He hung out with Smythe and Luke for most of the visit. He is in the same situation as Durham was a few years ago as Durham considered Stanford as well. His brother lives 15 minutes from Stanford and his mother travels to the Bay Area for business. So there is a sense of home away from home that Stanford gives him. We have advantage from intensity of football that he looks for as compared to SEC. Academics are great either way.

Just a hunch and an opinion, brother played at LSU, He is from there and the offer supposedly just became actionable in December according to the LSU board (not sure if that is true)..... Just saying after reading Loy's writeup it seems he still wants LSU if it is indeed actionable

Definitely homerish LOL. Stanford has A LOT to offer, just as ND does. It all depends on what the kid TRULY wants. They all say they want certain things, but their actions tell all.

I wouldn't do it if I were a top-level recruit, but I won't blame any kid for picking Stanford over another "football" school. We all have different tastes...to each his own.

Fwiw, Andrew from rivals feels real Good about where ND stands with Reid.

This might be the situation where we are the best of Both worlds.

Exactly what I think. Stanford has academics that rival ND's, but the football atmosphere is nowhere near us. LSU has the gameday atmosphere of ND's, but sorely lacks the academics. However, I'm worried about the connections he has in the bay area.

Honest question: Is Stanford truly tougher once the kid is admitted or is it just that their admissions tougher than ND's? Reason I ask is that ND almost always loses a player or two for academic missteps while I don't hear the same about Stanford players. Maybe ND's tough moral code is what leads to that but it seems like Stanford weeds out kids in the admissions process so they don't have to risk losing a kid to academic reasons down the road. Jusr curious.

Good question. Here is my understanding:
-Stanford has unequivocally harder admissions than ND, though I'm not sure exactly where they stand on things like foreign language credits, etc.

-Once kids get to Stanford, they're marginally more insulated than ND players, though certainly nothing like a typical football factory. Where a school like Texas A&M or Mississippi State might stick all their kids in online classes that are virtually impossible to fail and keep them segregated in athlete housing, etc... Stanford doesn't do that. But they used to print off a list of easy classes for athletes that they would hand out each semester... until someone blew the whistle on that and now they do it by word of mouth. Not much different than how at ND athletes have better DART times and can get into classes known to be easy/fun, just a little bit more directed with how they used to actively funnel them into "recommended" classes.

-The end result is that by weeding out all the "borderline" kids up front and then marginally insulating them so that they don't have an impossible workload, there is only a small risk of a kid running afoul of academics, though their graduation rates are comparable with ND which shows that they do have their small share of people who don't graduate.

-Issues with cheating are going to be unique to the individual.

My understanding of the crystal ball, and the way it is scored, is that a long standing crystal ball prediction outweighs a last minute change to the leading team. So much so that many analysts will sit on their original prediction and take the minor loss that may come with a different school. The possibility that they could still gain a significant amount of points if their original prediction holds true is so great that it is worthwhile to stay loyal to the long standing prediction.

Sucks, but I think the family ties to the west coast will be too much for ND to overcome here.

Still think we land him. We have a much more favorable depth chart, and our atmosphere vastly exceeds theirs. Both major factors when deciding. Only thing Stanford has going for them is connections in the Bay Area.

But who knows? Farrar is still more than likely the backup plan if/when Reid commits to Stanford.

So Reid and Buncom are headed to stanford, Meadors is all UCLA, and Farrar hasn't decided between us or PSU. What is plan Z?

Farrar is not going to visit PSU according to Wilting on their site.
