What's all this talk about #8? Sheesh.

If we're 8, we're too high, if we're 5, we're probably too low. I expect us to be #6, maybe #7. But we should be #6.

I think it's more likely we're #5 than #8.

1) MSU
2) FSU
3) Bama
4) Oregon
5) Auburn
6) ND

I'm wondering if Archie Manning stepping down effects the SEC teams?

That clown should have never been on the committee to begin with. Had a son go there and was at like 3 Ole Miss games already this season.

Because real humans are better than real computers.
Yeah but real humans have real biases. Until I see this process play out I'm not sure I trust this committee to not just pick 2 SEC teams because "S-E-C."

I said it Saturday but I can see ND being anywhere from #4 - #7.

Today is the day. There is going to be a lot of butt hurt on the internet from many teams today.

I don't know much about Palm but he has an interesting take here relative to other media guys

But I don’t think it’s a great idea for the Committee to release polls weeks in advance. And neither does Jerry Palm of CBSSports.com.

“No. It is the dumbest thing they are doing,” said Palm. “Why? Because you run the risk of being locked into a poll mentality.”
Poll mentality, you say? What’s that? Palm gives an example.

“Top-five teams Notre Dame and Florida State played last week in Tallahassee,” said Palm. “Great game down to the wire. The higher-rated team, No. 2 FSU, wins. Poll mentality says that Notre Dame has to drop in the rankings. And, in fact, it did in the coaches (5th to 8th) and writers polls (5th to 7th). Not far, but they dropped for no other reason than they lost.”

According to Palm, that doesn’t jibe. “In fact, what that game did was validate Notre Dame’s ranking. I thought they were probably overrated going into that game. I wasn’t sure they were a top-five team until that game. That game validated their ranking. Is this committee smart enough to see that? Or will they drop them just because they lost?

“That’s what worries me about doing rankings in advance. If the Committee is smart enough to not get caught up in poll mentality, will they get criticized for it because people expect poll mentality.”
Interesting.
BTN-Poll Mentality?

I heard on Mike & Mike today that if the BCS were still in place it'd look like this:

Miss St, FSU, Bama, Auburn, Oregon, Ole Miss, ND, MSU, Georgia, KSU

Curious to see how close the committee is after tonight's show.

I think there's less than a 1% chance this happens but how crazy are we all gonna go if we come in at #4. IE will explode.

I am going with 7. i think we would have been 6 or better if we didn't have a bye week.

We need our vBookies to get on this. Surely there are odds out there.

This will likely be a push bet, but I'll bet 100 million that we're #5 instead of #8 to anyone who wants a piece.

Sitting in a waiting room this AM and heard the reporter for ESPN discussing the committee. The one thing she said that just jumped out at me is that the committee members will be specifically looking at the defensive side of the ball and whether a team's defense can be successful against multiple styles of offense. I thought that was really interesting and bodes well for ND. This is where our scheduling teams from different conferences will be a huge plus for us in the eyes of the committee.

I read this as well and it seems too subjective to me.

While this probably wont happen, at least this scenario has some internal logic rather than the voters just basing the ranking off of an uneven set of standards.

1 MsSU
2 FSU
3 AUB - only loss is to #1
4 ND - only loss is to #2

Edit: This is probably the easiest top 4 to defend that the committee can come up with.

Do not disagree with you about how that is a plus for us ... but c'mon! What kind of BS criteria is that? There are plenty of teams out there who are just offensive machines and that their game is outscoring opponents. If this is something that they will use to "judge" if teams are worthy, doesn't it eliminate teams like Baylor, Oregon, etc. from consideration. I do not like having a panel just making up the rules as they go along. I'm with whomever said earlier that they should just use the existing polls, pick the top 4 (or better 8) teams and put them in the playoffs. This subjectivity of a dozen people (who will certainly have their own built in bias) is garbage.

anyone else notice these curious new designations:
one is called "Strength of Record"? (SOR)
not "Strength of Schedule"...rather "Strength of Record". dafuq does that mean anyway? to me its coede for hiding the true cupcakes that litter other schools schedules.

and the other one is the "FPI"...Football Power Index....gee that cant be to help the poll rigged SEC teams can it?

i will say it agin we have to go undefeated to ever win a natty, have a chance to play for one. they will find a way even if we win out to keep us out of this final four. just cant shake this feeling, been around a long time. is the bcs computer still working im curious what its top 4 looks like. why cant they for shits and giggles have that plugged in to compare to the committee's choice?

All I'll say is that I'm very glad we're bringing ACC officials on the road for our remaining two PAC games, and I'm really curious to see what happens with the B1G officials for the Northwestern game if MSU and ND are neck-and-neck in the playoff committee poll at that time.

This ranking-a-week process is so dumb... it only exists so that ESPN can have a release show that people will watch much like they did with the BCS.
