I dont see Fink having the ability to WR at the high FBS level. He has mobility so he isnt a Tommy Rees pocket, but he isnt a QB that you're going to run read option with on a consistent basis. Fink is a kid that plays smart, takes care of the ball and won't kill you. Can he develop into a game changer? Yes, he has a high ceiling and with good coaching can hit that. Running wise, from what I understand, his team didnt have good WRs and they needed him to be a runner. Like most schools, you're QB is going to be the best athlete.

In college, Fink is a guy similar to Dayne Crist skill set. Good arm, taller/longer QB and will beat teams with his arm vs running. He is a QB that will be able to get the first down running on 3rd and 4, if there is no one open, but he isn't going to take it 50 yards to house either.

I like the offer because you can take a more developmental QB this class because of Wimbush, Kizer and Zaire. Meaning, there is plenty of talent there and plenty of years on the team between the 3, so there isnt a rush to develop the 2016 QB.

I would also keep me eye on some QB's from Cali/Texas that Sanford has reached out too. Similar mold to Fink. They take care of the ball and have big arms, but they are a little bit more mobile than Fink.

Moving on...

Many dominos have yet to fall for 2016 QBs, but I think USC, Stanford, and UCLA are going to divvy up Costello, Fink, and Modster. Costello has basically said that Stanford and USC are his final two and that he will decide in the next 10 days or so. If he chooses USC and Modster goes to UCLA, that would leave us with a good shot at Matt, I guess. Not really worth speculating until Costello announces his decision.

Edit: I forgot to add that Washington is a player for Fink's services, as well. He'll be a tough pull for Sanford.

If Costello chooses SC, that leaves UCLA to chose between Fink and Modster locally. Modster unofficialed over the weekend and got offered... Fink goes there tomorrow lets see if they offer him immediately. I don't see either at Stanford, they just don't fit into what Stanford QB's usually look like.

I think ND is in a good position with the one of them then. They both have ND like skills. Modster is almost a clone of Wimbush physically and may be a better athlete, he's a legit basketball player with hops (but so was Golson) and it cannot be forgotten that his OC at Tesoro is former ND TE, Oscar McBride who told me to personally that he wants him to go to ND and has been working on the staff since last summer.

My over simplified view of it goes like this: Fink reminds me of Barnett and Modster reminds me of Wimbush. I'd go with the Wimbush clone who has a coach pushing him to South Bend.

Regardless of what happens, I look forward to seeing them both play this fall.

Wiltfong caught up with Matt's dad and he got the impression that ND is much more in this race than previously thought. Father said "Its a dead heat" in regards to ND/USC. His father is really pushing a ND visit for May which would be crucial to get this moving in ND's favor.

good info...

wondering:
did Costello commit to anyone yet?
im thinking Costello is usc's first choice, and fink waiting see what happens with costello.
safe to assume Costello to usc improves our chances of being in the "fink race"?

regardless im in the pro haskins camp...he is our staff first choice, no?

Would be nice to beat out USC for a Cali QB..are folks on here still feeling burnt out by the notion of recruiting kids like him after Barnett's decommitment?

I say ND should go after him. Let Sanford pick a kid he knows and see what he can do

Seems like a few on here feel good about Haskins, but everything I'm seeing online has him trending hard for Maryland.

IKR... Everytime I see the Haskins love I'm like, what articles am I missing? I'm in the seat next to you on that.

They took Sam Darnold last year, along with Town.

So USC will have 2 4-star QBs in the class ahead of him.

I don't think it matters so much IF he is that good...44 is up there. Good problem having three studs battle it out for two spots...one will probably transfer but I don't think Fink. He'd have one more year of eligibility and brings a different skill set. IMO Sark would let the other two battle it out and go from there.

He's been quoted as hoping that USC will wait for him as he goes through the process. He's also been quoted as saying that he wants to stay local (UCLA, USC). Then you have others saying he wouldn't mind leaving the state and going to ND, and that he's a great fit here.

It'll be interesting to see how it plays out, especially as he's been blowing up of late. Wouldn't be surprised to see depth chart play a role. To be honest, for me, USC's depth chart looks the best, as Max Browne will only have a couple years left and I'm not super high and Town or Darnold (I like Darnold better). Rosen is gonna be sick (although I could see him as a 3 yr guy).
