Here's some simple math for coach Kelly

12 is not better than 13
12 is better than 11

96 - 2 - 40 - 2 - 40 = 12

the means if we take a knee we punt the ball with 12 seconds left (assuming 40 second play clock and two seconds to take a knee each play) from their 40 yard line and assuming a 4-5 second hang time, worse case is they get the ball at their 20-yard line (if punt goes into endzone) with no timeouts, down 3 points, and with 7 or 8 seconds left.

This same Northwestern team managed to score only 24 points and total 283 yards against WESTERN. ILLINOIS.

43 points to Northwestern is an utter failure on multiple levels.

You could honestly come up with legitimate excuses for the previous couple of games but this game, just sickening.

- Poorly coached game. Why put Cam Mcdaniel in at the end when he is cold?
- Was Kelly trying to prove a point to Max Redfield by sitting him? Tranquill was terrible. NW should have had about 21 more points. Why not put Corky Thatcher back there to play safety.
- The Defense is terrible. I don't want to hear that they are young. They got worked by a really crappy NW offense.

- Why can't Notre Dame beat any opponent by 25 points? All of the top teams do it. Notre Dame is far from a top team.

-Game Balls go to Cam Mcdaniel and Kyle Brindza. Because when the game was on the line, they stepped their game up.

Just from listening to the press conference Kelly needs to man up and quit making excuses.

Kelly on two-pt attempt: "In retrospect, there's no advantage" to going up 13 instead of 12. Still felt two was better in light of kicking. It's a freaking extra point

If you can't count on a PAT then kicking 40+ yarder instead of going for 4th & 2 in OT makes no sense.

I didn't get to watch the game, and didn't get to listen to all of it, however, my initial thoughts.......this is not a well coached team: in any facet of the game. Offense, is all over the damned place.....2 1st and goals, and 2 fumbles. Which begs this question.....why in the fuck is he running jet sweeps on the 5yd line with his WR's???

Defense.......wow......just, wow. When I thought I'd seen it all out of these kids, the come up with more ways to piss all over themselves. They cannot seem to cover ANYONE down field. Why is your best S not on the field when it's absolutely clear that the Frosh has NO business back there anchoring things????

I blame this on the coaching staff moreso than the olayers.....this team is either ill prepared, or aren't motivated enough to play hard all game long, and that is on the staff.

Fundamentals. Poor tackling. Leaving the middle of the field wide open. Not keeping outside containment. This stuff is taught at early stages. Completely gone by the wayside.

I think it is painfully obvious BVG is overmatched once teams on our schedule have figured out his scheme. He continually tries the same blitzes and stunts that he did when we were healthy. The twist near the goal line with I think Matuska was embarrassing. Opened up the middle of the field big time when he didn't get to the inside. He has made zero adjustments to their scheme.

If we are going to be fair, Cam blew it....BIG TIME!. can't happen and it did and it cost us the game. no other way to say it. and don't crucify me by giving me past stats. Doesn't matter. We lost and we know why

Good grief...lighten up people. Really bad loss, but you suffer those from time to time. Kelly's playcalls have not changed. He is who he is. Today his riverboat gambling approach backfired.

BVG really needs to understand that when you play a team that lacks explosive players you don't blitz every down with young players who have no idea what they are doing. Why it took him til the middle of third quarter to figure it out...who the fuck knows?

This is a good team that just lacks the beef on DL and the mentality on the OL. We are a little worn down...and sadly the coaches are failing in preparing an effective gameplan and failing miserably in ingame adjustments.
