U.S. Army All-American outside linebacker Daelin Hayes will wrap up his high school career at Ann Arbor (Mich.) Skyline.

The Top100 prospect is already enrolled.

A USC commit, Hayes is ranked by the 247Sports Composite as the nation's No. 5 outside linebacker and No. 63 prospect overall. He plans to enroll early.

Zero info as always, but I feel this pecking order is going to end Michigan > USC > OSU > ND for Hayes.

I feel about the same - SC and UM at the top but OSU has a lot going for them right now as well. He said a lot of good things about ND, so much so that we thought he might be a lean to ND. Turns out it was all lip service.

Regardless of where his pledge is, Hayes will be publicly in play until NSD on ESPN. He's not afraid of the bright light. He's so Hollywood, he moved there.

Meanwhile in the City of Angels, Daelin Hayes is visiting USC. As usual, Schrader and his merry band of charlatans are insufferable. Unfortunately it seems their communal slobbering has some merit this time. Recent rumors had Daelin considering a covert visit for our defunct Super Bowl Junior Day, but it would seem he's solid Trojan. That or this is all a hilarious troll job. Read on if you have a strong stomach.

Top-100 LB Daelin Hayes Talks About His Commitment to USC

I'm as solid as a commit could be at this point. If I could sign on the dotted line right now, I would. I haven't visited any other schools, because when I sat down with my parents and coaches, we talked about when you're engaged, using a marriage analogy, you don't tell your fiancé' you're going to weigh all your options and decide if you're the best fit. If I was going to visit other schools, I shouldn't have committed in the first place. It's clear as day that USC is the best fit for me and where I want to be. So, when it comes time to take official visits, USC will be the only school I will take an official visit to. I might also come back for another visit this summer.

Gross.

Just keep in kind that this is the same kid that used all sorts of superlative adjectives to describe his love for ND, before committing to USC. So, he can be a little over the top when it comes to expressing his feeling or actions to the media. I highly doubt he doesn't take any visits. Very impressionable kid.

He was wavering for a bit when he moved back to Michigan, and he was talking to ND and Michigan and MSU at least. But that changed a few months ago and he's been all USC since. He always talks them up in every interview he gives. For now at least, he is massively in love with USC again.

He seems content with USC. I think he stays with USC as they should have a good year next year. I would be interested in OLB Curtis Robinson from Cali if we can't flip Hayes.

winter in michigan has been pretty brutal this year, if you had an offer to go to southern cal i'm sure you would be pretty set on that right now :)

Setting aside my contempt for all things Troy, Daelin just seems like a good kid that wants to experience his collegiate years in yon Pacific utopia. While the hedonism of Southern California may not appeal to me, I cannot blame a young good-hearted Michigan kid for striking out into the world on his own. I hope he remains true to his word and finds success at USC (on an individual level) for eleven games a year.

Could Hayes grow into a WDE? If so, he could be the final puzzle piece for this recruiting class.

No.

And to Whiskey 's question about Hayes growing into a WDE, doubtful they would move him there. He has elite athleticism for a kid with ideal measurables for a linebacker. I think putting a hand in the ground would be a waste of Hayes' talents.

drake29,

I saw the kid eye to eye and it'll be hard to keep him from getting DE sized. He already looked like Adrian Wilson at the start of his junior year in high school. To be honest, I wouldn't doubt if he's closer to 6-4 than 6-3 and at least 230lbs. I don't know how he's gonna stay LB sized unless he never lifts and joins the cross country team on the side.

Now, the question is, can he be an effective 4-3 OLB in BVG's system if he's 6-4, 250lbs because that's where I see him heading. It can be done, I guess. Brian Urlacher comes to mind as a 6-4, 260lb guy that could've played any LB position at any level though he wasn't as big as Hayes is when he was Hayes' age.

.

Hayes is a LB and BVG wants him badly as Jaylon's replacement. Freak athlete who is just learning how to play.

Bookmark this page and check back in the future. Bilal is more Jaylon Smith sized than Hayes is. I'll stand by what I said regarding Hayes' future physical maturation. I hope he can remain a viable option at OLB, there has been players do it before but to say he isn't gonna get DE sized is probably wrong. Dude is grown as a junior.

Size wise he seems like an OLB. Not seeing this huge DE you speak of. If he is 225 at 6' 3" he is right where you would want him as a junior. Coached guys that were like this and their bodies change a buy but they just do not get massively huge and gain tons of weight. Let the coaches figure that out I guess.

You might be right about his long term position but dwshade is just passing along info from the staff. They currently view him as Jaylons replacement. They think that's where he fits in the scheme and that he can be that good or close to it.

Not every player that goes from HS to college needs to gain weight to play the position they are recruited for. Most do because they aren't freaks of nature. When I was introduced to a college weight training/conditioning program I actually lost 15 lbs. The staff will likely monitor his meals closely to keep him at a suitable weight that he doesn't lose a step. It's really not that complicated.

