i can't figure out though with 85 scholarship players and several walk ons that 1 f-ing person can't hold field goals.

literally been coaching for 15 years and every year there's been a kid that can do it without a problem

Did anyone else see Malik crying during the Alma Mater? I've never seen that kind of passion from Golson, or anyone else on this team for that matter.

The kid has a "golden" heart.

I'm pulling for him.

When he gets his chance, he'll be aiming to redeem his holding issues.

Just that alone makes me want him as the starter. I cant stand that it"appears" no one gives a fuck.

I really want Zaire starting. I fully expect there to be an open competition next season and Zaire winning it. Normally you'd expect Golson to take advantage of the opportunity of getting your starting job back and never looking back. Golson hasn't improved at all since the start of the season, and his body language tells us that he's given up. He's no leader. He practically blew off Kelly and went to the sideline to mope. I'm tired of the turnovers and the erratic play, but it's getting to the point that we really need to cut ties. Zaire is the better QB, and has the better attitude. What the Hell was Golson doing in California last year? Because, honestly I see nothing that he apparently worked on with George Whitfield translating to his current play.

I think we all can agree that MZ deserves some game experience to at least see what he can do!

Maybe, depending on how the USC game goes, we'll see BK give him a shot in the bowl game like Redfield got last year (lol).

At this point in the season after all the ups and downs we have see by EG I don't think we will see MZ.

ok, its settled -Zaire is starting at QB, and Golson is going to be holding for FGs and PATs.

That is a strangely determinative sentence given that Zaire's never thrown an NCAA pass.

edit: also, lol @ people suggesting he should get a chance because he cried after the game. Don't get me wrong, I feel for the kid, but being emotional is not a signal that he would be a better or worse QB.

I would like to see Zaire and Golson current 40 times.

My speculation:
Zaire 4.5
Golson 4.9

I couldn't wait til we finally had a dual threat qb....

What they are saying is that they like that he is showing emotion, unlike some of our players that look as if they don't care (look being the key word, who knows how they act behind closed doors or what they feel inside).

I am not saying that I agree with that sentiment but I understand that sentiment. People always talk about Manti and our other previous leaders showing emotion and they are happy to see someone on the team show emotion.

Nobody said any such thing. I think Malik should get a chance because Golson is the most inconsistent player I've ever seen. Separately, it was nice to see a player (Malik) actually giving a shit after a mistake and a loss. That's way too rare with this group.

Has anybody noticed that whenever Golson comes off the field and Kelly is talking to him...that Golson ALWAYS seems to be walking away from Kelly as they speak? Maybe I should have asked this question in the Golson thread. But does speak to his leadership/followship skills.

Care to explain this one?

You want a guy who cries after not being able to complete a simple task that the entire teams relies on...to be given the keys to running the entire offense?

This might make negative sense.

Hey I thought you weren't going to be watching the game anyway. Didn't you announce that to the world?

I think Zaire should be factored into the gameplan against USC. At this point the season is lost and they're going to get a crappy bowl anyways. It would make sense to toss him in on a few series.

I am not entirely convinced anymore that Golson will be much better next season than he is this season.

I've gotten the feeling this season that Golson isn't really a Quarterback. He's more like an athlete trying to play Quarterback, a baller. He struggles with making the right call when we do run an option, and he does a horrible job with his progressions. Obviously we haven't seen a lot of Malik, really just spring game action, but he played more like a QB with his pocket presence and reads. Do I think he'd put more points on the board? Probably not, but I'm willing to bet he has less turnovers and could be more consistent. Cleaning up turnovers could be a big thing. I think he could be a better leader too.

He's a better passer than runner though. Golson is thinking too much and is too cocky. Unfortunately QB's cannot get a way with mental mistakes in a game.

Golson is a QB for sure. He isn't a read option QB by any stretch of the imagination though. His problem is that he stares down his wideouts too much and his ability to read progressions as you basically said, are limited.

Will experience help Golson? Maybe. But I'm thinking that we may have seen his ceiling.

Every time I see a blitz with EG at QB I cringe thinking about what is about to happen!

I agree, he's regressed as the season's gone on and is a shell of him self. I saw his flaws and was not impressed when "Golson for Heisman" was a thing. We should finish with him this season, and hopefully hope that he, Malik, or Kizer become a STUD.

Things Golson never says - “Everything in life is about getting the opportunity. When the opportunity came, I didn’t even look at it as a make-or-break point,” Zaire said. “I looked at it as a way to help the football team.

“The only thing moving forward is just being as prepared as I can be for the guys around me. That’s who I play for — the guys around me. We have a great squad and a great offensive unit and the O-line is great and the running backs are great and it’s my job to be a distributor and get the ball to all of our great guys.”
