I don't care what our RPI or SOS is, ND's resumè speaks for itself and if they beat UNC, the ACC champions thoroughly deserve a 2 spot.

agreed.

Best coached game I've seen by Brey...kudos to him. Time to get that NCAA tourney monkey off hisback.

I've watched these guys play 1/2 dozen times this year and they play beautiful basketball. Brey can really coach and you can tell his guys enjoy the ride. They'll do ok in the tournament-----maybe a deep run if they don't run into a team raining 3's from the rafters.

Okafor At the line helped alot. What was he 3-10?

If the refs would have called several of the legit fouls AGAINST Okafor that weren't called, more than likely he wouldn't have had the opportunity to shoot that many foul shots. He should have been out with 5 fouls! How he got by without a foul When RUNNING OVER Colson is beyond any realm of reality!? Even the obvious "pro Duke" commentators said that it should have been a foul on Okafor.

I don't really know what Notre Dame could do more to earn a #2 seed. They beat a #1 seed twice; the second time was an ass kicking and the refs were trying really hard for a Duke/UNC championship. They also beat North Carolina on the road and took Louisville behind the woodshed on the road.

2 of the #2 seeds (Arizona and Gonzaga) also had pretty weak OOC schedules and play in shitty conferences. I'd love to see how they would do in the ACC

It's just absolutely hilarious that in 2015 college basketball still uses the RPI.

I'm not the biggest fan of it, but every person who sits in on a mock committee says it's one of the main criteria used.

#2 or #3 seed doesn't really matter as much as who's in your bracket, but you have to play them eventually. This team is good enough to play with anyone.

I liked how this team stayed together during Duke's run. I thought we got lazy getting back on D twice which led to a couple of easy baskets, but for the most part the team played an outstanding game.

The "no call" when Bonzie was run over was too obvious not to call, but I thought the refs called a pretty fair game. There were the two manufactured calls when Duke flung their arms up like they had been pushed, but give Duke credit for doing what they could to help get themselves back in the game.

Should be a good game tonight as NC appears to be playing very well right now.

Sorry Brey, but the Irish snapping UCLA's 88 game win streak is the biggest win in programs history.

Didn't Notre Dame make a final four under Phelps?? And were taking reg season games and conference tourney games??

I know a lot changes with the conference tourneys winding down but I saw one bracket prediction yesterday that had us at a 3 seed in the same bracket where Villanova was the 1 seed, Gonzaga the 2 seed and Oklahoma was the 4 seed. I would LOVE if that somehow came to fruition. That has legit final four hopes written all over it.

I don't care much if we're a 2 or 3 seed...more about who is in our bracket. I don't want in the same bracket where Wisconsin might be a 2 seed (I know there's a lot of talk now that they might take Duke's 1 seed but that still stands if Duke is then the 2 seed...I don't want in the bracket where/if Duke is a 2 either).

If we are a 3 seed I just want to end up in one of the brackets where Gonzaga, Kansas or Arizona is the 2 seed. I see all three of those games as pretty winnable if we make it that far. And if Villanova is the 1 seed in any of those brackets then I'd love that too as I see them as the weakest 1 seed out there. The rest of the 1 seeds will be tough and will take a flawless game from us to beat them...and/or a terrible game by them.

All this assuming we don't pull a typical ND and get bounced in the first or second round.

When I brought up best win ever, I did say best win under Brey. I do think last night was the best post-Digger win we've had ever.

Went to Nashville for dinner with the wife last night and DVRed the game for late night viewing. I don't think I have ever seen Brey have his team so well prepared. Guys played with a lot of grit and determination last night. Beautiful game. Hope they hang a banner tonight!

Agreed. I really don't understand the RPI, especially not with all the sub-rankings that exist within it.
NCAA College Basketball RPI Rankings - ESPN

For example: ND's Non-conference RPI puts them at 7th and their Conference RPI puts them at 8th. Gonzaga's NonConf RPI is 20th and the Conf RPI is 18th. Yet somehow ND's total RPI is 18th and Gonzaga's is 8th? Am I missing some type of game that isn't either non-conference or conference? Maybe when we lost to Providence it counted as a Used-to-be-in-the-same-conference game, and our UTBITSConf RPI is in the 200s?

So are we a 2 seed or solid 3 seed if we beat NC tomorrow?

I think we're a 3-seed regardless of the result. All the projected 2-seeds are all still in their tournaments (Gonzaga already won).

Just for fun, I used the Colley (one of the guys whose rankings were used in the BCS formula) Rankings "add/delete game" feature to try input a best case scenario for us. We beat UNC, Purdue beats Wisconsin, MSU beats Maryland, Oregon beats Zona, and ISU beats Kansas. Colley (who likes us much more than the RPI btw) still has us at 9. If you notice, there's a huge gap between Gonzaga at 8 and us or Maryland at 9. Seems to indicate that the top 8 seeds are already cemented.
Colley Rankings

Also, here's a worst case scenario. Colley Rankings
Maryland beats MSU, UNC beats us, ISU beats Kansas, Arkansas beats Georgia and then Kentucky. We still end up in 12th with Arkansas sitting right behind us.

This post really went well with your Avatar. I could hear Andy Rooney in my head while reading that lol.

If they shouldn't be using RPI, what should they be using?

I stated this in the other thread but the committee has been using the KPI rating more and more then the RPI.

Unfortunately didn't catch the game last night but what a great win. UNC won't be easy but we just keep playing the way we have offensively and defensively we have a good chance against UNC

Wisconsin is down five at half to Purdue. That'd be pretty big for ND.

Even if Wisconsin lost we are not gonna jump them to a 2 seed. Almost no way we become a 2 seed. We might be still fighting for a 3 seed tonight who knows

He's not saying we'd jump Wisconsin. It would just boost our resume since we crushed Purdue and then Purdue beat a potential 1/2 seed. But since Wisconsin is starting to run away with that game it doesn't really matter anymore.
