Elston should be ALL OVER Josh King and Auston Robertson right now, and by all accounts, he really isn't on them like he should be. We may lose out on both guys, especially Robertson.

I think Elston is a decent coach, but I 100% agree with Lax in that he has clearly not shown an ability to help our kids develop a pass rushing repertoire that would help us get pressure with 4. Almost every single kid we have just bull rushes the OL on every single pass play - there is no technique to use their hands to perform any type of pass rushing move for the most part.

I know you're going off of 'by all accounts' but how do we know he isn't on them like he should be? Neither are committed at this point and its still a bit early to worry about 2016. I'm not quick to jump on Mike Frank's words on his last podcast as others are.

To be clear, I'm not saying someone more skilled at coaching DL or recruiting wouldn't be a better option, I'm just not quick to jump on one person's words where he could have a few reasons to bash.

I'm not specifically going off the Podcast. If you read interviews with those kids, other schools are simply making much more consistent contact / building stronger relationships than ND, OSU specifically. It's one thing if we recruit our asses off trying to get these kids and just lose to OSU, but by not even putting in the effort necessary to put up a fight is inexcusable IMO.

Quote directly from Robertson:

On his relationship with Elston…
“Our relationship is pretty good. We don’t talk as much as we’re supposed to, but every time we do talk it’s a good conversation.”

I'll concede to that quote but could it be that Robertson just isn't that interested in ND? My whole point is that there are so many different variables that go into it that I find it difficult to solely blame Elston for his effort.

We were clearly in his top 2 in September - he said it multiple times after his visit. Now we have been replaced by Michigan State, and are definitely 3rd. Idk what else to attribute that to other than lackluster recruiting. We may not have beaten OSU, but being out-recruited for a big-time DE that lives in Fort Wayne by MSU is terrible.

I actually don't understand why the family is so upset haha. Unless the kid is an academic all star, Mattison probably knows whether he'd get in on his own or not.

Haha well clearly the recruit and family wanted to believe differently and had their whole world shattered when Mattison mentioned something to the contrary.

But still a bad move by Mattison, not something you would need to or want to mention to a recruit unless the context was 'Michigan is a great school academically and because of your football ability you'll get a great Michigan education'.

The lesser of two evils perhaps, working on a staff with Petrino vs. being a Raider....

Terrible if true, he's our 2nd best recruiter and the 1st one (Alford) is prime for the pickings as well.

This staff can't afford to lose recruiters like Cooks. Why can't Elliot and Booker move on? Don't see a lot of worth with those two.

Could lead to McKinney going to OU? The comments on that site also mention Bo Wallace.

Why can't we fucking pay our coaches smh

Is the issue is pay or responsibility? Both? According to that link, he'll be responsible for entire secondary. So, we lose Cooks but keep Elliot? That... would suck.

I doubt anyone wants Elliot.

Nor would he be looking to leave. I'd argue one of Elliot's positives is that he's passed the point of climbing the coaching ladder. Stability in a coaching staff is an asset for a program.

What commits is he connected to?

Every kid from Texas and every kid in our secondary. Couple thoughts:
1. I have no idea how reputable that website is, if this is true we'll know shortly though through the premium sites.
2. If this is true, it certainly wasn't supposed to leak before NSD, and someone at Oklahoma messed up.
3. The job description is at best a side grade to his current job at ND, and on the surface it's a downgrade. So if he's taking this job we're either not paying enough or there is more to it.
4. Booker is better suited to coach corners than TE and Elliot should move back to coaching safeties. From a coaching standpoint this is meh, from a timing and recruiting standpoint this is serious BS.

Yeah sorry. As of right now it's a rumor, but I freaked.

And then possibly bring in Quinn to coach TEs?

There's a Kerry Cooks update on Rivals if anyone has access.

McKinney is visiting Oklahoma this weekend, and the Sooners are telling him that there's a new defensive coach on the way to Oklahoma, and it's on that he's familiar with.

It does NOT say who it is, or if it's Cooks or not. But it would make sense.

The main take away from that is, the Sooners staff is talking as if it's a done deal.
