I'm quite confident he's not playing d due to off the field problems.

Source? I would venture to imagine that I'm a little more well connected to members of the Irish secondary than you are as I know a few of them well. Haven't heard one bad thing about anything that's happened with Redfield.

I believe Kelly has expressed the situation regarding Redfield. The coaching staff thinks he is not playing at the level he should be playing at and that the person behind him is, in this case Tranquil. They have not been satisfied with his play for a while now.

Even if true, he's still our best safety. Dafuq?

We don't even know why he's not playing and you have the 411 on his relationship with ND? There were articles published just a month ago how he's loving ND and Chinese classes and shit..

I said that I think he transfers.

And I am not the only person in this thread who thinks that way.

Chill out on the indignation, my friend.

As confident as you were of Greg Bryant transferring?

Put he can still play on special teams? So what is his punishment?

Lol. Gotta love IE.

But I guess I could have expanded on my statement. I've been told that he's not been putting the time in outside of practice that he should be.

If he does transfer all these people saying next year is the year better hold on. We won't have goo depth or quality at that position.

Really hard to imagine he would be any worse than Drue out there. He just looked brutal--missing tackles and assignments.

From the beginning of this season it has been stated by Kelly and other folks that the deep secondary [when it's Redfield and Shumate] makes potentially disastrous errors in figuring out fits and coverage. To my intuition then, this is the reason for Collinsworth and Tranquill. However, Collinsworth's obvious nagging injuries are creating so many missed tackles that Cooks may have to reassess the benefits/rewards ratio of having him back there.

This team seems stacked with great athletes who don't know what they're doing and somewhat lesser athletes [or injured ones] who do. I view this as bad luck beyond any sense of justice, but I realize that others have [to me unrealistic] expectations that a coach can fix anything no matter how much ill fortune the team has. For me that is baloney. Coach will turn out a monster team when these flurries of injuries and boneheadedness stop.

And in turn BK is punishing the team and losing games because if it. And that's BS.

I don't get a coach benching a guy and losing games because you're pissed a player isn't putting in yhe extra time. I get being frustrated. But it's your job as a coach to motivate him.

And one of the ways that coaches motivate players is by taking away PT.

Sounds like there was a continuation of the headbutting between he and the coaching staff after the NW game. Source - ND player.

lol if he was lacking in organized team activities, I'd understand. He's not. THE ENTIRE TEAM is being punished.

The entire team is being punished by Redfield's (apparent) unwillingness to put in the same time that his teammates are putting in. And, if true, it sounds like it is a chronic thing. You win or lose as a team. That means you practice as a team. You have responsibilities as a team. Maybe his teammates should be stepping up and putting more pressure on him to do the right thing? Maybe someone should get Spike Lee to talk to him? ;)

Unless I read it wrong, practice was never the issue. Then again Chris Brown is a starter because of his practice ability.

I never said it was a practice issue. I used the idea that "you practice as a team" just to illustrate that your responsibility to your team does not start and end with the opening and closing whistles. Apparently, everyone else is putting in the time away from practice, or there would be others not playing.

I'm not sure what you're getting at here? As far as the ND receiver corp goes, there's Fuller and then there's everybody else. Brown is right there with Robinson as the #2 option, with Prosise/Koyack/Carlisle being a notch below those two.

I actually think Brown has stepped up and played well after his first month of being nonexistent.

He's just not winning enough 1 on 1. CRob wins against the D as many times a game as CB does. I'd like to see the snaps more 50/50 than overwhelmingly in Brown's favor as they are now.

Imo he gets the Needed catch. I think people raised the expectation of him before he was even on campus hence the let down.

What jimmymac says makes sense I guess my bigger question then would be if it's been clearly communicated to him why he isn't playing. And if it has, then you have to really question why the heck he doesn't have his stuff together.

The level of "bad" shown by the safeties the past two games makes it inexcusable to not play Redfield unless it's a discipline or "send a message" situation. There's no way the coaches can be breaking down film and thinking the guys playing right now give them best chance to win.

How do you know they're not? I mean I would want it to be 50/50 too but I'd like to see a play count figure. Robinson has more touches than Brown does this year, maybe it's because he is beating coverage like you say, maybe the ratio of touches-to-plays is actually similar. I don't know.

When Hardy went in it was all I needed to see. Redfield fucked up somewhere. Either that or the coaching staff is literally retarded.

Do we think Brian Kelly is retarded? No of course not. Redfield is sitting for off-the-field issues. Which we aren't actually entitled to be informed of, as much as we would like to be.

I'm almost sure you're right, and I'm pretty sure this is the reason nobody asked Kelly anything about Redfield during the post-game presser. I'm willing to bet that members of the media are on notice that the topic is not open for discussion.

Still, it's really weird that he's playing special teams if that is the case.

It could be that the off-field stuff is related to film, game study, etc. If he's still on the field then I don't believe it to be true off the field issues. Maybe late to meetings? Or having a poor attitude.

Coach showing tough love. Up to Max on how he responds.

Kelly said “we haven’t given up on them” on Redfield and Shumate, but practice consistency has not shown up to warrant putting them in.

"Max and Elijah are not on the field, not just because of mental mistakes, but there are production lapses as well.”- Brian Kelly

...weird.
