New Vegas, I think it plays more like the original games than 3 did, at least as far as giving you more options in how to complete quests and the old Interplay style of humor and Easter Eggs.

I knew that there was a reason that I liked you.

I just want the next Elder Scrolls game.

pkt, just when I think you're awesome, you go and do something like this and disappoint me  I love Elder Scrolls as much as about anyone, but Fallout was kind of unique in it's setting and style. Some games have tried to copy it since, but none have been as successful or as awesome. Lots of people do swords and magic fantasy like Elder Scrolls, and Bethesda does it better than just about anyone, but nobody else does Fallout.

F you guys, how about that?

FO 1 and 2 are the best games ever made. Do not shit on my beloved Fallout.

Amen, very well put. I've been absolutely hooked on Fallout since I first played a demo of 1 that came with a PC Gamer magazine back in the day. I played the demo to death, and most of the demos on the disks back in those days did nothing for me. It was like stepping into a whole new world, like finding out about Star Wars for the first time. Every game is a little different, but they're all like your children. You love each one differently (Except Brotherhood of Steel on the consoles...that bastard is a red headed stepchild of awful imo and is Fallout in name only). I'd never played a game before that allowed you to make decisions, for good or for bad, that could affect an entire population like that. Anyone was fair game for death, and you played judge, jury, and executioner. There is only one Fallout, and this is a happy time.

I've only ever played New Vegas (been meaning to play Fallout 3....just such a time commitment), but can't wait for Fallout 4. The layout of Boston I think will make the game pretty awesome, too.

3 is good, but Bethesda didn't do a great job fleshing out the evil options and the neutral options for completing quests like they did for New Vegas. With some quests there's only one way to complete it, which was a bit disappointing. There's certainly some explosive finishes to being bad in that game though and an evil run through is worth it.

As far as the trailer and Boston itself, it's got too much color! I kid. I am a bit surprised there's so many buildings, I expected a big town like Baaah-stin to be flattened a bit more. I'm psyched to see what's going on with the Commonwealth though and all those androids (You learn about them in a mission from Fallout 3). Totally psyched.

And now comes the inevitable wait to see the system requirements. I'm convinced the teaser was all in game engine rendering, which showed a lot of ground effects and a TON of shadowing; which is GPU intensive.

Just like buying a Playstation for FFVII and Grand Turismo, a lot of serious gamers base their hardware decisions on the games that are released and their maximum settings.

I want to be fully immersed. Curious what that will entail. Don't want to be short-changed when I put on my next set of Power Armor.

Not to mention you're going to want to overkill a bit on what is required because within a month some insane visual mods will no doubt be out.

Yup, might have to go get a 2nd card now and go SLI, then upgrade the RAM as we previously discussed on the last page

I'd love a conversation about how our rigs may fare with Fallout 4, but for the unacquainted, I present a preamble:

2, imo. It was so damn entertaining. Combat was great, it had humor, good storyline, great companions and dialogue, it's just hard to beat. Obviously it's not going to stand up graphically to the newer games, but for me graphics are always icing on the cake. If you don't have the other stuff the game won't be enjoyable. That's why I can still play stuff like TIE Fighter to this day, it was just a well put together game that stands up over time.

3 was good, but I think it gets a lot of love because it exposed a brand new, younger generation to Fallout that never got to play the first games, and so it became nostalgic for them. It was missing something that the old games had imo, and the replay value just wasn't as high. I replay FO: 2 and FO: New Vegas regularly just because you can, there's so many options and different ways to complete objectives. New Vegas just felt more like the old Interplay games in the storyline, the characters, and the humor which is why I prefer it to 3. All great games though.

On a slightly related note... One things I really liked about GTA 5 (Which isn't my fav open world game by any means) is that is was truly open world, you don't have to play through 'stages' to open up parts of the map... That bugged me more about Fallout 3 than any other game for some reason...

Wha? You have to go through the tutorial in the Vault and can't leave till that's over, but where are you prevented from going to after that? The whole map is open once you leave the Vault. You can start the DLC content at any time and level after that (Although some may be pretty tough at low levels). I can't think of anywhere that you're not allowed to go, it's an open world.

Really hoping for a 2015 release date. Would be wonderful if they could release on October 23rd since that's the day the bombs fell in the Fallout universe.

It's been a couple years but there's a part where you can't get to the capital until you go through a certain building that sits behind a battle between soldiers and mutants... then you have to go through all the garbage in the building... just for one example, Another would be walking miles (in game) to get to a location only to find the route you were taking is blocked and you have to double back and hope you don't take ANOTHER blocked path, this was mostly in the city off memory.. . Also, there were so few routes to get to certain areas. There were many quests and side quests that I just wasn't interested in and when you were forced to play part of it to go here or there it bugged me.

