Fair point but it doesn't even matter. At this point everything they've done previously (outside winning the NCG) is pretty much meaningless. Also even if they win it this year, next year, they'll say who gives a shit your competitions isn't that good. This has literally said to the nation, SEC is OVERRRATED!

Living in Ohio, I told all my Buckeye friends that I'd root for OSU tonight IF Oregon beats FSU.

I can't even fathom watching the Championship game next week if it's FSU vs OSU. There is literally nothing good I could take from that.

Kind of OT but I think it works here. Today I was watching Lawrence Timmons (former FSU) of the Steelers being interviewed by a ESPN guy. He starts asking him random leading questions trying to get Timmons to make an emotional response to the Steelers vs Ravens game this week. It was quite clear this ESPN guy was trying to get him to talk junk about the Ravens because it was such a hated rival. He even pulled out a random Raven and asked "what would you say to him when you will be facing him on the field"? Timmons was like ???? (What are you doing man?). His responses were nice and intimated "I work with these guys dude.... I'm a feel good guy. I don't need to talk junk. "

Anyway I say all this because the ESPN guy was clearly leading him and then tried to work in Florida State and Florida into the discussion and when say work I mean crowbar. The ESPN guy goes "so what is a bigger rivalry.....the Steelers vs Ravens or Florida State vs Florida?" Timmons, uncomfortable, responded "I would say FSU vs Miami is bigger rival than Florida..." Lol. It was so obvious what the interviewer was doing.

dshans, you're completely right especially as it applies to Mizzou. I grew up 30 minutes south of campus and once they joined the SEC, you'd have thought everybody in Mid MO won the lottery. Immediately they all loved everything about the SEC and thought it was their golden ticket. Alas, they were brought in to be a punching bag. Turns out they (and the rest of the East) are the punching bags for a mediocre conference that is too afraid of getting exposed on the big regular season stage.

This is the truest thing I've ever read. I have a whole bunch of family in Missouri, bunch of season ticket holders.

I was out there for Christmas right after they joined the SEC and all they would talk about is how the SEC > all because ESPN says so. I was even told on more than one occasion that the playoffs should be 4 SEC teams and they were 100% dead serious.

I'm watching ESPNU right now and they're STILL pumping SEC propaganda about how they "dominate in the trenches" and "if you want to play against the best" ... it's un-fucking-believable.

Best fact ever: the ACC had more top 150 draft picks last year than the SEC.

People were HAPPY about ND beating LSU. At the time, it was also significant since the SEC West had yet to lose outside of conference. I can't remember a single person saying ND was "awesome." Not a single person.

Honestly I thought LSU was a pretty mediocre team and have been pumped about this victory solely for the NATIONAL PERCEPTION that the SEC is awesome. Honestly I think the SEC, particularly the West is overrated and beating a pedestrian 8-4 team isn't all that great, other than I love watching ESPN/the SEC and their fans choke on their own tears and the masses follow whatever ESPN tells them so they think that ND's win was bigger than it was. It was the biggest win of BK's career...perception wise.

Weird year, even with the hot starts coloring the perception by the Miss schools it'll end up being a down year for the SEC. Ultimately, all of this sh!t gets settled on the field no matter how much blame is placed on ESPN.
