Wow. I was really sick once as a kid, and beat that game in one day playing it non-stop. Such an awesome game.

Did your illness happen to stop time for like two weeks???????... That game took forever.

Casts SLEEP. Gimme my armor!

Did your illness happen to stop time for like two weeks???????... That game took forever.

My favorite RPG of all time.

Well I suppose how old you were is relevant. It took me a long time my first go around in 1989 when I was 7 years old. And that was even with the assistance of the free world map (side one) and monster guide (side 2) poster that came with the game (I got it for free with my one-year subscription renewal to Nintendo Power since it wasn't selling well in the United States; changed my life!)

I can finish it MUCH faster now (few hours), the benefit of 25 years of gaming passed from that time and also playing it start to finish at least half a dozen times.

Plus, nowadays you can play it on an emulator and speed the game up, which helps with level grinding.

But ARE YOU a DRAGON WARRIOR? Answer questions (all original NES version):

1) Can you navigate the Swap Cave without any torches/radiate spell? And I mean North to South, vice-versa and to and from the Princess?

2) What guards the Princess (including color)?

3) Can you navigate to the exact square that hides The Fairy Flute?

4) How about navigating to the exact square on the world map that hides Eldrich's Token?

5) Do you know the exact square where Eldrich's Armor is hidden?

6) What protects it (including color)?

7) How many hit points does the Dark Lord have?

Dw_dlord1.gif

================
0-2 = Dragon Warrior? More like lowly slime.
2-4 = Nice run through, rook.
5-6 = Dragon Warrior, fo sho.
7 = Motherfucking Dark Lord up in this biatch.

I'm kind of curious who'll get 7 without cheating (honor system here guys and gals).

I cant believe you guys can remember all this shit. All I remember is the original Dragon Warrior wasn't too hard but some of the subsequent games were hard as hell. Then again I've never replayed the Dragon Warrior series (head hung in shame.)

Most games I would agree, but this was one of my favorites in my most formative years. You don't forget that shit. Don't you remember every detail about your favorite toy(s) growing up? For me it they were grey cartridges that I blew on when they didn't work. Dragon Warrior (game and series) were among my very favorites.

Any takers on the Dragon Warrior 7 question challenge (2 posts up)?

I got you, Nintendo was my thing too. I still know every bush to burn and every place to put a bomb in Zelda. I can still beat Mike Tyson pretty easily (0073735963). Jaws is but a goldfish to me. Maybe someday I'll revisit the DW series if I ever have the time. But for now how about another honor system question, who can beat the original Contra without the code for 30 guys? Seriously that seems impossible to me.

Is there a classic video game thread we should move this to?

I played the shit out of Civ II. Probably thousands of hours.

Today I can't stand Civ, but I'd go back and play Civ II any day.

the original NES Baseball game
Kung-Fu
Ghosts 'n' Goblins

Space Battle
Sea Battle
Baseball
Football
Golf (this game was very fun)
Advanced Dungeons and Dragons

My man... I played for 24 hours straight once. My wife went to work, came home, did whatever, went to bed, got up, and there I was still putting a beatdown on Napolean and Shaka Zulu. Awesome, awesome game.

Mods can we get a merge (these posts from today --> classic video game thread).

That said to answer your question: No. Not without someone helping in CO-OP. I was too young me thinks.

Up-Up-Down-Down-Left-Right-Left-Right-B-A-Select-Start (all about the CO-OP)

P.S. 1 million vBucks to the first person to score a 7 on the Dragon Warrior questionnaire.

Going retro~

FF IV on PC (it's basically the DS version, but on your PC, thus for me 42" TV).

Screenshot_2013-06-14-00-31-37.png

It's making me super nostalgic for the old Dragon Quest (Dragon Warrior in US) games.

DWIVTaloonweaponshop.png

My boy, Taloon the arms merchant.

I know everyone wants a remake of FF VII in a modern graphics engine (that would be so fucking sweet; 2017 is the 20th anniversary), but I was really hoping when Square and Enix merged that the Dragon Quest series would get some remake love as well.. not as in a Nintendo DS face-lift, an honest to God remake. I'd take Dragon Quest, but a Dragon Quest IV remake would rock my world (2nd favorite RPG of all time, to DUH if you know the genre) since the 2001 PS1 remake never made it out of Japan.

With the graphical capabilities of the current generation of consoles I don't see why a FF VII, Chrono Trigger or Dragon Warrior remake wouldn't make business sense. I bet they'd bring in a TON of money (especially in Japan), but that may be too much to ask for since it's all one company (Square-Enix) with finite resources.

I actually got FFIV for my android phone, works great.

I merged the two video game threads.

I have had all of the main consoles and have played regularly since forever. Right now I am playing Skylanders swap force with the kids. Its a great game except for having to buy the characters separately.