There are other ways to get to or through the Capitol. Because of all the devastation you have to use the subway systems to get around DC proper, but none of them bar you from getting from one location to the next, they're all open. Of course once you've been to a location for the first time you don't have to use the subway anymore as you can fast travel to that location, same as Elder Scrolls. You can also fight through that battle between Talon Company and the Super Mutants outside the Capitol. It's actually pretty fun imo, one of my favorite parts of 3 as you can pick off members of the group as they fight each other. The Super Mutants and Talon Company will continue to fight until you kill them anyway, so that's the intention. If you want to avoid the fight, however, you can actually take the subway to reach the other end of the Capitol building.

I will admit that I wasn't a big fan of having to traverse the subways to get around DC on the first go, but it also forces you into a dark, seedy place infested with ghouls...and that's always fun.

I liked Skyrim's or GTA 5's (especially) take on 'open world'... this topic would be one of the few things I didn't like about Red Dead, which all things considered is still my fav game ever.

I'm tellin' ya, Bethesda treats Fallout no different than their Elder Scrolls games when it comes to open world, they're exactly the same. You're not prevented from going anywhere you want to go. There's no hidden continent or anything that's blocked off until you meet a certain requirement. There's one place that is completely locked up until you reach a certain part of the story and that's Raven Rock, but that's no different than Skyrim that prevents you from getting to that final battle in the clouds/afterlife with Alduin until you can ride that dragon.

I feel like I'm harping here, but only because it pains me to think you may not have given Fallout a fair shake and it's affecting your opinion.

Alright fellow nerds, I've got a hardware question:

I have an Xbox One, and I'm beginning to run out of memory. Because I'm stubborn, I don't want to have to uninstall/reinstall games when I want to play new stuff. I'd rather buy an external hard drive that I can leave plugged in next to my XB1.

Here's the newest version of the hard drive that I keep seeing when I search for info on XB1/external storage: Amazon.com: Seagate Expansion 5TB Desktop External Hard Drive USB 3.0 (STEB5000100): Computers & Accessories

It's shown up in most of the YouTube vids, listicles, and true articles that I've found as reliable.

My questions:
-Does anyone have experience with this?
-How much difference does RPM make if I plan on running games from the hard drive, and is it normal for that info to not be available on the product specs page?
-Do any of you have general input on if this is a good hard drive, or perhaps other hard drives that I should look at?

I have a friend who is dumping his XBOX for $90, all games included, Max Payne, Battlefront, a ton of star wars games I didn't even know existed... CODs... I'm considering purchasing it but IO really don't know if I will play it that much... thoughts for more hardcore gamers??

One thing to keep in mind is whether you need a desktop hard drive or the smaller, 2.5" laptop size hard drive. I know for my PS3 I needed the 2.5" one with a SATA connection. I don't know anything about X-Box specs, but given that it's a smaller machine I would guess that it also uses the 2.5" size hard drives.
[Edit] Disregard the above, didn't see this was going to be an external drive. However, if you ever decide to upgrade your internal hard drive you may need to keep in mind that size.

As far as hard drive speed, I would just make sure that your X-Box can support it. When I upgraded my PS3 hard drive the first time I went with a 1 TB drive, which should have been supported, but it had an RPM speed greater than the standard 7200 that most drives have. Something very screwy happened...my PS3 constantly threw errors and asked to check the drive (And checking a 1 TB drive on a PS3 took 18 hours) and ultimately I had to replace the drive with a 500 GB drive at 7200 RPM. Maybe the drive just went bad, but I want to think I read something that said PS3 can't handle greater than 7200 RPM. Just make sure the X-Box can handle it.

I believe the XB1 could handle 7200 RPM, and several sites/reviews have mentioned that it helps performance/loading time compared to drives that run at 5400 RPM... but the catch-22 is that the product info does not include the RPM info wherever I look, and the guys talking about the performance differences are just making guesses about the RPM based on how games responded... but I don't want to drop $130 on something because a random internet reviewer *thought* it was running/loading games faster. I want the actual, legal specs!

I'm not a super-hardcore gamer; as long as it will run GTAV, Assassin's Creed, Halo, etc. without hiccups, I'll be happy, but I want to make sure I can find/understand the RPM info on the drive before I proceed (and also figure out if that's a decent brand/price).

I would never, ever, ever, ever buy a mechanical/magnetic hard drive without RPM information. In fact, I would want to know a whole lot more, but RPM, cache size and connectors at a bare minimum. Do some searching.. someone has bought one of those and cracked it open and got it's gut's serials.

DISCLAIMER: External manufacturers don't always use the same drive based on product manufacturing run/batching, but almost always use drives so similar as to be identical enough that the difference is agnostic/transparent to most everything else.

I don't know if it's specific to external hard drives compared to other types, but I cannot find specific RPM info anywhere after another day of searching. It's either 5900 or 7200, but that's as specific as I've seen.

As long as either of those speeds works with my XB1, I'll be happy. I need the storage, and I won't be picky about loading times, especially since I usually use the "freeze" state when I play.
