Incredibly proud of the guys today. Was fun to watch. The future is bright guys, we need to build some depth. Our guys are gifted athletes, just need to continue filling the gaps. Even though it's been pretty rough and negative in here the last couple of months, it's been fun hanging with you all.

Here's what I do next year:

Golson is the "starter." Our offense should look the way it did this game. Heavy on the rush with screens and high percentage passes mixed in. Let Golson sling it when the situation allows for it. Deep passes on 2nd and short, for example.

Malik gets the red zone and any 3rd or 4th and short. Run the zone read just like we did in the red zone today. If Golson is having a bad game, Malik can step in on all other plays, too.

Golson will suffer in the TD department but hopefully it cuts down on his turnovers. Malik gets a healthy dose of the snaps.

Think Chris Leak and Tim Tebow.

I'm not sure the offense can be "heavy on the rush" with Golson at the helm. At least, not in a spread offense.

Absolutely loved the man in motion for jet sweeps just a nice wrinkle....if we run Zaire that much next year for season it is imperative Golson stays...he took Some licks....another great feather in the caps for our recruits at the bowl games...don't have to hear the sec shit and they can be proud and maybe just maybe helps teeter those inn the fence....either way f michigan, f the sec and well f sc

This.

But switch "starters". Think Pike/Collaros.

I told someone tonight, this is the first time since BK got here that I saw the offense he had in Cinci.

I agree with GK's thought process, but wooly nailed it with Pike/Collaros.

We all saw today that the kids BK has recruited can go toe to toe.

I loved seeing Zaire attempt to make that block on Folston's TD run. Didn't quite finish it but damn you gotta love that.

Malik all day. But as long as it's not a 2 qb system I'll be happy.

smh, sigh.

They did really good together and people said Golson did look happy I thought he was good.

I just wonder if they would be willing to do this for a whole season? I didn't mean to be sour about it.

From the game I just saw, the isn't even a controversy. Malik ran the offense, and we had 400+ yards against the SEC's best defense. Malik ended up 12 of 15, so he's capable but he's running makes this a no brainer.

This is the first Notre Dame Football Game I have missed since 1988. I had to work and had too much money on the line. I knew we would lose by 40 and can say with all my heart..... I FEEL GOOD TONIGHT. GO IRISH!!!!

It's Malik's team moving forward. If Golson wants to stick around and work his tail off in hopes of somehow being reasserted in the offense if things go south with Malik, I'm on board. But the energy and excitement within the team that Malik brings to the table is palpable. He's our guy. I think if you have two QB's you have none. Go with Zaire, and I don't think we'll be disappointed. My $0.02.

Whatever BK does when EVERYONE says we'll get crushed(save Alabama 2012), he needs to do every game.
When his teams are told they have no chance, they usually play their best.

Its about time this guy got the praise he deserves as a leader and coach. He tried to paste together a season this year with little to no defense struck together with crazy glue even when they were winning. His offense carried this season and if they get crusty on defense they can make some noise next year. It will be interesting how the defense plays next year with all these guys back and healthy. Either Quarterback will score points-its all in the hands of the defense next year.

Agree. I didn't realize until today how big Zaire was...tough bugger to hit. Golson wouldn't last a game running as much as Zaire did today.

Watching the highlights, it looks like Malik was the first to celebrate with Prosise on his TD run. That kind of excitement has to be contagious!

Malik is also the reason Folston scored his TD.

My thoughts on the QB situation: MZ has room to grow, but he looks every bit the part and I'd be happy with him as ND's QB moving forward. Golson, while reminding everyone what he's capable of on the last drive of the game (and shocker...actually checking down to make good easy throws showed immense growth and poise), he still had too many throws where he just chucked it. That bothers me, because that's exactly what got him into trouble throughout the entire season (and that does NOT show growth and poise). EG is a game changer, but only when he's not turning the ball over. MZ will undoubtedly make mistakes and have turnovers, but whoever learns and grows from those mistakes the most, earns the spot in my opinion. Throw in the intangibles like Malik's leadership, fire, willingness to block, etc and I think you have a front-runner going into spring ball.

I think BK found his offense today, and Malik Zaire made it go.

Props to Golson for going in and slinging the ball around very well in crucial situations, but Zaire has a command and a desire to put it all on the line that was super impressive. If he can hone that over the offseason in a QB competition and become half the passer Golson is, then he's gotta be THE guy next year.

Only thing holding him back as a passer is reps with the full offense, and he got a very valuable start on that today.

If the offense isn't clearly run-first from the start next year, or if 5-wide on 3rd-and-short is once again a mainstay in the playbook, I'll be upset after having seen the performance today.
I don't think 5 wide is a problem in that situation when there is a legit threat of run AND pass. MZ can provide both. Hell, EG can too if he would just play a little smarter. That said, I wouldn't mind some jumbo sets and let the big boys run it down everyone's throats.

I think Golson with an emphasis on the running game would give ND the best offense. But, I have no faith that Kelly could contain himself from chucking it all over the field so I want Malik in there. Plus, the kid is a gamer. I think Kelly put way too much on Golson this year, the run game should have been the focus.

Agree completely.

"Having two QBs means you have none" is coach speak and wrong, at least in college. I can't see how making the defensive coordinator prepare for two different offensives is a handicap for the offense.