He's all of 6-3, 225 right now. I would say in the 230's, I just saw him 20 feet away from me on the sideline last month. My point fellas... He's a junior in high school, he's gonna mature. I was 6-4, 200 as a HS Jr, 6-5.5 215 as a Sr and once i got to college blew up to 240 on a basketball lifting program my freshman year. If he weighs 225-230 now, he's gonna fill out 20-30lbs between now and his sophomore year with ND's strength program and improved dietary habits. I'm not saying he can't be a OLB at the next level just that he is going to be big enough to play DE most likely. All I know is, he won't be 6-3, 225 4 years from now... Is Jaylon Smith still 210lbs like his senior recruiting bio's state?

I won't argue with them, but after seeing Bilal stand next to JS, I'd say they already have JS's clone coming to South Bend next year.

.

Bilal isn't even 200 pounds yet. Jaylon was 215 or so SR. year. Not every guy automatically gains a lot of weight once they get to college. Big frame DL do, LB's not so much. Nyles Morgan was 225 and I doubt he ever clears 240. James Onwaulu has only gained about 12-15 pounds. Jarrett Grace has only added 10-12 pounds. Jaylon has added 15 or so. I expect Hayes to play in the 235-240 range. Doug Randolph has only added 5-10 pounds.

That's fine for all those guys but you'd be better off asking yourself what Jaylon weighed when he was a junior, 195-200-205?... once again, if Hayes is 225 right now as advertised (I believe he is bigger than that from seeing him in person) he will have a hard time not being a 250lb human being in 4 years. Forget Longo, forget ND's training table, dude has a grown man's body already at 16 and he's got 22 months before he will get to a college campus. I stand by what I said, he's most likely gonna have a WDE's body. That doesn't mean I think he won't be able to play LB at the larger size. Larger guys have done it before.

.

Wait, so we're basing how much this kid will weigh 3-5 years from now based on an eye witness report...from 20 feet away (which, as we know, probably isn't an accurate distance measurement anyway)?

I think what we really need to do in this thread now is debate whether he could successfully play QB, DT, and MLB for ND.

By the way, I like this kid. I hope he comes to ND.

Yes.

Sorry if I am somewhat skeptical of this kid's weight (or anybody else's in the world, for that matter), several years from now, based on you seeing him in football pads and uniform from a measurable 20 feet.

This board has been down this road before regarding people from all walks of life with guesstimates about height and weight. You may be 100% correct in your assessment...or you may be 100% wrong. Most of us on this board, rather than getting into a big discussion about what a high school junior's weight will be when he's a college junior, wait until it actually matters.

Now I've had to waste my time writing this and waste the time of anybody who reads it spelling this all out.

6-4 250lb per 247 ............. Daelin Hayes, Skyline, Outside Linebacker

6-4 245lb per his Hudl. ......Daelin Hayes - Hudl

So does anyone still want to argue that he isn't going to be WDE sized? He still has 2 summers and his senior year to fill out before he shows up on campus with all the other scrawny freshman.

Next question... will he outgrow WDE?

.

I remember somebody from ISD saying that something fishy was going on with his recruitment. Nah. Can't be. USC never does anything fishy.

Yea, they briefly talked about it on the podcast a few weeks back. I believe the statement that was made was something like ND just can't/won't compete in this type of recruitment. Basically there is benefits being given.

This kid is not coming to ND.

Whether there is benefits; monetary, sexual, or parental influence, it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if there are none (doubtful.)

He isn't coming to ND.

From BGI's podcast, he's either going to stay committed to USC or it's ND. They seemed pretty confident in that.

Here's a kid where beating USC and winning big this year would have an impact.

Add to that the atmosphere around the stadium for SC and how poorly they travel as compared to how ND travels to LA. With any luck, he was at the game last year and saw the army of Irish fans outside tailgating as the SC fans were still in line at Starbucks getting their double shot, skim, stirred, carmel frappichino w/ fat free whipped cream.

Why would anyone have to line up and kiss your ring? Because he's gained weight? As long as he continues to move like a linebacker I believe he will stay there. In 2014, Vincent Jackson was listed at 245 entering his senior season. As of today, he weighs 245 on the roster published by the USF Bulls. If a team still wants him at linebacker they can trim him down - he doesn't have that ripped, bowling ball look like Jeff Luc did. There is a little fat he can shed.

Reuben Foster might be an even better example. His recruiting profile had him listed at 6-1, 244 lbs. So not quite as heavy, not quite as tall but still a similar build. He's actually LOST weight since arriving at Bama - listed at 240 lbs. Some kids come into camp heavy, others light. The point is that a college strength and conditioning program can reshape the players body to fill the role they were recruited to play. If the staff decides they want him to play DE, I believe it has less to do with him being 10 lbs heavy and more to do with the fact that he can be an impact player at the position, more so than at linebacker.
